Hey folks,

I’ve been preparing the dataset for my congressional database and one particular politician was standing out the most.

Rep. Rob Bresnahan’s (R-PA) recent stock activity is surpassing the +150 trades mark. That’s a lot of button-pushing for any investor, let alone someone in Congress.

A few things jumped out at me:

Trade Frenzy: Over 150 individual trades in just 31 days—that’s almost five trades a day, on average.

All Over the Map: He’s not sticking to one corner of the market. Huge tech names (NVIDIA, Alphabet, Texas Instruments), pharma heavyweights (Pfizer, Eli Lilly), even energy players (ConocoPhillips, Occidental Petroleum).

Mid-Sized Bets: Most of his buys and sells land in the $1K–$15K zone, but there are definitely some chunkier moves in the $15K–$50K range.

Buy & Sell Balance: It’s not just one-way traffic—he’s selling almost as much as he’s buying. Sounds like active day trader instead of a “buy-and-forget” play.

When lawmakers trade this much, it puts the spotlight on possible conflicts of interest. Are they making policy while secretly banking on the very industries they regulate? Current rules are supposed to keep things aboveboard, but clearly there’s room for debate on tightening up those ethics guidelines.

Hi everyone

US Congress Portfolio and Top Wallstreet Analyst Ratings updated in realtime

Financial History Access for all companies for the last +30 years.
Why Stocknear Matters

Transparent & Open‑Source: Inspect, audit, or even contribute to the code.

Re: on Monday April 14, 2025 @06:57PM (#43687210)
Hey everyone,

I wanted to share a quick analysis that highlights what I see as the problematic nature of congressional stock trading. No elected official who represents the people should be trading public stocks—especially when they have privileged access to both international and domestic political information that can impact markets.

A prime example is Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene. Recent filings indicate that she has been buying stocks when prices dipped, seemingly to benefit her personal portfolio. Meanwhile, average citizens are feeling the impact of trade tensions, particularly with China. One striking detail: on April 4th—coinciding 5 days later with a major political announcement. On April 9th President Trump announced a 90-day tariff pause, which skyrocket the market.

Here’s a list of some of the companies she invested in:

JPMorgan Chase & Co. (JPM): A global financial services company that operates through Consumer & Community Banking, Corporate & Investment Bank, Commercial Banking, and Asset & Wealth Management.

FedEx Corporation (FDX): Provides transportation, e-commerce, and business services both domestically and internationally.

Norfolk Southern Corporation (NSC): Engages in rail transportation for raw materials, intermediate products, and finished goods in the United States.

Caterpillar Inc. (CAT): Manufactures and sells construction and mining equipment, along with engines and industrial turbines worldwide.

Dell Technologies Inc. (DELL): Designs, develops, manufactures, and sells IT solutions, products, and services globally.

Impinj Inc. (PI): Operates a cloud connectivity platform that connects individual items and gathers data for businesses across several continents.

Amazon (AMZN): Engages in retail sales and subscriptions, operating both online and in physical locations worldwide.

QUALCOMM (QCOM): Develops and commercializes foundational wireless technology used across the globe.

Lam Research Corporation (LRCX): Designs, manufactures, and services semiconductor processing equipment used for integrated circuits.

RH (RH): Operates as a retailer for home furnishings, offering a wide range of products including furniture, textiles, and decor.

United Parcel Service Inc. (UPS): Provides delivery, transportation, and logistics services.

Nike (NKE): Designs, develops, and sells athletic footwear, apparel, and accessories for men, women, and children on a global scale.

Lululemon Athletica Inc. (LULU): Designs and retails athletic apparel and accessories.

Old Dominion Freight Line Inc. (ODFL): Operates as a less-than-truckload (LTL) motor carrier in North America.
The pattern is clear: these companies suffered significantly from tariffs, which led to increased market uncertainty and volatility. From manufacturers to freight carriers, the entire supply chain—from China to the U.S.—was affected. It appears that Rep. Greene capitalized on these market dips on April 4th, 5 days later when President Trump announced a 90-day tariff pause, seemingly urging his insider circle to buy stocks, asserting, “this is a good time to buy.”

In short, her actions and similar ones from other politicians, raise serious ethical questions about profiting from market shifts influenced by political decisions.

Sorry, I'm trying to create/reproduce machine learning models from articles in order to predict trends and price changes.

I'm attempting to be as transparent as possible by providing model metrics and open-sourcing the code.

My purpose is to provide a range of models for the general public who lack the necessary access or technical knowledge to develop it themselves.

thanks for the tip
Re:Show HN: Open Source AI Stock Analysis Platform on Thursday May 30, 2024 @10:18AM (#40524044)
Hey guys,

Over the past year I've been working on my pet-project stocknear to help small investors to beat the hedgies with high-quality data + machine learning algorithm that mostly are based on certain papers to predict trends, price movement, sentiment analysis etc.

