Re:Ask HN: What router do you use at home? on Tuesday November 03, 2026 @09:48AM (#50352684)
Fritzbox. high quality in soft and hardware and pretty good support.
Judging from the text and the images i would guess its from 1890 to 1910. probably in the latter half.

If we look at fascists taking power in south america, then the us is an better suspect, since they already did this before.
Re:Attention people who think UB is fine on Sunday October 25, 2026 @12:28AM (#50228328)
im not an c++ expert, but it looks like the unreachable macro of rust. In rust it allows optimizing the generated binary to not care about special paths. If an integer can only be 1-4, then it doesn't make sense to dedicate an code path for 0 or 5+ that will never be called. in an explicit for loop its easy to know for the compiler, but when this information crosses boundaries like function calls then it can make it easier and can reduce the binary size.
Re:Ask HN: Linux at work revoked due to MDM, how to fight? on Saturday October 24, 2026 @08:28AM (#50220630)
If you are promised something, then get a paper trail. My company wanted me to support windows. I rejected every new contract where windows support is included. in the worstcase the manager can lie before the court without consequences.
Me too from europe. must be an php website
Not suprising. In my home country the hr departments do the same
The socialism part was fake. The named it so because socialism was popular and the promises are hard to distinguish from some right wing parties. In the past jews were the main enemy, now its muslims.
There is a second magnet which features all the 100k file as individual files. The packed archive is only for more efficient torrents

Re:Why does checking for software updates often take so long? on Tuesday October 13, 2026 @01:08AM (#50067003)
You seem to be using windows, so i can only make guesses: Windows makes quite a few requests plus the system seems to be dynamic, meaning that clicking on the check for updates button may yield in an completly different list dendent only on microsofts whims. ms office has probably different calls to make and since windows also provides drivers via the infrastructure it could also check the drivers.

Internal. is also an valid option. I moved everything there about a year ago
Unless the option that treats uninitialized variables as errors is active. This is important for scripts.
Re:Rust clean-room replacements for Photoshop on Monday October 05, 2026 @01:08AM (#49960899)
How can it be guranteed that the statstical model commonly known as ai was not trained on leaked photoshop code? If that has happened then it wouldn't be a clean room implementation.

Please fix your capslock or your shift key. I mostly used it over the containers extension with some containers for specific countries.

Re:Flock cameras used to arrest a child for playing on a swing on Sunday September 13, 2026 @04:22PM (#49688286)
Is it weird for me that i think this helps pedophiles so much in finding victims?

We know that the leader flock is having security problems where literally anyone could access the livestreams, the others are probably not better.

My worst fear would be that pedophiles would use the streams to find and abduct victims in broad daylight by posing as cops.

Re:Ask HN: C or C++? on Sunday September 13, 2026 @02:09AM (#49680542)
It depends
It looks it only tracks the upstream support of postgres. I dont know a company that uses that. Most use an downstream version that comes with extra support for versions that are upstream EOL.
Afrika has a lot of landmass around the equator, while the others are at the edges where in the mercator anything is stretched out. Europe and north america appear bigger than they are.
the pull out then was an reaction to the black friday.
How is that news? Changing the fuel is already the low hanging fruit. On the higher hanging fruit work is already being done, but it still takes years for that.
The entire place is yours: as everyone knows this is wrong. Larry lives there and lets the prime ministers stay there.

Re:Linux has an INFINITE file [video] on Tuesday September 01, 2026 @09:53AM (#49522054)
Only /dev/urandom. Nothing new. Could be replaced by dev/random, since the kernel has only one random source anymore.
i would contact the local entity that is responsible for cybersecurity, like the bsi in germany or as an second option an ngo that cares about security. The later can also publish it themself or helping to publish it without legal problems
Re:Peekl: An Alternative to Puppet and Ansible on Monday August 31, 2026 @04:53AM (#49507243)
From the looks of it it only tries to replace puppet. ansible has the strength that it doesn't need to run on the remote server or uses apis that have nothing to do with the remote host itself or has no access to. My aap sits in an completly different network and has access to an vault cluster that the remote hosts have not.
