If crap is indistinguishable from substance, is it truly crap?
If it is distinguishable, can’t the machines do the distinguishing?

> A more persuasive sales pitch for me to consider Apple products would be if the company had judgement not to ship such a hot mess of a sloppy product in the first place...
When I read a sentence like this, I have to remind myself that this is Apple products we're talking about.
What other company do you feel surpasses Apple in terms of "judgement not to ship such a hot mess of a sloppy product in the first place"?
Is there any consumer electronics company today that ships products that are in any way less of a slop than Apple?
What makes it sticky? I just don't see it. The declarative Github Actions manifests?
I imagine very few people use the wiki, because it's so subpar.
The issues are a problem, but this is why I always thought issues should be a core part of the Git repo, checked into it, sort of how Fossil does it. And so should the wiki, for that matter.
I wonder if it's possible to have the reverse of this -- map a given result to breakage.
The perfect driving equivalent of AI slop
When I was very young, a wise adult once advised me about a class project: "it doesn't have to be good, it just has to be the best".
I'm afraid that's exactly what Apple's software is. The market, much like my school teacher, rewards the best -- no matter how good or bad it is.
That is to say, its main product is its human users.
Wasn't taken as such at all, I was genuinely curious -- never heard the term.
The original comment to which I replied said "most managers and execs", so I thought I'd address the "managers" part of it.
I'm not sure I understand the metaphor, since I've never worked as a lead clerk in a grocery store. Do you mind elaborating?
I’ve never been an executive but I’ve worked as an Engineering Manager and a Senior EM of various levels at big shot software engineering companies and all the same rules always applied to me as literally every other employee I managed, directly or indirectly.
Aren't the managers subject to the same 3-minute shots themselves?
In this country of oh-so-much freedom and journalism how can a layperson like myself check whether in the final degree my tax dollars are really paying for someone’s collection of vintage Ferraris, hidden behind an inconspicuous budget item?
How's this different from modern-day "aristocracy"? Don't they get servants who do their laundry, cook their food, pour their Port, and generally do all the work?
Who's your internet provider? I'm about to launch my product and am seriously considering deploying it in a home lab, but I'm feeling on the fence about Google Fiber 1G out of a residential neighborhood in Austin.

...and exactly what bad thing will happen to Sam Altman as a result of AI?

This was also the best part of QBASIC.
It was just wonderful. I owe so much to that thoughtful feature as a child.
I wish I could meet the person who decided that. You’ve changed my life.
Can someone explain whether these are physiological / chemical issues, or whether they are a matter of the things your brain "knows", your neural network, and therefore can be transformed by the power of thoughts?
In other, more blunt terms, is this a "hardware" or a "software" issue?
> the economy in general is looking extremely dire at the moment
Can you elaborate on this? What about the economy is looking dire?
> eventually becoming a monopoly (or part of the big tech "duopoly")
At this point this has already effectively happened. The average person doesn't realize the extent of it, because the products Cloudflare builds are inherently transparent to the average consumer.
When dentists take scans of our teeth, can those scans theoretically be rendered in this tool?
I guess I don't understand the term "corporate socialism". What does it mean, and how did it create the world of NVIDIA and AMD, Google and Microsoft, Anthropic and OpenAI?
Weren't Mr. Huang, his cofounders, and his peers, rewarded based on merit? Where did socialism step in?
If anyone's wondering how this works, it
looks like[1] Gemini + guardrails:
> Google is proud to be named a technology partner in this vital initiative, leveraging Gemini to help more than 100 million people access critical public resources with greater speed and ease

Isn't it more like "it's who
capitalism rewards"?
All we've chosen is free markets.