From today onwards the project is 100% Open-Source = Frontend+Backend.

The frontend is based on Sveltekit and Tailwindcss. The backend is a combination of FastAPI, Fastify and Pocketbase.

The reason why I wanted to open-source the project is to fight enshitification and also this field is filled with scammers and get-rich schemes. I wanted to become one of the few people who actually help users in the stock market without ads, tracking each movement or anything shady. An AI Stock Analysis Platform by the users, for the users.

Not much at the current stage. In range of 50-500 QPS.

However, my main goal for Marmot was to decrease the latency of my website by putting the db as close as I can to the end user

I'm using Marmot for my own website on production. Up to this date there were no problems.

If I had any technical issues (i.e. questions, optimizations etc) I always asked the developer maxpert and he gave me in-depth answers that helped me personally a lot.

In my case I have much love for Marmot and hopefully it grows and helps a bigger community

First of all,

Thank you guys for the support, feature request and the bunch of bugs report that I received to make the website better.

Lots of you guys mentioned they don't like the concept of sign-up to the website when the information should be free.

I removed all barriers and you can now enjoy the website without signing up whatsoever.

The only reason to sign-up is to add stocks in your watchlist, participate in the portfolio tournament, share your memes, write a comment.

If there is anything else how to improve the website I would highly appreciate it :)

Re:Created a free website that simplifies stock analysis on Monday December 11, 2023 @04:46AM (#38599079)
Thanks for the feedback. I feel you. I will try to remove it in the near future. The login is more of a security layer against bots scraping the website easily.

I will think about other free security layers to remove the login feature :)

Not exactly sure what you mean by "(I am not connected to the developer)"

< I (anyway) use single-use accounts for such services.. doesn't anyone? I have not problem if you create a fake account. As long as chinese/russian/iranian bots don't attack me I'm good :D

Re:Created a free website that simplifies stock analysis on Monday December 11, 2023 @04:39AM (#38599038)
We have memes :D
Re:Created a free website that simplifies stock analysis on Sunday December 10, 2023 @07:52PM (#38596535)
My goal was never an aggressive growth strategy. I am sure I never mentioned this once on my website.

Rather I encourage my users to do due diligence for each of their stocks. And in this journey my website stocknear comes into the play where I provide high accuracy, free information to the public

Re:Created a free website that simplifies stock analysis on Sunday December 10, 2023 @07:49PM (#38596520)
Yes but the free plan is quite useless.

You can only analyze 5 stocks. That's it!

Re:Created a free website that simplifies stock analysis on Sunday December 10, 2023 @03:47PM (#38594896)
No,

I train each stock on a separated model to not interfere and make the dataset "dirty".

Each stock has its own dynamics thats why i split each model

Re:Created a free website that simplifies stock analysis on Sunday December 10, 2023 @03:31PM (#38594740)
I strongly agree with you.

I too believe that most AI results are false and only works in a optimal environment such as the stock is always liquid and the bid-ask spread is close to none.

Nevertheless, I give my best to make this signals as reliable as possible. I strongly encourage everyone to make their homework.

I provide all the most important fundamental data for each stock, e.g. income, balance-sheet, cash-flow. See here for more https://stocknear.com/stocks/ADBE/stats

Re:Created a free website that simplifies stock analysis on Sunday December 10, 2023 @03:00PM (#38594474)
Sure!

I will add "Advanced Charts" in the near future where you will get a much more sophisticated chart analysis tool for free :)

Re:Created a free website that simplifies stock analysis on Sunday December 10, 2023 @02:59PM (#38594456)
Glad you liked it.

Im happy someone from the DeepL community from cologne liked the website.

I would be happy to hear your feedback.

Thank you, that means a lot to me
Re:Created a free website that simplifies stock analysis on Sunday December 10, 2023 @12:35PM (#38593218)
Thanks,

ETF,Market Index and cryptos will be added soon. So stay tuned :)

Re:Created a free website that simplifies stock analysis on Sunday December 10, 2023 @12:35PM (#38593212)
True,

I forgot about the splits. But i still believe building a first version where the split is included is a good start for this feature.

Later on we can add more advance features where we can turn on/off the split

Re:Created a free website that simplifies stock analysis on Sunday December 10, 2023 @12:17PM (#38593082)
Yep this is one of the biggest bottlenecks for this solo project.

I get my data from Financialmodelingprep which I do not recommend because of the recent price increase.

But i gotta pay those bills to make a really good website for my users
