I wish that my MBP14 was as thin as my partner’s MBA13.

Not to mention how often I long for my MBA11 with the tapered body which almost made it feel like it was floating in my lap when working from the couch.

Is it really all a function of the dollar being a reserve currency though? The UK has gone through a very similar transformation starting with Thatcher.

How is that relevant to the argument that legacy hardware’s power inefficiency isn’t as big of a deal when electricity prices are lower?

Where can I read more about these rumors?

Please do elaborate.
Re:Decade-old RAM is making a comeback on Sunday October 11, 2026 @08:12AM (#50042417)
The cheapest price in Europe at best equaling the average price in China sounds like it just proves my point?
Re:Decade-old RAM is making a comeback on Sunday October 11, 2026 @05:25AM (#50041282)
Energy means electricity in this case, and the EU prices are about 2-3x those paid in China AFAIK, for both residential and commercial.
Re:The smartest Claude Code feature is not for its users on Wednesday October 07, 2026 @02:28AM (#49989076)
I can relate. The most sadly amusing part is when I know I’m approaching something the wrong way and I still keep at it even though the voice in my head keeps telling me that it should take a different approach.

Last year I tore down the whole roof of my cabin instead of just the asbestos tiles because I had momentum, all while I kept thinking “you should really stop and consider what you are doing, this was NOT the plan”.

The voice was right and now I need to learn how to level the roof on an old Frankenstein’s monster cabin…

Our definition of rape is VERY broad by international standards, so comparisons are complicated.

Modern rail maps are inspired by electrical schematics. But the reason for their popularity is that they are generally easier to navigate.

If you like reading sci-fi, I’d really recommend https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/We_(novel) to get some perspective on the extreme of a life where everything you do is potentially visible to any and everyone around you.
I'll admit that I haven't followed the chatter about TSMC Arizona at all. But how does what you say square with https://semiwiki.com/forum/threads/tsmc-overseas-fabs-see-pr...?
Re:Salesforce Global Outage on Thursday September 17, 2026 @12:36AM (#49736464)
But that’s not a salesforce feature but rather custom software. You could bolt that onto most systems.

This is an honest question: which serious things?
I’m in my mid 40s, and I constantly thinking about https://xkcd.com/605/ and trying to extrapolate what shape I’ll be in when I get ”old” based on the decline of the last ten years.

The projections are not looking good…

Re:iPhone Duo on Wednesday September 09, 2026 @02:51PM (#49631985)
For the iPhones, the small models were generally very capable. For example, the 13 mini was essentially identical to the regular 13 except for the physical size and battery life: https://www.apple.com/se/xc/iphone/compare?device1=IPHONE13M...
Re:Credit Card Rewards Became a $9.2B Wealth Transfer on Tuesday August 25, 2026 @03:35PM (#49439446)
The building is from the 1940s.

But this is a pretty common setup for condos in Swedish cities. Rentals usually have access to the same infrastructure but at higher prices due to kickbacks demanded by the landlords from the ISPs.

The backbone of it all is a state owned fiber connecting the cities together with municipal fiber.

But even outside of the cities FTTP is quite common. There are companies which specialize in finding rural areas where there’s enough interest to justify the cost of connecting them and then coordinating getting an economic association setup to own and manage the local infrastructure.

Re:Credit Card Rewards Became a $9.2B Wealth Transfer on Tuesday August 25, 2026 @09:38AM (#49433871)
I’m in Stockholm, and our condo HOA (BRF) includes 1Gbps per unit in the fee for all units because billing individually would cost more in admin than the service itself. We have FTTP and then cat6 to each unit.
Re:Credit Card Rewards Became a $9.2B Wealth Transfer on Tuesday August 25, 2026 @09:32AM (#49433753)
That’s not the reason. The required build out has actually already been been paid for: https://www.huffpost.com/entry/the-book-of-broken-promis_b_5.... But the US is so politically broken that corporations could just pocket the money without actually providing the infrastructure.

That does even begin to touch on crazy laws banning people from setting up their own ISP to compete: https://www.techdirt.com/2024/11/07/16-u-s-states-still-ban-....

I believe that the goal is mainly to protect the data of stolen laptops.
Please do elaborate!

I find LLM-human interaction patterns truly fascinating. In some sense, caveman kinda sits on the opposite spectrum of https://www.reddit.com/r/MyBoyfriendIsAI/, and I can kinda imagine how the complete lack of anthropomorphizing could become tiring.

Neat! But I still lean towards https://github.com/juliusbrussee/caveman.
Not only did they break classic WordPress stuff, but they also keep breaking Gutenberg APIs at a really frustrating rate.

It’s clear that the core WordPress developers have a very different idea of project stewardship than the Gutenberg devs do.
