Still 24 inch screen in 2026. You can get a 27 inch panel for far less than a stick of ram these days. Why not give us a decent sized screen!
Re:Wanted to download an ISO, ended up writing a kernel exploit on Thursday October 15, 2026 @07:06AM (#50102007)
I’m running Flint 3 and an Aqara doorbell and have noticed intermittent doorbell offline messages. I just assumed it was flaky wifi or 2.4ghz congestion. If you do track down a bug or a solution please share it!
Re:iPhone Duo on Wednesday September 09, 2026 @05:56PM (#49635006)
Kinda of. But the mini was released at a terrible time to get accurate data. The iPhone SE had launched 6 months earlier and had been lauded as the phone to get if you wanted a small iPhone. People who bought the SE were not ready to upgrade straight away to the mini. I suspect if the mini launched today it would see (a little) more success.
Is that any different to how African Americans feel about the police? Or how Latinos feel about ICE today?
The issue isn’t the Labour Party it’s the entire country. Brexit has been a disaster, energy costs are through the roof, housing is becoming more costly, and there’s been no real economic growth in a decade.

But no one wants suffer the temporary pain to make the reforms needed to change it. They just want to grumble and say the current leader isn’t any good before moving onto the next one, rather than admitting they might need to actually accept some change in the country.

It’s a bizarre take.

It’s not functionally useless, it supports a mouse, keyboard, printer or even an iPhone (non pro) perfectly fine at full speed. It also probably has enough speed for the average cheap terrible quality USB drive that the buyer of a $600 PC might have.

This is a Silicon Valley tech geek take not a real world one.

Re:Pentagon Formally Labels Anthropic Supply-Chain Risk on Thursday March 05, 2026 @03:59PM (#47267198)
There’s plenty of markets outside the pentagon to sell to.

Far more likely is they spin up a defence focused subsidiary with slightly different policies if they really want to sell to them.

Re:Heathrow scraps 100ml liquid container limit on Tuesday January 27, 2026 @05:23PM (#46787933)
Tiny airport, on island with tiny population, thats not a major tourist destination, thats subject to competing territorial claims, that had a major war fought over it in living memory, has extra security requirements and a poor terminal...

I'm flabbergasted, this is absolutely shocking and outrageous!!!

I would much rather see the penguins in the maldives!!!

And I prefer to have a healthy bank account balance.

Storing 18TB (let alone with raid) on SSDs is something only those earning Silicon Valley tech wages can afford.

Re:Yt-dlp: Upcoming new requirements for YouTube downloads on Wednesday September 24, 2025 @02:39PM (#45364341)
Doesn’t solve VLCs suckiness on iOS. No PiP support when it’s been in iOS for years now…
Re:Where does iOS's on device model get its information from? on Thursday September 18, 2025 @04:58AM (#45287281)
This comment sums up the current state of Apple’s LLMs perfectly.
I wonder if this is because the code was just never looked at again after it was written or if it actually survived rewrites?

Back in the day the iPhone was notorious for messing up alarm timezones and failing to activate with DST changes… https://www.abc.net.au/news/2011-01-03/alarm-failure-leaves-...

Re:Ubiquiti Launches UniFi OS Server for Self-Hosting on Thursday July 31, 2025 @02:13PM (#44748419)
This. They make excellent access points and their lite beam/air fibre products are great.

But UniFi has serious limitations when it comes to anything beyond the basics. An off the self Asus all in one home router actually has more features and capabilities.

Yep the difference between 10^78 and 10^1100 is approximately 10^1100…
Re:UK bans fake reviews and sneaky fees on Sunday April 06, 2025 @03:18AM (#43599552)
Ryanair doesn’t have sneaky feees. It’s entirely possible to book a flight with them for the price advertised and first quoted when you search. They do prompt you to pay for heaps of extras but there are none that are unavoidable.

