Ask HN: Best way to digitize old family photos and slides at home

Hi HN,With the growing number of wildfires in California, I've been thinking about the best ways to digitize old family photos and slides. I imagine there are a number of services that you could send boxes of photos, but since I'm at home anyway, I figure this may be a good project to tackle.I'm curious if you have recommendations for the best ways to do this. In particular:- What is the best...

Great idea especially with a lot of people staying home in light of COVID-19. I've been considering ways to stay connected with friends and family now that I'm spending more time alone.

I've been considering doing regular Google Hangouts with open invites to make hanging out feel more spontaneous.

So far this has been an interesting experiment for me. I've found that it's helped me do a better job of reflecting on small mistakes that ordinarily I wouldn't have given as much thought to.

I'm curious about other habits people have developed to get better at what they do.

I found this post super helpful. For anyone doing rails development, I wrote a gem to make this really simple. I'd love feedback.

I've been doing my best to teach non-technical friends how to start scripting. This'll be a great resource. Thanks for sharing.
True. For me, that makes the learning go by faster. Starting from scratch when I know nothing takes more mental energy. Using this game, it was easier for me to get more reps, meaning I learned names and faces quicker.
I made this to help with onboarding. It's hard when you're new and don't know anyone and they all know your name.

This is thorough and well done.

I'm curious why/how Instacart uses both python and ruby for their logistics. Seems like they could just use one.

Interesting. How is this better than just sharing the Dockerfile directly? Or just having a free instance hosted on Heroku? It's not too hard to load a container. As an example https://github.com/discourse/discourse_docker makes it pretty straight forward to host discourse.
