thanks yeah, that's kind of the plan for now.

Ask HN: How to meet technical mentor?

I work at a small startup with 4 other engineers and we all have a similar level of engineering experience. I read a lot to learn, but I often find myself having questions that don't only have one answer. I would love to ask a more experienced engineer but given our team size there are few. What's the best way to meet experienced engineers with whom I could start developing a mentor/mentee...

The internet is seen by many to be a vehicle of freedom of speech, and even a basic human right. The outcry on NN is likely an pushback on the principle that it sets a dangerous precedent of privatizing a public service.

nope.
Re:Ask HN: Do you feel bad conducting code reviews? on Monday October 23, 2017 @03:51PM (#15536383)
Yeah, and maybe that's part of the issue right now. There is only a tacit agreement on using public style guides

This is a great point. I don't know why we aren't running the linter via the CI

Ask HN: Do you feel bad conducting code reviews?

Lately I've been doing most of the code reviews on my team since I have the most experience with this part of the stack.I can't help but to feel bad when code comes back 2+ times, sometimes for logic, but mostly for stylistic deficiencies. How do I get myself to not feel bad, for what I imagine must be a frustrating process for the devs on my team?

Re:Ask HN: Is Vagrant dead or dated? Do people still use it? on Tuesday October 03, 2017 @04:25PM (#15395859)
As others have pointed out, use-cases for Vagrant still exist, but docker containers is a more popular VE for development. Docker very much still has stuff to work through (ex. docker storage) to believe there's going to be a hot new VE sooner rather than later.
Good to see Uber executing on its vision and getting some positive publicity along the way

Re:Ask HN: What are the other ‘Musk’ian problems? on Sunday April 30, 2017 @03:50PM (#14233476)
hydroponic/vertical agriculture, energy optimized shipping, limiting deadweight loss within the US labor force, waste (like trash) management, developing a public-facing interface for human genetics, meal substitution, sleep substitution

I've taken both Stanford's and Princetons Coursera courses, and powered through the MIT OCW, and I would say this evaluation is spot on.

If you have to pick only one go with the MIT OCW, and snag a copy of CLRS. I got mine from my local lib. and it gave me more than enough time to work through the problem sets from the mooc.

Re:How Eve unifies your entire programming stack on Monday November 21, 2016 @10:12PM (#13011336)
I feel like reconciling the divide between the client/server relationship is the next major opportunity for abstraction
very few devs I know take the time to read these: - https://docs.angularjs.org/api - https://facebook.github.io/react/docs/hello-world.html

Docs may be 20, 30, 40 pages long, and out of those only 10 of those may be applicable, but you really can't know until you read them all. Read the manual.

had one and returned it. They don't provide much value beyond real-time notifications & a fancy pedometer.
Re:Ask HN: Examples of java web-apps? on Monday October 24, 2016 @04:15PM (#12782441)
also, was going to ask if you actually knew an example of an app calling an external api and then I happily found a walkthrough on your blog :) http://javaeeeee.blogspot.com/
