Re:Model Fatigue Is Real on Friday September 04, 2026 @02:14AM (#49561110)
What's your testing framework like? Do you guess at the best model, then send the same request +/-1 and compare?
The way through is changing how you think of yourself, not necessarily what you do. At some point in your personal history, you got very good at crawling. Now you're not a crawler, walker or even driver. They're just things you do when needed.

The shift is in how you describe yourself. "I am a coder" places your identity in a function that AI is now performing. Grief, shame, embarrassment, fear comes along with that. "I work as a coder" or "I write code" places it in a behaviour which is something you consciously practice, adapt, change.

Re:How Complex Systems Fail on Sunday August 23, 2026 @10:42PM (#49414694)
The operators know complex systems work. Words I've spoken, heard, or both: "Just rerun it, works the second time." "That's been failing for a while now. Just ignore the alert." "This procedure is old. We've added a step 64b in pencil. I can't remember why." "Is it meant to sound like that?" "What's the tape for?" "Careful you don't bump this button." "The database name has changed, the post-it has the new one. That's a '1' by the way." "Accept the failure, keep going." "Because you're the person touching the system the most, you're the most likely person to break it." "I know it says call on failure, but they never answer."

This reply is not directed to you specifically, but that attitude is why improvement doesn't happen.

"My peers are all bad", "Management has no idea what's going on", "My boss is out of touch", "My staff keep screwing up".

But if you're consistently seeing the problems while everyone else becomes defensive, you (that think that way) need to learn how to communicate effectively in a way that doesn't result in being 'the baddie' and solve the interpersonal dynamic along with the technical problems. "Crucial Conversations" is a good place to start.

My first computer from the 80's had autocomplete: ZX80.

Was only BASIC, but needed as there wasn't any way to save...

Re:UPI: Anatomy of a Payment Transaction on Sunday July 12, 2026 @05:41AM (#48879733)
Sure, but visa and mastercard share their transactions with the US government (among others). "Hot Watch": where the US gov gets real time surveillance on a target. Bank Secrecy Act: where private networks and their issuing banks are legally mandated to act as unpaid deputies for the state. At least with UPI you're sharing with less governments?
You missed the AI generated graphic to go with the post.

The nipple is the universal interface. Everything else is an abstraction.

Show HN: Building effective Human-AI hybrid decision-making ecosystem

https://galdren.com/lgd/

I'm running an experiment to discover ways to move AI agents from "instruction followers" to "process owners". Most agents fail when a task requires evolving intuition or persistent, multi-day workflows. The core of this experiment is a collaborative "do-and-learn" loop where the agent executes a proven, high-stakes lead generation methodology, and the human provides the "judgment" layer. This is...

Comes down to what is meant by 'friendly'.

Is it friendly to tell someone they've got spinach in their teeth? Is it friendly to agree with everything someone says? Is it friendly to ask about someones dead parents? Is it friendly to insult? Is it friendly to talk around a personal issue, never stating the obvious?
