News for hackers. Stuff that matters.

Congrats on the launch!

Some questions are top of mind after having done POCs and trials with other companies that have products in this space (excuse me if they are answered somewhere obvious - I skimmed the site and your post before drafting this):

1. What is vendor lock-in like with Momentic? In my mind there's space for a mature QA platform that agentically generates and maintains playwright/similar tests, but perhaps I'm wrong.

1.b. will Momentic code or testing standard or some aspect be open enough that it is feasible to move away from it if needed, or continue using it if Momentic goes under/deploys major breaking changes?

2. How deterministic are Momentic tests?

3. Who is your target user? Product owner / developer / SDET / ?

Also - is this saying Codex is better and cheaper than Mo?

"... though Codex is a bit more precise at 86% vs 84%. The tradeoff is cost: Mo costs $2.67 per bug vs $0.80 for Codex, less than Claude Code and Devin."

I think it's been a thing since around March https://claude.com/resources/articles/claude-builds-visuals

Edit: be sure to check Claude settings -> Capabilities -> Visuals.

Was going to say this article doesn't seem to mention the full-body scanners at the airport that I believe flight crews also need to go through... but apparently these days most of these don't use x-rays and rather use radio waves. Interesting!
Re:Show HN: Jev Plays Pokémon Red on Friday September 25, 2026 @04:27PM (#49849494)
Hm wondering what a first pass optimal setup might be - jev for overworld navigation, escalate to sonnet for easy battles, opus for medium difficulty battles, and fable for gym bosses could probably have jev also manage all the escalation / de-escalation to different models.

Think most people are aware of the phrase "pace yourself".
I mostly just want UI icons that make sense. The LibreOffice icons all look samey to me, can never find what I'm looking for.
Was enjoying the article and then around half way through they try to force you to sign up to continue reading. Nah not tonight unfortunately.

A bit dark pattern-y.

Re:Show HN: Rdltr – Inbox zero for your reading list on Wednesday September 09, 2026 @01:51PM (#49630480)
Very cool idea.

Don't think I can go all-in on something like this without some way to guarantee I don't lose all my saved stuff - perhaps a way to sync to a cloud storage service, or at least an easy way to export everything manually to a file?

Re:Pebble Mega Update – July 2026 on Friday July 17, 2026 @04:37PM (#48952028)
It will be - see Eric's responses here https://github.com/coredevices/mobileapp/issues/270

I am very keen to use the PT2 version. Don't need a dedicated ring.

I believe Simon also tests other things that are not as public.

I do think there's something to be said for the big difference in the current abstraction layer jump - the loss of determinism. It is meaningfully different.
Re:My Steam Machine Is a 50ft HDMI Cable on Friday June 26, 2026 @04:41PM (#48691720)
My TV was cheap so I didn't expect much. Steam link really struggles on it - thankfully I still have the old Steam Link hardware and it works alright. Locked to 1080p though.

Refused to spend more on a TV because I feel you don't get much more processing power for an increase in price. All smart TVs I've interacted with in the last 5 years have been much slower than I would consider acceptable.

How many books do you want to fit on that thing? :o

We've been quite impressed with GCP Document AI. Not sure if it has a free tier but perhaps that's where Google is putting all the good OCR.

Good, realistic examples! Potentially related word/concept: alogia.

The classic "Hi" message never gets old... no wait, sorry, it was always old.

In my experience (from a couple of years ago), Streamable can be great but it's just worth checking what their current retention policy is like.

We were sharing game clips with each other and after a while realised our old clips were just gone, being deleted after 30 or 90 days or something.

Re:Vercel Claude Code plugin wants to read your prompt on Thursday April 09, 2026 @01:54PM (#47706994)
But your bash history is logged to vercel by default. The amount of sensitive data (PII, secrets, ...) piped via bash makes this a big issue.
People shouldn't really be walking around in public with ANC on. It's not safe. Not a simple problem to solve except maybe to inform people better upon buying/setting up ANC-enabled devices.
They aren't going away but for some they may become prohibitively expensive after all the subsidies end.

I do think coding with local agents will keep improving to a good level but if deep thinking cloud tokens become too expensive you'll reach the limits of what your local, limited agent can do much more quickly (i.e. be even less able to do more complex work as other replies mention).

Re:The Claude Code Leak on Thursday April 02, 2026 @06:50AM (#47612605)
Have a look at the Pebble Index ring. Might be a good fit for you.
Doubt Raycast would have known about this, think they are smarter than that. But who knows.
Re:Management Time: Who's Got the Monkey? [pdf] on Saturday January 24, 2026 @05:10PM (#46748237)
I'm a people pleaser and am involved in too many things at work. Friday afternoon mid-sentence I realised I was putting like 5 monkeys on my back for something I'd get done before we start the sprint Monday morning...

Good article to reflect on. Tone is a bit crass maybe but a good read. Need to get better at helping (if I can) and then delegating, instead of defaulting to "let me look into it".

Re:When employees feel slighted, they work less on Saturday January 24, 2026 @05:06PM (#46748210)
Ouch, maybe hopefully there is someone else not directly above you but somewhere off to the side that can understand the value you bring, it may be worth fishing around for other managers/directors/?? to adopt the project if it isn't being managed and resourced properly.

Good luck either way!

Re:When employees feel slighted, they work less on Saturday January 24, 2026 @11:09AM (#46744756)
That sucks. The following is unsolicited stuff you probably already know - feel free to ignore.

I would heavily suggest speaking frankly about this with your manager or even going above their head if needed to ensure someone hears and acknowledges this. With your review in hand and any other additional info that can help back you up.

Ask what you need to focus on to secure a substantial Y raise/promotion and bonus etc. over the next X months and work towards that, keeping management updated as things progress. Probably have specific numbers for X and Y to mention as targets.

95% of the time I click the tick box and wiggle my mouse and it lets me through without doing a captcha.

I believe they check your mouse for human-like movement as an additional factor. Could be wrong but I haven't been bothered by many captchas in the last couple years.