The real offenders are ticketing companies that charge mandatory service fees or convenience fees without providing a way to purchase the item at the advertised cost.

Denmarks largest export is Ozempic. Ignoring IP rules will hurt EU producers too.

How do you plan to ignore IP to hurt American tech companies. I guess if you allow piracy of all of netflixs content that would work (but same thing would hurt spotify).

Most tech companies are not protected by IP but by network effects and vendor lock in. It would be far simpler to simply implement a minimum tax on revenue or advertising spend in country to extract value.

I wouldn't count out Trump sending out "tariff profit" checks (with his face of course) to all Americans. If he gives everyone a $2000-5000 check (undoubably paid for by borrowings not real tariff income) then he'll get a pass for at least a few months.
Good to see that Trump will be providing subsidies on goods imported from Australia to balance out the -107% trade relationship they have with them.

Oh wait its a 10% tariff on Australia too. Better make a new version of this chart with a -117% benefit to the US then...

Yep. You might need to disable Adblock to have it appear.

I was still hoping for something more than a simple email waitlist signup however. But I didn’t find anything obvious hidden in the page that would allow immediate signup

https://thundermail.com

Site is here with waitlist signup. It's also titled "For Those Who Know" and says: >> status beta_signup.is_open=true so perhaps theres a CLI or hidden way to signup immediately?

Re:America's Most Shocking Economic Defeat in 40 Years on Wednesday April 02, 2025 @03:46PM (#43560735)
> actually buy on merit and cost.

While remembering that when you wanted to use what you purchased to defend your ally in Ukraine your supplier prohibited you. Lets see how much merit there is in any US purchase with that in the background...

Are these just alternative facts and MAGA talking points or do you have any proof from a reputable source for what you stated?
Re:Azure's Weakest Link? How API Connections Spill Secrets on Wednesday March 12, 2025 @04:45AM (#43341049)
That’s a scary vulnerability. There’s no mention of the bug bounty paid out for it but I hope it was substantial.
Re:Zelensky leaves White House after angry meeting on Friday February 28, 2025 @03:38PM (#43210289)
Going to deter war in Asia by simply telling China, go for it, take Taiwan and the whole 9 dash line?

That’s not deterring war, it’s appeasement. Ask the great European powers (and eventually the US) how that worked against Hitler…

Re:Alexa+, the Next Generation of Alexa on Wednesday February 26, 2025 @12:12PM (#43185694)
Perhaps pricing in other markets will be substantially lower and undercut the Prime cost?
Re:Apple Debuts iPhone 16e on Wednesday February 19, 2025 @12:23PM (#43104693)
You can easily just add a case with magnets in it. Even iPhone 16 Pro cases often embed magnets in them to compliment the built in ones.

I'm guessing you might miss the cool animations but for charging and mounting it will work the same.

Re:Apple Debuts iPhone 16e on Wednesday February 19, 2025 @12:17PM (#43104610)
There's absolutely no reason for them to introduce a new mechanical camera system. They previously marketed their cropping of the center 12MP of their 48MP sensor as 2x optical zoom. They will use the same method here.
Re:Resigning as Asahi Linux project lead on Thursday February 13, 2025 @01:59PM (#43039784)
100% this. Yes, Hector went nuclear, but he begged Linus to step in and provide leadership (either merge or reject) and instead Linus ignored the whole technical issue with regards to rust being totally blocked.

Even now with Hector out of the picture, there’s still no suitable path forward for rust in Linux. No wonder why people are giving up (exactly what the blockers want).

> Well, if anyone broke the law or harmed him he needs to go to law enforcement or the FBI

I think it's naive to suggest this would achieve anything when the platform is anonymous and he was based outside the US.

> Outside of that, just get used to be thrown abuse of all kinds.

This is far easier to say than to do. Particularly when you have a public profile as part of your work.

> If you get tagged by a group like that the more you talk about them the more you give them ammo.

Agreed but that still doesn't make it easy to ignore.
