Re:The Raspberry Pi Interactive Timeline · 2006–2026 on Friday September 04, 2026 @05:52AM (#49562477)
The Pi makes no sense anymore at these prices. But I love that I got to experience them when they were affordable. I owned multiple 4bs at one point, and even have a 2b and 3b lying around. I have a clusterhat that I tried to setup again, but realized that the Pi0Ws have only 512mb RAM each and that's useless now.
I was approached by people trying to get me into a pyramid scheme at least thrice in my life.

One was a friend who got into it in high school and said I could get in on it too for 100 USD (~2004). Another was a random stranger I struck up a conversation with at a bookstore in around 2011. The last was an old boss, who attributes his drastic weight loss to a strange drug that he's peddling and says I can get in on.

It's crazy. I was 17, 24 and 37 and all 3 times I knew there was something super suspicious about these and never engaged.

Conflated numbers. Show me counts of returning users and session lengths.
Re:I'm switching my phone from Android to Linux on Wednesday August 05, 2026 @11:39PM (#49192150)
I just got an iPhone as a secondary phone and hate the keyboard so much. How are people putting up with this BS?

The best damned ebook reader you'll ever use. Ready anywhere, ask anything.

We have been building https://merrilin.ai for 6 months now. Open to public access right now.

Re:Renting vs. Buying – A case study for Bangalore on Friday June 19, 2026 @04:29AM (#48596244)
The biggest problem with this and I say this being someone who is adamant about renting and not paying 3C for a house in Bangalore is that people around you will constantly be emotional. No one will be convinced by numbers if they've made up their mind to buy a house. People still think buying a house is an investment or they think it's security. They don't realize it'sore anxiety inducing to pay a loan. I gave up trying to convince anyone else and just keep my suggestion to myself now. I'm only going to buy a house in a tier 2 city one day. Or a village. I don't want to live in Bangalore if I can get the privilege to move out.
Re:Your ePub Is Fine. Kobo Disagrees. Blame Adobe on Monday June 15, 2026 @10:49AM (#48542134)
You're in luck. I built this especially to target series and you can ask questions across books whether they're in a series or not. I wanted to be able to ask questions of books that aren't even related to each other together.

Royal Road looks cool. Do you know if you can extract them into an epub? I have a user who extensively reads Web Novels and I wrote a blog post about that just today. He converts them to epubs AFAIK and uses them.

Re:Write for One Person on Monday June 15, 2026 @05:44AM (#48538919)
I've always written my blog for myself. I keep it as a record of what I'm working on, I suppose, or what I'm interested in. I was mildly surprise to find I had 279 blog posts on https://tech.stonecharioteer.com. I only ever write for myself. Whenever I try to write for an audience, I am not satisfied.
Re:Ask HN: How do you handle browser tab overload? on Monday June 15, 2026 @05:42AM (#48538907)
Do you mean overload to your senses? I always close most of my tabs. My policy is that if you don't bookmark, you don't care enough. Same goes for my local data. If I don't remember what's on my disk, or haven't backed it up periodically, I don't care about what's on it.

If you mean about RAM usage: https://chromewebstore.google.com/detail/tab-suspender/fiabc... is a good extension.

Re:Saving Money on Inference on Monday June 15, 2026 @05:40AM (#48538888)
Thanks for reading it. At this point we are trying to balance technical vs showcase blog posts. Revealing too much for a product makes it easy for someone to reengineer with one prompt these days.

That's a good point, but our harness right now is very fine tuned towards kimi2.6, it's something we want to improve but it's just 2 broke dudes working on it right now.
Re:Your ePub Is Fine. Kobo Disagrees. Blame Adobe on Monday June 15, 2026 @12:16AM (#48536526)
As someone who loves FoxIt reader, I'm building https://merrilin.ai to be the best damned ebook reader out there, to support PDF and epub. FoxIt's annotation system is one of the best I've experienced and I want to design one that is just as good if not better.
Re:Your ePub Is Fine. Kobo Disagrees. Blame Adobe on Monday June 15, 2026 @12:12AM (#48536500)
Yay! Registrations to https://merrilin.ai are open and you can enjoy a free account for as long as I can afford to give it (I have no funding lol). The android app is ready for closed testing too, if you have an Android device, mail me at mail [at] stonecharioteer.com and I'll add you to the beta testing. ios is still a pain.

Could we talk and exchange notes? I have a calendar link on my profile. Or I'd be glad to book something on your calendar if you could share.

Hello, I'm building https://merrilin.ai, could I pick your brain about the problems you faced?
Re:Ask HN: What Are You Working On? on Saturday June 13, 2026 @05:21AM (#48515219)
https://merrilin.ai, the best damned reading app for every platform with an AI chat that's spoiler safe by design. BYOB - bring your own books.
Re:Book Dedications on Thursday June 04, 2026 @12:07PM (#48400658)
I think my favourite are from the Otherworld books by Tadd Williams. He dedicated it to his dad who doesn't read and never told him about it. The gag goes on to all the books into the series.
Background for this. India is undergoing a heatwave. It's 47 degrees C in some regions. And the government is busy allowing billionaires to mine the country, kill the forests and build a personal zoo no one else has access to.

Deep knowledge and patience will always be rewarded. Most people give up quickly.
This title makes me feel he cheered, not that he was cheered at.
