Odin | Senior Design Engineer, Senior Platform Engineer — Edge Systems | Remote (US) | Full-time

Odin builds workforce visibility and compliance software for critical infrastructure. We’re deployed on 500+ active projects with 100K+ workers, securing more than $100B in construction value.

Senior Design Engineer — Own interfaces from UX and visual design through production React. You’ll establish our design language and design system, prototype interactions, and ship responsive, accessible frontend experiences. We need someone who genuinely designs and codes.

Senior Platform Engineer, Edge Systems — Build software connecting cameras, access-control readers, rugged devices, and local compute to our cloud across unreliable networks. Work includes protocols, real-time streams, buffering and synchronization, remote deployment, diagnosis, and recovery.

Out stack: TypeScript, Node.js, GraphQL, Postgres, Kubernetes, GCP, React, React Native.

Both roles are US-remote with periodic jobsite travel. US work authorization is required.

Odin | Senior Design Engineer, Senior Platform Engineer — Edge Systems | Remote (US) | Full-time

Odin is the workforce visibility and compliance platform for critical infrastructure. We protect the world’s largest construction projects, data centers, and critical assets—from groundbreaking through post-turnover—by unifying physical access control, workforce compliance, video monitoring, and drone surveillance in one command center. We’re already on 500+ active projects with 100K+ workers, securing over $100B in construction value.

We’re hiring two hands-on senior builders:

1. Senior Design Engineer: Research, design, and build the interfaces people use to run jobsites. You’ll establish Odin’s design language and production design system, create coded prototypes with mocked states, and implement responsive, accessible screens across desktop, tablet, and mobile. We’re looking for someone whose portfolio demonstrates customer research, strong product and interaction judgment, and substantial production frontend engineering.

2. Senior Platform Engineer — Edge Systems: Build the software connecting jobsites to Odin’s cloud. You’ll work with cameras, access-control readers, rugged devices, local compute, and constrained networks. You'll own device integrations, video and event ingestion, buffering, synchronization, remote deployment, diagnosis, and recovery. We’re looking for production experience with edge or distributed systems, intermittent connectivity, third-party hardware or protocols, and software operating beyond a conventional cloud environment.

Our stack includes TypeScript end to end, Node.js and GraphQL, React and CSS, React Native and Expo, Postgres, Kubernetes on GCP, and Datadog. Design Engineering uses Figma and Claude Design. Edge Systems integrates with technologies including CCURE 9000, Avigilon, HID, Zebra, Esper, and Iru.

Both roles require strong ownership, operational maturity, mentoring, and using AI to accelerate work without outsourcing judgment. These are individual-contributor roles and include periodic jobsite travel.

Odin | Lead Platform Engineer & Lead Software Engineer | Remote (US) | Full-time

Odin is the workforce visibility and compliance platform for critical infrastructure. We protect the world's largest construction projects, data centers, and critical assets, from groundbreak to post-turnover, unifying every layer of site security into a single command center: physical access control, workforce compliance, video monitoring, and drone surveillance. We're already on 500+ active projects with 100K+ workers on the platform, securing over $100B in construction value.

Our stack is TypeScript end to end, Node and GraphQL on the backend, React on web, React Native on mobile, Postgres and Kubernetes on GCP. We also integrate deeply with field hardware such as badge readers, kiosks, turnstiles, and cameras.

Lead Platform Engineer: end-to-end owner of the platform and hardware fleet everything runs on. Product teams are your customers. You own infra-as-code, CI/deploys/DX, monitoring, hardware fleet ops, and incident escalation.

Lead Software Engineer: technical owner of an autonomous 2-3 person product team, taking scoped projects from design through release. Not a people-management role.

Both: operational maturity, a habit of mentoring, and AI used to accelerate without outsourcing judgment. Jobsite-adjacent experience (construction tech, access control, IoT/hardware) is a bonus.

I’ve been motivated many times in my life to change my diet to improve my physical and financial wellness. I’ve always found making these changes to be difficult and time consuming. I started building https://freshbatch.io to make it easier for myself and others who feel my pain. We’re opening it up slowly to private beta users this month if you’re interested in seeing more.

I'm building a collaborative meal planning site for personalized nutrition. If you've ever tried to improve your wellness or fitness through nutrition, you likely found yourself preparing more meals yourself. It takes too much time to pull together recipes into a well balanced, tasty meal plan that helps you achieve your goals. Fresh Batch will fix this.

Two of my buddies and I have been hacking a solution together as our 5 - 8 through the pandemic. We're pushing hard to open up beta soon. You can request private beta access on the home page. Feedback much appreciated!

This is extremely helpful. Thank you for your insight.
Regarding the part that's unclear - my understanding is that investors prefer founders own common over preferred stock which is why I proposed our founder SAFEs convert to common while all others to preferred. From your experience it sounds like all SAFEs, including the founders, will convert to preferred.

Thanks for clarifying that ESOP is common stock. In the SAFE guide its unclear where this belongs. I admit I still owe the concept of options more time to digest.

Incorporated last month and want to make the first deposit ASAP. We plan to transfer 1K a month from our personal savings for the next year (or until its no longer needed) to cover basic operating expenses, like hosting. We both still have day jobs.
Great feedback. We were leaning equity over debt because many articles claim investors dont like seeing debt on the books. Had you considered a contingency plan if you couldn't pay yourself back or had to reduce debt? For example: call it a bad loan and each founder would write it off.

Ask HN: Paper capital contributions as YC SAFE that converts to common stock?

I am slowly ramping up on the options my co-founder and I have to make capital contributions to our bootstrapped C Corp. When we incorporated we each purchased 40% of the available common stock and set aside 10% for early staff leaving 10% available. My proposed strategy is to track all founder capital contributions as SAFEs that will convert to equity issued from the remaining 10% common stock...
