Ask HN: Funding my app myself

Hi everyone,I'm with a small team of people and have enough funds to fund about 1,000 hours of work to get the application built. That's nearly double the number of hours I believe we need. The product we will be building is a web app for businesses and I think will be popular (based on design feedback I've received from target market). We have free and paid plans. I'm predicting about $500,000...

The interviewer kept trying to get him to admit he was spreading himself thin. What gives?

This is exactly why we don't respond to RFPs any more.

Credit card transactions would be the every man's evidence of whereabouts.
Surrounding yourself with people who are smarter than you is easier if the person doing the hiring is dumb.
Re:Ask HN: Realizing Your Idea Isn't Original on Sunday November 16, 2008 @11:20AM (#366060)
We had the same problem. We had a 50% original idea, and our competitor was the rest of the idea that we knew could be better.

We used it as a basis for solving disagreements. Whenever we couldn't agree or decide what to do, we just say "what is our competitor doing?" It isn't about copying per se, it's about keeping momentum and getting past decision problems.

"so he picked one up a 19" CRT for 5€ on eBay."

Depending on what you do, a good monitor can actually help you earn money by making you either more efficient or enjoy your work more.

Great summary!
Re:Free links to your site on Tuesday October 14, 2008 @09:48PM (#332878)
Google should seriously invest a little bit of money and pay to have the site design for Matt Cutts look better. Add a custom design (not a template) and maybe say somewhere that he works for Google. I've sent some customers to that site, and they don't take it seriously.
Re:How to Record a Podcast with People in Multiple Locations on Saturday October 11, 2008 @12:19PM (#329774)
The Beef:

An interviewer [...] would be videotaped conducting an interview via a long-distance phone call to the interviewee in another part of the world. This interviewee [...] would be videotaped as he was being interviewed. This videotape would then be sent to the interviewer’s city and synchronized with the videotape of the interviewer [...] and the higher-quality sound of the videotapes would be used instead of the telephone audio.

Yeah, that would suck.
I'd agree.
