Re:The Day the Telnet Died on Tuesday February 10, 2026 @08:54PM (#46969769)
Do you care if they steal your account though and drop all your inventory?

The problem is the auth is plain text too and you're open to having your credentials stolen.

There is competition, they took over the contract from Deleware North in 2014 IIRC.
Re:Try Switching to Kagi on Tuesday April 29, 2025 @09:45AM (#43832529)
Here's some stats that kagi publishes on how people are using their blocking and a great place to great started with it as well.

https://kagi.com/stats?stat=leaderboard

I know lots of people that have their 2 factor auth setups on the same computer they are using to login. If you can compromise that computer, there's no additional "2fa" needed.

All it takes is some engineer that needs admin access for their job installing something.

Re:Summary of Major Changes Between Python Versions on Saturday July 06, 2024 @08:35AM (#40890065)
It's incredible to see how much stuff has been added over the last couple of years.

I've missed a lot of these that I'm going to take advantage of!

The prop on the hat acts as a para-shoot slowing down the hat via auto rotation.

It's the same behavior that a helicopter would have if it was doing an emergency landing as well.

Re:Ask HN: Nobody interested in an open hardware iPod Nano? on Thursday February 29, 2024 @06:05PM (#39556378)
Well, I think it's as simple as you say. Phones have completely taken over the market. The majority of people don't find any value in having another device that's only differentiating factor is that it isn't their phone. (You didn't mention headphone jacks).

It's just like portable GPS devices, electronic organizers (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qdeE_kiG5Co), electronic translators/dictionaries, calculators, alarm clocks, ...

Re:DiskClick: Ever wanted to hear Old Hard drive sounds on Monday February 19, 2024 @08:24PM (#39436958)
I don't know if I was that attuned to my system, but I really miss having an audible way of knowing when a process was blocked by disk access.
I was actually thinking about MQTT after I posted this.

I'm leaning towards just allowing the mqtt server you connect to to be changed, so that you can point it at whatever in the future, and all messages are plain text and documented.

Ask HN: What can a IoT company do to deliver a user first product

I'm diving into an IoT project and I've been mulling over how to build and maintain trust with my future customers, especially in the long term. The dream is not just to launch a product but to create something that stands the test of time and changes in ownership, should it be acquired down the line. I'm all for transparency and am considering open-sourcing the cloud components right off the...

Re:OpenWrt: Smartphone USB Tethering on Sunday November 26, 2023 @10:52PM (#38427846)
How do you use this in practice?

Do you plug your phone in via USB-C and then use the WIFI off of that instead of the hotspot on your device?

Or do you go to hotels and use this to connect to their wifi and then use your own AP?

Re:Show HN: A “CRM” for your personal relationships on Saturday September 23, 2023 @04:02PM (#37626924)
What features are on your roadmap to make it more CRM than personalized greeting cards? There's also https://www.monicahq.com/, an open source personal CRM that doesn't allow you to directly engage with people like elim allows.
Re:Hacking the Timex M851 on Sunday September 03, 2023 @09:44PM (#37376385)
wow, I can't believe the iphone is 16 years old. I also had this watch and it came well before it. Maybe 2002?
A lot of people won't fully fuel up their 172 so they can bring more weight, either baggage or passengers. I don't think anyone would fly 6.5 hours in one either, but 2+ is normal for non-training flights.
Wind is the main one.

You might also run into some weather you didn't have to plan for and that changes the prevailing winds at the altitude you were previously cruising at or causes you to divert to fly around it.

Re:Dishwasher Salmon on Saturday April 15, 2023 @11:10PM (#35586922)
I think I learned about this from the TV show Home Improvement in the Tool Time segment.
Sorry, that was me. I about 12 years old at the time. There was crazy stuff you can do like decrease the time between shots, but what I liked to do was play as the tie bomber, fly around(also unfair), and drop mines at a normal rate.
Re:The $20 an hour Cessna 172 experiment on Thursday February 09, 2023 @03:23PM (#34730824)
I personally don't know what will happen, but I figure that type of test is easy to do in a lab environment.
I think it's actually closer to 4x as much. You can get about 4KWhs of LiPoFE4 for about $800. At least you could 2-3 years ago.
I've got one that copies files to a remote webserver and puts a link to it in the clipboard. Based off of this: https://gist.github.com/kenmickles/bf8ffbf7117f4b394ff01c8ed...
Re:The longest ever flight was 64 days in a Cessna 172 (2021) on Monday December 12, 2022 @08:10PM (#33963208)
Not really. Maybe the Air Race Classic[1] is the closest I think think of.

Re:AirPlay and Touch Bar = Network Disaster on Saturday June 11, 2022 @05:08PM (#31708420)
The Linux way is to copy text anywhere just by selecting it and paste it with the middle mouse button.
One of my most successful coworkers, who recently got a promotion this year, spends his time chatting with people, joking all day, and bantering with people in different departments. He's the go-to guy for figuring out if there's an existing solution to a problem or getting an opinion of if some work is going to run into problems later with some other changes someone is going to make.

The point I'm trying to make is, that it pays to be connected to your coworkers, because problems get solved when information is flowing between people.

It shouldn't be all work related conversations either. It's much easier to change subjects to something more serious when you have a rapport with someone and they are more likely to confide in you if they know you're on the same team.

And the answer to why give someone who's happy a raise, It's so they stay because they are becoming an essential part of the business and they're increasing everyone else's productivity as well. And if they don't give you a raise, you'll have built a large network of friends at your company who will probably want to bring you along as well if they leave.

That's a very specific "class" of aircraft. STOL. Short take off and landing. It's popular in the back country though.
Re:Shortage of air conditioner parts expected this summer on Tuesday June 15, 2021 @10:54PM (#27524365)
One important factor is that there are design decisions made which are optimized for air conditioning such as buildings without any windows that open.
Re:Ask HN: Any companies that pay in BTC? on Friday February 26, 2021 @02:24PM (#26278734)
I don't have an answer for your question, but I was curious, are you interested in getting paid in BTC at a rate that is tied to the USD or that is negotiated up front based on what the BTC/USD pair is traded at when they sign the offer?

If the former, why not just buy at each paycheck as zepto stated below?

Re:Why Can't Everyone Do the 'Asian Squat'? on Saturday March 17, 2018 @04:57AM (#16606105)
