Re:GCP Europe-West2 Outage on Tuesday October 20, 2026 @04:27AM (#50162939)
GCP status page is green, it's only visible in the Service Health in GCP Console when you switch to any of your project https://console.cloud.google.com/servicehealth/incidents

Multiple Google Cloud services are experiencing elevated errors and intermittent network failures in europe-west2 region.

Re:Tell HN: CloudFront VPC Origins is down on Thursday July 16, 2026 @04:39AM (#48931866)
It looks it affects many services, e.g. I'm not able to re-auth many of the MCPs in claude code as all requests to WorkOS timeout with 504 Gateway Timeout, as it reports https://status.workos.com/ elevated error rates:

> Investigating - We are seeing elevated error rates across our platform. Our team is investigating. We will share an update as soon as possible.

Re:Why the $25,000 car is going extinct on Monday June 30, 2025 @04:18AM (#44420762)
This depends on the EU country, I've just checked official Skoda site for our country and I found brand new 157 Skoda Fabia models available for the same day pickup below 20k without any special financing (from these 85 below 18k, and 22 below 16k)
Surprised to see so much malware served from GitHub domains https://urlhaus.abuse.ch/browse.php?search=github

Re:Heat pumps, more than you wanted to know (2023) on Tuesday January 09, 2024 @07:47AM (#38925537)
Yes, I've experienced a few poeple drilling the additional drainage holes on the bottom of the outdoor unit, when they experienced similar problems not having a "nordic" unit. With the nordic unit I mean the features mentioned above - heated compressor and the heating condenser vane.

Though, if it's snow blowing directly inside then I think creating some barrier or add additional shielding of the outdoor unit is required,so that you minimize the chance of the snow DDoS-ing the unit (note: check your unit's service manual for the minimum free distances from all sides of the unit, especially the front one that is the most important to be kept enough free space).

I think Tutanota [0] is also worth mentioning with their transparent reports and warrant canary in place

Re:Ask HN: How can I calculate CO2 emission of servers/VPS? on Wednesday September 07, 2022 @09:11AM (#32750079)
In the most recent episode of the Last Week in AWS podcast Corey Quinn just talked about this topic https://www.lastweekinaws.com/blog/how-google-cloud-and-aws-...

For AWS, there is also Customer Carbon Footprint tool available https://aws.amazon.com/about-aws/whats-new/2022/03/aws-launc...

Re:Should notes be end-to-end encrypted? on Tuesday August 23, 2022 @06:16AM (#32562668)
My preference is to not need to care about what I'm pasting into my notes app. As I use the app on mobile, desktop OS and store not only organized content there, but also random thoughts, incl. sensitive content. That's I prefer to have it E2EE and use standardnotes.com (no affiliation, I'm just a happy customer)

Piktochart.com is working 4DWW plus national vacations - there are currently searching for a frontend dev https://piktochart.com/careers/#jobs .There are also other companies, like https://buffer.com/journey part of the people-first initiative https://peoplefirstjobs.com following the 4DWW.
OT: Spotify is apparently experiencing an outage in Europe [1] so I went to HN to check if it's not being discussed here. Found this thread but it seems it's not related, as here users are being forcefully logged out and unable to login again (hopefully not a hack) even in the latest Android app and up-to-date browsers.

Re:The new FreeDOS 1.3 is now available for download on Monday February 21, 2022 @07:26AM (#30415096)
I love FreeDOS still exists! I used it ocassionally in past to load a new BIOS.exe to update a Dell Latitude laptop not having any Windows OS installed.
Re:Rails 7 Released on Thursday December 16, 2021 @07:12AM (#29577401)
As you can read in the Rails 7 announcement, the webpacker is history already. Also, you don't even need to have the node present with ESM. So all this complex stuff you mention won't be soon required.
There is also battle-tested imaginary tool [1], offering similar functionality and much more, also using libvips

Re:Ask HN: Running production server on M1 mini? on Monday December 06, 2021 @09:08AM (#29459868)
How do you actually compare performance/bechmark the app - are you testing/benchmarking both prod and dev directly on the box itself? I'm thinking, there might be other infrastructure shielding the production like load balancers, proxies and other involved (observability/security tooling running and slowing the prod server) compared to accessing the dev on M1 directly..
One important decision argument against AWS SES is their policy to keep bounce rate below 5% (account put under review, if unresolevd until end of month, will be suspended, with hard limit of 10%) [1] compared to least strict Postmark's bounce rate of 10% [2].

Sometimes for SAAS products with a huge userbase or freemium pricing model is super difficult to keep the bounce rate so low for transactional emails.

Re:What software engineers should know about search (2017) on Monday October 18, 2021 @03:22AM (#28903050)
I think, it would benefit readers to mention more than the 2 mentioned groups of the search-related software - there is a lot of new generation tools and libraries like MeiliSearch, Typesense, Sonic, Toshi, Bleve, ...
Re:New Surface products, built for Windows 11 on Thursday September 23, 2021 @02:17AM (#28625702)
Is it only me whom every of the links in the blog post returns "We are sorry, the page you requested cannot be found. The URL may be misspelled or the page you're looking for is no longer available." ? Normally it doesn't surprise me that links on MS sites are broken but I would expect at least fresh blog posts have it right..
NiMH batteries are also offered in higher-end models like RAV4 AWDi, etc. Purchasing RAV4 in EU one doesn't even know at the time of purchase what battery type will arrive with the car, what I find kinda strange.

Both types of batteries have pros and cons - this YT channel of a Toyota mechanic provides pretty clear explanation of the differences https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AS3Lg3qJcnc

You might want to put a CDN/cache in front of the S3 bucket deeplor.s3.us-west-2.amazonaws.com you are serving some static assets from, otherwise the S3 network egress costs might go up rapidly.
Re:The war against money-laundering is being lost on Tuesday April 13, 2021 @04:10AM (#26789480)
> The answer is to solve the underlying problem. Do the opposite on the supply side; increase competition so much that nobody is making any money at all. Decriminalization. And then address the problem on the demand side through regulation and treatment programs etc. rather than prohibition.

Problem with this statement is it's not only about drugs. Yesterday it was heroine/cocaine, today the cartels are laundering avocados, tomorrow it can be whatever else high-demand product of the western world that is available in Americas. The mafia cartels will always find a new field to profit from.

I wonder, is increasing temperature of the M.2 NVMe disks affecting the measured performance? Or is P620 cooling system efficient enough to keep temp of the number of disks low?

Anyway, thanks for the inspirative post!

I understand your point. Though, being too rigorous, 33mail.com tagline is "Unlimited free disposable email addresses" so it somehow fits disposable-email-blocklist
> B) Most companies will mark you as a temp email address and block sign ups, effectively making it useless

This is valid point, I see both 33mail.com and users.idbloc.co are already on disposable blocklists (e.g. https://github.com/ivolo/disposable-email-domains/blob/maste...)

there is already experimental Firefox support for a while in puppeteer https://github.com/puppeteer/puppeteer/#q-which-firefox-vers...
