Evidence suggests LLMs have internal models as well.
Sure, there are potential risks to anthropomorphizing language. There's also potential benefits, in terms of allowing us to talk about an emerging alien intelligence.
FWIIW, I don't think I was anthropomorphizing. Stretching an analogy, yes. Optimization pressure is producing something with at least characteristics of intelligence. Obviously in a very different way than evolution produced the human brain, but the similarities are there.
Yes, thank-you for informing me I was using an analogy.
We are all stochastic parrots. Currently, millions of years of evolutionary pressure have produced a better algorithm than a few years of optimization pressure but we’ll see how long that remains true!

I think it's more that software is verifiable and RLVR can optimize in the correct direction. Harder to do with prose.
I would guess there is probably a capability ceiling beyond which China will not open source their weights. Maybe there is a scenario where they do so or threaten to do so if the US is so far ahead or something as a deterrent.
>But do we need all this now?
Did people want to make profits from the nuclear arms race? I'm sure some did, but it was not really a requirement.
The bottom line is there is a theoretical capability of AI which is effectively a super weapon that can be deployed against your competitor. If you think that is a possibility, even with a low probability, you should probably have a giant AI-related build if you are the US or China.
None of this actually matters if this is a nuclear weapons-style arms race.
The data center build out will become a matter of national security, and will be backstopped by governments.
Probably because carriers don't want a bunch of poorly secured devices on their networks.
Arch is fine, just don't use the AUR unless you are prepared to validate the PKGBUILD.
Personally, I only use AUR packages that just wrap binaries from well known sources, the only thing that should change in the diff is the sha256 and the version string which makes re-validating them after an update only take a few seconds.
If we're going to do analysis on no information, I would guess you have a lot more "inner turmoil" than the subject.
I think you mean "They're not deterministic, like a meat grinder"
Basically 100% of my interaction with AI is some form of question.
But there are people that treat it like a therapist or a friend.
In my opinion, the 2nd group should be discouraged from using these agents in this way, as it cannot be healthy. But if places like Reddit etc. turn into bot towns where do the AI companies get insight into the general population? Through the eyes of their most mentally unstable users?
So I don't really see things changing, and they'll probably get worse.
It really is not hard to install a Linux operating system manually. "Linux power users" should easily be able to handle bespoke installations.
paru presents all pkgbuild diffs to you before installing, that's what I use to read them.
I usually only use AUR to install trusted pre-compiled binary packages, the scripts are very simple and the only thing that should ever change is the url and the sha256
Disarmament failed though? Global zero initiatives for nuclear weapons stalled out exactly because the risk of someone else cheating is too great. If everyone gets rid of their nuclear weapons and then someone cheats and creates them in secret they can use their nuclear weapons to prevent anyone else from catching up.
They were all new-ish builds at the time, built a couple years before I was born.
I grew up in a suburb like yours. I'm raising my kids in a suburb that's by and large the same.
The biggest difference, imo, is the number of families.
I lived on a small street with a cul-de-sac. Maybe 35 houses or so. At least half had kids aged 0-15.
I now live on a street about the same size with my kids. There is one house with ~7-10 year olds, two houses with 3-5, one house with a couple of teens, one house with a baby.
Nothing else really matters, you can't expect kid communities to self generate at these densities.
Use the desktop or web vault directly, don't use the browser plugin.
Because the problem space is basically infinite. If a person is working on a problem, its probably interesting to at least one person. Randomly walking through the problem space might be interesting, but I don't know how the signal will fare against other humans.
Product of homeschooling no doubt. Technically correct, but missing the forest for the trees re: colloquial usage.
That's a good argument to keep recovery tools in userland rather than bend the kernel around them.
Why do they need to be in the kernel anyways? Presumably they are running on an unmounted device?
I don’t really see how it’s different than how you’d setup someone really junior to have a playground of sorts.
It’s not exactly a groundbreaking line of reasoning that leads one to the conclusion of “I shouldn’t let this non-deterministic system access production servers.”
Now, setting up an LLM so that they can iterate without a human in the loop is a learned skill, but not a huge one.
The situation you’re outlining is trivial though.
Yea, there’s some grunt work involved but in terms of learned ability all of that is obvious to someone who knew only a little bit about LLMs.
Is there a reason all workspace accounts need a project ID? We pay for gemini pro for our workspace accounts but we don't use GCP or have a project ID otherwise.
I mean, the bible is a man made pile of crap too...
The vast majority of them volunteered. And that's just conscription -- every country would do the same in such a situation. The US pursued and prosecuted thousands of cases of draft dodging in WW2, forcing most of them to go and fight.
At least post the rest of the relevant text:
>the President may grant a 1-time extension of not more than 90 days with respect to the date on which this subsection would otherwise apply to such application pursuant to paragraph (2), if the President certifies to Congress that--
(A) a path to executing a qualified divestiture has been identified with respect to such application;
>(B) evidence of significant progress toward executing such qualified divestiture has been produced with respect to such application; and
>(C) there are in place the relevant binding legal agreements to enable execution of such qualified divestiture during the period of such extension.
It seems highly unlikely any of those criteria are being. Trump is not even suggesting it, never mind providing receipts.
