Re:Ask HN: What websites do you visit every day? on Friday February 19, 2021 @10:48AM (#26194357)
1. Hacker News 2. Reddit.com 3. Statesreport.com
This is more related to federal law preemption. The federal agency gave up powers to regulate. Similar to the betting regulation that has been overturned, allowing states to regulate betting.

The Intelligence by The Economist
I built https://statesreport.com as an ad-free news aggregator. Let me know what you think!

Re:The Urgent Quest for Slower, Better News on Wednesday April 10, 2019 @05:00PM (#19628731)
I have loved Economist, The Intelligence podcast everyday. 20 minutes covering 3 topics with experts.
Re:The Urgent Quest for Slower, Better News on Wednesday April 10, 2019 @04:50PM (#19628658)
This was one of my goals in building https://statesreport.com. It won't necessarily be the first site to break news, but the goal is to provide better news based on NLP + ML classification.
I believe this is just under the "Discover" option. When selecting an expiration, it is displayed as Call/Put.
Re:Google News Initiative on Wednesday March 21, 2018 @04:11PM (#16641886)
I certainly will in the future. Thank you for the kind feedback!

The python scraper base64 encodes all the images, so that data is prepared for the web server. The python library being used is PIL. The CSS is hand-written in a Go template. The goal was to have all the rendering done in a single request, so I choose to embed the CSS and relax the CSP on styles.

Re:Google News Initiative on Tuesday March 20, 2018 @06:16PM (#16633265)
It mainly uses RSS feeds versus HTML scraping, but there are a couple of news sources where HTML is required.
Re:Google News Initiative on Tuesday March 20, 2018 @06:15PM (#16633262)
Thanks, that was the goal!
Re:Google News Initiative on Tuesday March 20, 2018 @01:50PM (#16630865)
The server is written in Go. The news scraper is written in python. I don't have the full list of sites offhand, but I'll try and get back to this comment!
Re:Google News Initiative on Tuesday March 20, 2018 @01:49PM (#16630849)
Thank you! I will make sure that gets included in future testing.
Re:Google News Initiative on Tuesday March 20, 2018 @01:48PM (#16630835)
No, and no plans to. If costs become an issue, I will ask for donations to fund. It's heavily optimized, so I think it can handle the spike!

Thank you for the nice feedback!
Re:Google News Initiative on Tuesday March 20, 2018 @12:40PM (#16630189)
I got fed up with Google News a year or so ago, over the echo chamber that the news site has become. It motivated me to create https://statesreport.com, with no ads and no tracking.
https://statesreport.com is a project I wrote as an alternative.
Re:Redesigning Google News on Wednesday June 28, 2017 @10:40AM (#14654509)
I built https://statesreport.com because I found Google News lacking. The goal being a highly optimized news aggregator that doesn't use ML to create an echo chamber of news you agree with.
Are there any credit card companies or banks offering cards that will not participate?
