Do we have to beat Prince at a game of basketball first?

Needs to go back further - there were shutdowns 30 years ago
I grew up in a small town in New Jersey, about twenty miles west. From the highest point in our town, you could make out the outline of the WTC, far off in the distance.

In 2001, I lived in Chicago, and I took a trip to Italy in September of 2001. I remember flying into Newark airport early that month, and marveling (as I always did) about the New York skyline, including the Empire State Building and the WTC.

I returned eight days later, on the first day that flights resumed after 9/11, and I remember flying into Newark again, and there was still smoking climbing into the air around where the WTC once stood.

Joanna Stern at the Wall Street Journal presented a project earlier this year where she and a team of editors created a short film using AI tools - not exactly the same thing here but the results were very good. They had a bigger budget too.

You can see it here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=US2gO7UYEfY

In their case, they interspersed live actors with AI-generated imagery.

I just donated - the world is a better (and weirder) place with this store in it. If you live in the Chicagoland or Milwaukee area, you should check it out.

How is that not advertising?

I'm pretty sure many people on their internet would view themselves as "discontent creators"

Dreamweaver? Who remembers Drumbeat 2000?

"The problem is that truth is very hard to establish for those that don't want and don't understand logic"

Not every truth is revealed through logic.

Here's a good that advertising does: letting people know how your product or services address some pressing need.
Did the US Navy invent bell-bottom JEANS or bell-bottom pants? Were the version from the US Navy made of denim?
When I was studying literature a few decades ago, psychoanalysis still thrived within critical literary analysis.
How good are these predictions?
Agreed - I was very surprised to hear this. From Dividend.com:

"In the late 1960s, the volume of trading activity increased dramatically. With the drastic increase in volume, the NYSE had $4 billion in unprocessed transactions by 1968. To catch up, the exchange closed every Wednesday from June 12, 1968 to December 31, 1968. During this crisis, over 100 brokers failed due to the high volume of transaction that could not be processed."

Today, the NYSE processes trading volumes of 3-4 billion shares per day.

"...since only 21% of people will buy a car without carplay"

That statistic is complete bullshit.

I'm really sorry to hear that - cancer is terrible.
One thing that I found especially helpful when using CoPilot and ChatGPT is that I can get an answer very quickly and directly, instead of having to wade through a lot of blogs or articles on Stack Overflow.

We did the whole project as part of a class; it was one of the best classes I took in my CompSci program. It was excellent.
Re:The Final Speech from The Great Dictator on Sunday December 17, 2023 @11:42AM (#38674034)
Perhaps a better way to phrase this is "We think too much and care too little" - feelings, by themselves, are not some fountain of wisdom and insight. You can have feelings of revulsion or repulsion, feelings of disgust and anger.

Feelings are ephemeral and easily manipulated.

Re:The biggest root cause of crime is fatherlessness on Wednesday December 13, 2023 @01:43PM (#38632159)
If you believe the reason some children are fatherless is because a hedge fund manager owns a jet, you're reaching.

Depending on what you're buying, I think you can rely on third-party reviews like Consumer Reports in the United States - no one accused them of being bribed.
I visited the store in the Ogilvie Train Station when it first opened and, honestly, I felt like I was inside a vending machine, given how everything is stocked on the shelves.

Have you heard of the Great Resignation?

The title of this post is mis-leading, or at least incomplete. Read the article. It's about denying automatic citizenship upon marriage. It's not about barring or banning marriage.
