nice initiative ... something which reminds me of ghost !

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ghost

https://github.com/TryGhost/Ghost

Sure we do need help ... Most important help we need right now is to bring Food, Grocery Stores on our platform.

We are also looking to collaberate with cooperatives of vendors who can create a market. They will benefit from a zero commission and low cost app.

It is a nonprofit version of regular food delivery or grocery delivery ... app !
Sure ! ... we will be glad to hear from you ... You can contact us at our forum https://forum.nearbyshops.org/

Create a new thread we will reply to you !

yes that was the original intent ... we want the platform to be open and welcoming to everyone !
That a good point ... we will surely be providing a web app in future ...

We just are waiting for raising some funds !

Yes its pretty much like that only ... there are multiple local market each self-hosted has their own server ...

And they connect with Central API for user login purposes !

We are considering forming cooperative's of local vendors who will do all the management.

There will be multiple local market instance each managed by a separate cooperative.

There is no central management ... its a distributed platform !

We will be adding a PWA and IOS app. Its not so much difficult to build it ...

We just need some funds and Investment ! and copy the screens already in the android app.

In lot of developing countries android is dominant platform so we though we would start with android.

PWA and IOS app is in the pipeline ... it will be coming soon !
Thank you ... We need volunteers ... You can help us through the Journey !

https://forum.nearbyshops.org/

Nice Question ! ... Anyone can self-host their Local Market Instance ... and create a local market ... a local market is a collection of many shops ...

A customer can access all the local markets in his area from a single mobile app.

He can buy from any market ... and login using just one account !

Hello Everyone,

Thanks for showing such a great support ! Let us address some of your questions here !

You dont need to have any coding knowledge to use the platform. Anyone can install Local Market Instance and Setup their market. Its similar to Mastodon Project https://github.com/tootsuite/mastodon

All the local markets are accessible from your end-user app. So you dont need to publish any separate app.

We are anticipating that Vendor Cooperatives will help us manage the local markets.

When the project gains traction. We will be releasing the PWA and IOS app also. So dont worry about that at all !

Ask HN: Nonprofit food delivery will it work?

Greetings to everyone here at HN.I have been developing a food delivery and instacart like app ... which is open-source !This project received a very good response on Show HN ... and it even got to the front page of HN.Please Checkout : https://nearbyshops.orgMy question is that ... if i make this a nonprofit project ...Will people like it ... ?This project needs volunteers ... will i be able...

Yes they all want to be the platform ... this is a kind of issue that is common with proprietary commercial projects ...

And may be an area where Open-Source could be of any help !

yes ... i checked out ... i wonder why it took me so much time to find that out ! ...

It would be great if you could keep in touch and post some issues on the Project Repository where you can Guide upon how can we improve the Code ! And what is the best tech-stack we should be using on the Backend side !

Your idea is also a good one ... funding local NGOs is also an essential initiative ... Yes i agree ... local business needs a boost !

Well a PWA can be built for Nearby-Shops also ... it might be good to have !

I was also thinking of migrating the backend to GraphQL ... But then it doesnt have an option to store images and auth still requires another server ...

Hasura GraphQl seemed like a good option ... because they also used PostgreSQL ...

What are your thoughts about migrating to graphql ...

yes ... you are correct .. the code on the backend side ... and also for Admin-app - needs refactoring ... i was planning that ... its just the matter of when i find some time !

I wont recommend anyone to contribute (for backend and admin app) until the refactoring is done !

I had been searching for some good project - Example for backend code ... but i was not really able to find one for Java ... for building REST API !

It was quite a struggle to work ... due to lack of proper tutorials and lack of good example projects ... for backend ...

But anyway ... your suggestions are very useful ... using Spring Boot would definitely improve the project ...

And i will also study about the liquibase and logging ...

I was avoiding ORMs but JOOQ seems like a reasonable option !

It is quite useful when experienced developers like you take your time to review and suggest improvements ...

no ... it's not in use anywhere i believe ...
