I am surprised that people pay $12/ month for a single Substack newsletter.
"He wasn't convicted for that". Maybe that's the point. Maybe he should have been.
The AI should be doing the reading, then deciding what to do, then doing it, right? While you are at the beach, or unemployed. That's what Sam says.
> Decoupling between layers will be essential!
You then don't need to "break the speed boundary".
"Trite as the gh issue is and surely this is thankless work, the bottom line and reality is that rsync is a cornerstone for a lot of sensitive pipelines".
Maybe don't piss off the maintainer then?
> If we don't even know the ratio between amortized capital expenses and operational costs, outside investor analysis is impossible.
And yet we surely need this data for the IPO? Or are they relying on rule changes on the indexes to force ETFs to buy shares?
They are abusing our trust. That's the issue.
It's true though, isn't it.... The question is do they use it?
"Rolling their own seems silly".
But isn't AI going to destroy all current software vendors?? Everybody is going to roll their own?? In fact, AIs will handle all support autonomously?? I mean they can spin up their database if needed?? What more do they need?
Hence the SAAS apocalypse...
Oh wait... this sarcasm will get me targeted by the LessWrong AI god when he/she/it becomes omnipotent....
"But then how can the former category continue to fulfill their obligations?".
They can't. Just like the steel workers who lost their jobs in the 1970's.
Good point. There is a difference between using AI as a translator and using AI to write comments from scratch... Maybe the HN guide lines could reflect this.
"then I am hopefully helping decrease the return advertisers get by using personal information".
Arguably, clicking on the ad but never buying would have a stronger negative affect. The advertiser pays for your click but gets no return...
I use an adblocker too.
In the USA California, Texas, Delaware etc all have different company registration and compliance processes. This has not damaged the business environment.
It should be left to each EU country to decide how to manage their company compliance processes. Those companies can then easily trade all over the EU.
You can easily set up a company in Ireland.
The EU does not to over reach with one-size-fits-all regulations. That will eventually lead to it's dissolution. It needs to concentrate on maintaining a free trade area.
Crappification is a better word.
"I think it continues to be under-appreciated how much of a lead Tesla still has in EVs".
As long as you don't compare them to BYD etc.
This is a really excellent essay. Deserves to be widely read.
Exactly. Occasionally a really good well designed reliable product comes along. But then over time time it gets crappified. The only exception seems to be some open source software.
NVidia only owns 4% of Intel. They won't be able to dictate it's direction.
Finally AGI is here......

Obviously in the right contexts, these methods provided value. But they became widely misapplied, causing a lot of harm.
And the Wikipedia list is far from exhaustive.
This is great. Love the small web filter.
Well done! I will be using it.
When I got my first job in 1986, the company had a tool that allowed non engineers to write code. Of course it didn't work. They could write code, but it ended up as a buggy, unreliable, unmaintainable mess. It turned out it was a good sales tool, get our technology into the company, then we would get paid to write the programs.
Then the were the the MS Access and Excel amateur efforts. I worked at a company that for years had a very profitable business replacing in house MS Access spaghetti with our well designed application.
Aaaand..... here we go.... deja vu all over again....
Like the OP said "LLMs are bar none the absolute best natural language processing and producing systems we’ve ever made".
They may not be good at much else.
I'm thinking Hacker News and YC can fuck off. I'm out of here. Just another Techno Fascist propaganda outlet.
And for all you Techno Fascists, remember the Night of the Long Knives. They'll come after you too.
Don't forget your Elon salute.
Flagged of course . Bruce Schneier is one of the most respected cyber security experts in the world. But his opinion is no longer welcome on HN.
