Typos on page 2: “At one interview, he had to hung up the phone because the journalist couldn’t understand the difficult topics involved … If he don’t get it, will he be sad about it?”

Regardless, awesome idea. I plan on reading it through.

iOS & Android App Design

I'm an app developer looking to supplement my meager income. I've been making apps since day one of the App Store and have always focused on the front-end design.

People gravitate towards icons and screenshots; why not have the best ones in the store?

Design doesn't stop at the visuals, though. I work with you to make a sensible hierarchy and layout, keeping your users happy and recommending you. I know backend code, so everything I design is possible.

Email me a link to your app; I'd happily give you some thoughts.

Mobile App Designer & Consultant

I'm a mobile app UX designer and consultant available for all platforms: iOS (iPhone & iPad), Android, & Windows Phone. If you want to start (or re-finish) an app, give me a call first.

I know the design guidelines just as well as the code underneath. Everything I create comes from someone who's gotten his hands dirty with development on multiple occasions.

Your screenshots don't have to be literal screenshots. At first glance, there doesn't seem to be anything special about your app. Its main feature is un-advertised!

I would suggest some sort of transitional photo. Show the sloppy drawing fading into the crisp flowchart. Maybe a little text on the image. "Draw flow charts in seconds!".

Re:World `countries` – database table for MySQL on Monday September 24, 2012 @03:24AM (#4563582)
Is there a single source for data like this? Lists countries, currencies, timezones, dictionary words.

A Wiki for massive amounts of data that is basically common knowledge.

I haven't tried it, but you should be able to set the cornerRadius of the layer (a CALayer) of the main window. That would apply it to all subviews.
> “They are complex entertainment spectacles that do not translate well online because they require context,” said Mr. Zenkel.

Because the LCD on my iMac has a different context than the one in my living room? Or is it because you can't sell enough ads against it?

Stupid or liar…

Re:The Gmail Zero project: commitment device for Inbox Zero on Wednesday June 13, 2012 @01:55PM (#4107331)
Sounds almost exactly me. I leave important emails in my inbox that I'm working with (and one or two from my parents). I have a max of about 10 at any time. Zero unread.

I would love to see these states represented:

- Unseen (sent but I haven't opened my inbox or cleared the notification)

- Unread (seen but not opened)

- Read

- Read & replied

Then I can delete and archive when I want.

Re:Apple's iOS is "deceptively fast" on Thursday May 31, 2012 @08:08AM (#4047571)
The poster is right, iOS takes a screenshot and uses it when switching to your app. The default.png is used only when you first open the app (ie, it was closed).

What happens when you switch orientations? The screenshot/app will show as rotated and rotate to whatever angle the device is currently at.

Coverflow was bought, too.
Re:How a CPU works on Thursday May 17, 2012 @08:48AM (#3986699)
One of my favorite classes in college was how to build a MIPS processor. How program counters, muxes, ALUs, branch predictors, and such worked blow my mind.

I wish I still had the notebook of my CPU drawing.

They have a very well hidden email upload feature.
It looks like they're still keeping the subtleties of each OS (eg the ICS action bar), just adding they're own styling, icons, branding, and flow on top.

Looks a lot better than apps that just port iOS apps to Android pixel-for-pixel.

Re:I have no idea what I'm doing on Monday April 23, 2012 @05:06PM (#3880977)
I don't think I've ever started a project that I knew how to do backward and front. Every thing I know about iOS programming comes from "oh crap, a client wants this, how do I do it?". Although, it makes every past project look worse and worse every time I start a new one.

Google it 'til you make it.

Re:How to Learn to Write iOS Apps on Sunday December 25, 2011 @11:22AM (#3391174)
Disagree. Some good libraries are C++, so linking to them requires you to use Obj-C++ (at very least, changing the name to *.mm).

They do use eNom as well, that's the one I chose when setting up my account.

It all tastes pretty bad at first, but Adagio has some interesting blends that might make it easy to ease into mate.

To make it easier, and what I did, is to cut out all liquid sugars. No soda, fruit juice, energy drinks, or anything sweeter than water. Took me a few weeks to lose 30 pounds when I drank nothing but water.

In Sweden.
"…once it’s available on devices"

Meaning: November. Basically, they won't hold it back like Honeycomb, this isn't a rush job.

SEEKING WORK

I'm actually a little busy right now, but I just started doing this full-time, so I'd like to get my name out there.

I'm an iOS dev looking to transition to UI design. Check out my portfolio/blog: http://www.stuartjmoore.com and on Forrst: http://forrst.com/people/stuartjmoore/posts

I'm in DC, and mostly work for people in CA, so I'm quite used to remote work.

Re:Amazon to Unveil the "Kindle Fire" on Monday September 26, 2011 @05:12PM (#3040758)
I'm not an Android dev (yet), but does it matter much outside of the UI? Honeycomb isn't open source, so 2.* is all they can use without talking to Google.

Seeing as how Ice Cream Sandwich is meant to better unify the APIs, I don't mind if they skip Honeycomb as long as they do get on track eventually.

I'm guessing the screen resulation will stay the same, just put on a larger screen.

But, this creates a smaller DPI and kind of ruins the retina display.

Ask HN: Calculate iOS App Rev per App?

I do plenty of iOS apps freelance. They pay me, I ship the app. Simple. But, I'm interested in working with some friends to create an app together. Or maybe create an app solely for them, but post it to my store page.My question, is there an app or site I can use to calculate the revenue of each app individually each month?iTunes Connect only gives me store rev, not per app. And calculating each...
