Indeed! That’s their best trick.

Re:Trump Pardons Convicted Binance Founder on Friday October 24, 2025 @09:47AM (#45694598)
We are allowing this to happen. For so many years corrupt politicians have avoided any consequences so it grows and becomes new normal.

Market manipulation has been the norm for many years because nobody did anything to stop it.

Pardoning criminals is becoming the new normal. Next normal is going to be launching wars to distract public and is going to cost a lot of lives.

I live in Europe and drive a Tesla, so I occasionally chat with other Tesla owners. Many of them make a point of mentioning that they bought their car years ago and probably wouldn’t have made the same choice if they’d known about Musk’s activities in Europe. Some even seem worried about being judged.

I’m fairly certain that the overall decline in interest is mainly due to general economic uncertainty and the phasing out of EV incentives in various countries. But I’m trying to say that it’s clear that Musk’s reputation has taken a hit! ironically among some of the very demographic groups most likely to be Tesla customers.

Re:After 3 Years, I Failed. Here's All My Startup's Code on Wednesday December 18, 2024 @03:38AM (#42448965)
He is young. At that age, I tried multiple times and failed each time. I did manage to sell one and it earned me good money.

At that age you have plenty of time to pursue many things but you often lack the experience needed to succeed in the B2B market.

You definitely need support from someone with sufficient B2B experience, or you might have better luck focusing on something in the B2C space.

My only advice if he really wants to continue pursuing B2B is to find a partner who can sell the product. Selling is a full-time job on its own.

Re:VW is putting buttons back in cars on Tuesday December 19, 2023 @03:02PM (#38700744)
I love Tesla’s take on buttons. Not the latest one that they have on S and X and I think recent 3 design, but what they have in model Y and older model 3s.

Real buttons for window control, very easy to use and multi purpose knobs on steering wheels, very functional steering stalks, combined with great software, with great user interface, and good hardware to support it.

But for some reason German car makers that were inspired by it ended up with horrible haptic buttons everywhere.

They are and they do kill people and make them suffer! Just nobody will count civilian casualties.

I think they are terrible. Just look at how little inflation has affected society even in most resilient economies and rich countries. Angry and impatient people everywhere, shoplifting and all sort of theft and crime going up.

Sanctions are not designed to directly pressure elites and corrupt leaders. They probably benefit even more because everyone now relies on them to do any foreign business. Average investor can no longer do anything. Therefore, it gives more power to the sanctioned regime.

Sanctions are designed to inflict great suffering on ordinary people in the hope of toppling the government. That's what they do!

Re:An Open Source Mouse and Trackpad Utility for Mac on Saturday June 24, 2023 @05:46AM (#36457164)
Subjective or not, it definitely doesn't make sense to lock them together. If you change one, the other will also change. The fact that it doesn't allow me to have different settings for the mouse and trackpad doesn't make sense to me.
Re:Jamsocket: Back Ends for Realtime Apps on Thursday June 22, 2023 @05:23PM (#36439212)
The session thing looks really cool, but when do I need it? I can develop a simple real-time app using socket.io or a service like Pusher.

Why would I choose this instead? That isn't clear to me yet.

Re:Twitter is refusing to pay its Google Cloud bill on Sunday June 11, 2023 @10:52AM (#36281951)
I heard from someone in my network that this is becoming a trend.

His theory is that this may have something to do with higher interest rates. Customers delay large bills for as long as they can.

If you don't need to backup regularly, use offline storage and take multiple copies. That's what I do for everything I run at home. But I don't need daily backup. I backup every quarter.
No major military power will tolerate another military coalition on its border. Unfortunately, that is the way it works and it's very sad.

If the Russian and US positions were reversed in NATO, the US would attack Mexico the moment NATO decided to arm them.

How is this a surprise? Nothing can improve an army like war. Just compare the US military before and after the Afghanistan war. Each individual piece of equipment and every tactic went through several evolution.

This is why other countries send troops every time the US goes to war. They send them to practice and learn. Certainly, the United States did not need the help of Ukraine, Latvia, and Moldova in the Iraq war. They went there to learn.

The Middle East has been the largest playground for the world's armies.

Ask HN: Why ChatGPT can make Math errors?

I was working on a report to calculate the monthly CPM of a SASS product and decided to ask ChatGPT to do the calculation for me, just to get a feel for what it would be like to have AI-powered sheets in the near future.I decided to test ChatGPT. Instead of pasting a large amount of comma-separated values, I decided to first give ChatGPT a sample record. It replied back with the formula to...

Re:Iran's government moves to criminalize VPNs on Thursday October 20, 2022 @04:34AM (#33272138)
When I was reading about Internet censorship in Iran and what they have done in recent years, it made me think of WhatsApp.

They have blocked most of the popular messaging platforms including Telegram long time ago but for some reason they have not blocked WhatsApp.

Since the current round of protests in Iran started in mid-September, they also blocked WhatsApp, but only because they don't want people organizing, discussing and sharing in groups. Basically everything is blocked now and this new development is most likely a temporary thing until they can handle the protests.

But isn't the fact that they haven't blocked WhatsApp in these years suspicious? Maybe they have access to NSO's Pegasus spyware or something similar. I don't think NSO would sell it to Iran considering NSO is an Israeli company, but they could still do it by using a middleman and not letting NSO know who the real customer is. Or maybe they developed a similar tool themselves because they have the motivation and the money to buy the information even if they are not capable to find it themselves.

It looks very practical and I like the choices they made. But, I can't use it as a daily driver because it doesn't have vim mode.
Re:Russians hit the office and R&D center of Samsung in Kyiv on Tuesday October 11, 2022 @04:12PM (#33168639)
- Russia's intelligence can't compete with all the intelligence and counterintelligence that multiple more capable countries are providing to Ukraine. Not to mention that all those intelligence sources are not target-able by Russia obviously because they don't want to fight NATO directly. So Russia can't even exhaust those intelligence resources.

- Ukraine is a huge country and they are doing a good job defending their critical assets and don't forget they have best in class training and intelligence to help them just do that.

- Russia has destroyed many military targets during the conflicts. Obviously both sides lie about their casualties.

- Ukraine is backed by west and receives new supplies every day. Much more than publicized. The 12 HIMARS is not real. The actual figures are never shared, as it would be too foolish to give such information to the enemy.

If I am not mistaken, this happened to Iran a few years ago. Many websites do not include Iran in the drop down list of countries.

It definitely doesn't sound right.

Re:Why we moved from AWS RDS to Postgres in Kubernetes on Monday September 26, 2022 @05:01PM (#32988344)
What's the benefit of running Postgres in Kubernetes vs VMs (with replication obviously)?
Re:Address by the President of the Russian Federation on Thursday September 22, 2022 @05:21AM (#32936551)
People on both sides of this debate are exploited by the war propaganda that both sides push.

It doesn't matter which side you stand on today, if you think the solution to this problem is war instead of negotiation and peace, you are being abused by everything you read and hear.

Re:Ask HN: Why is Microsoft Teams still so bad? on Thursday September 22, 2022 @05:10AM (#32936477)
UX is garbage on Teams. Specially for chat compared to something like Slack. Video calls, I can live with it even though I prefer Zoom and Google Meet over Teams.

If a company uses Teams for anything more than video call, to me it's a sign that they don't care about productivity of their employees.

Re:Don't Pay UK on Wednesday September 07, 2022 @03:53AM (#32747795)
What a headache it causes in the world. I don't think anyone can measure the total cost of lost productivity in Europe, just people who read the news and worry. Sad.
