I was in the market for a new car in 2021… and tested a whole bunch of EVs.

All my previous cars were VW's. But the abysmal software was _the_ reason I didn't go with VW (or any of the other brands) this time.

Skoda Enyaq was the best of the bunch, the UI was fairly intuitive but still slow and unresponsive.

VW Id4 was over the line bad, but the worst of them all, it still annoys me to this day, was Audi Q4. For a car with that price point, it was like the engineers made a sport of how bad they can make a UI.

A pop-up saying something about privacy every time you start the car. Very regularly a pop-up saying "no data connection, while you could see LTE in the background, and everything appeared to just function normally. And many, many more

The only usable part is the fact that you can use Android auto/carplay.

In the end I went with a Polestar, and honestly I am very pleased. Would recommend it to anyone.

Yes, however we are unanimously siked for framework.

The sleep then hibernate sounds promising. But is it something you need to configure yourself?

Can't wait for framework laptop to run Linux/Ubuntu stable (without battery drain issues)

Then I'll be switching all the developers in our company over to a new machine.

(Currently running XPS 13, but we are due an upgrade, especially on memory)

I have not read the article through, but as far as I can tell this is about US citizens.

Because of that I'm wondering why the cover photo is from Bruges, Belgium, more specifically:

https://www.google.com/maps/@51.2091441,3.2241047,3a,90y,334...

This really is brilliant in its simplicity.

Not having to maintain complex data structures to keep track of property dependencies as opposed to using light weight integer comparison to track changes. I can imagine @tracked being many times faster than @computed

In related news, water is wet.
You'd be surprised how PHP has evolved in the last couple of years. With frameworks like ReactPHP you can really code anything you want in PHP.

This is amazing
This is just a drop on a hot plate. The entire system is rotten, and it needs to go.

But by all means, everyone is stuck playing the blame game, the red ties point to the blue ties and the other way round.

In the mean time, nothing changes and regular people loose.

Fuck Republicans, fuck Democrats, fuck Libertarians, fuck them all. The whole system needs to start over.

The more I learn about the US healthcare system, the more i'm sad for everyone living there.

All these loads and loads of information you need to know to go to the doctor. How can regular people ever get the healthcare they need, and we're not even talking about the vulnerable, low income, low schooled.

This. Is. Ridiculous.

I'll take socialism over this nonsense any day of the week.

To put it in perspective, I broke my ankle 3 years ago, and in the end, I paid, from my own pocket, 45EUR. For 1 ER visit, x-rays, cast, a few follow-up consultations and renting crutches for a few weeks.

I think you miss the biggest point. This will have a significant impact on the wages of women. As suddenly women are not longer at a disadvantage when companies need to decide who to hire for a certain position.

We have been using Ember for the last 5 years, and have been continuously shipping new features and updates on a daily basis. Our different applications have been following every upgrade path, and because of that we have not required a rewrite of our codebase.

Ember has been a great choice for our business, and has given us the opportunity to punch well above our weight class.

Ember is a wonderful front-end framework and deserves a lot more credit than it is currently getting.

Great job Ember Team, keep it up, the community loves you!

I'm a longtime Gandi user. But I absolutely loathe the new web UI. To the point where i'm considering moving my 200+ domains somewhere else.

At the time I chose Gandi for the 2 factor auth, and because it was a European company, but in the meantime there is plenty of other registrars offering the same.

Ask HN: How to manage shared Email inboxes?

Next to our private company email addresses, we have 2 shared email inboxes (info@...) that are being worked on by multiple people at the same time. This is currently done in GSuite, simply by multiple people logging in at the same time. The volume of the emails in these inboxes are starting to get out of hand, and we are looking for a way of managing this differently. The conversation view in...

Sorry. Only just saw your question.

The touchscreen works out of the box, but I don't use it that often, the few times I've used it I noticed that if I have an issue it's mostly related to the program I'm using and the lack of proper touchscreen support for that particular program.

I had to switch to a new laptop last year after my old MBP first generation retina died.

I couldn't justify the price, the specs and the keyboard of a new MBP anymore and after much deliberation I chose a $1200 HP Spectre x360.

I do mostly web development work (Ember.js, PHP and Node), and after running Win10 for a few weeks and hating the performance (especially for Node). I installed Ubuntu Budgie, and have been smoothly running it ever since.

The latest Linux kernel provides me with excellent battery performance and for a machine a third of the price I must say I made the right choice.

went from AZERTY to QWERTY, and took me about 2 weeks to get entirely used to it
Trello (with Planaway) and Slack

We are looking into switching Slack to Hangouts Chat (why pay for 2 services when you can do it with 1). However we are getting mixed feedback from our test users… Anyone here with Hangouts Chat experiences?

Self hosted Ghost. Been running smoothly and I'm happy about it.

It's funny because it's true
I use gandi as well for all my domains (about 100). But ever since they switched to the new v5 platform. I've been getting very inconsistent problems. I had to migrate all the domains to the new platform, but every so often I find some domains that haven't been migrated. All on the same account with different handles, which makes it hard to find the ones that haven't been migrated
Apart from the "because he can". Is there any use for it today?
Start with what you know, don't spend months figuring out a certain database tech for example when MySQL/mariaDB is just as good for 99% of the use cases.

I know there's a lot of bias out there against PHP. But I would still use it over the alternatives, there's a large community. With excellent frameworks who do the heavy lifting for you. (Symfony, Laravel). Great support and tooling, a large recruiting base and easy to pick up.

I personally love using Drupal 8 (which is built with Symfony), it has an excellent database abstraction layer, you can easily swap MySQL out for Postgres for example. There's a lot of functionality built in, and very developer minded (compared to WP) with many extra 3rd party addons. It also has a proven track record with deployments from small SMB to large enterprise users. It can also easily be extended with any Symfony packages.

For front end, I swear by Ember.js it is a framework which makes a lot of important decisions for you. You don't loose time setting up your tooling, deployments, state management, ... A great community, many excellent add-ons. A proven track record (LinkedIn, Twitch, Apple Music, ...) And on top of that, it has been around for 6 years, and is still actively developed with regular releases, with a excellent deprecation support so you can easily upgrade to new versions.
