Any macOS builds out there? I would really like to have one app that can open both ePubs and pdfs.

Don’t need the library feature to manage books like Books.app, just need a light and reliable reader.

Re:SumatraPDF 3.4 Released on Tuesday May 31, 2022 @08:07AM (#31568593)
SumatraPDF is great! It’s fast, but does not work well for annotations like highlighting text.

I have switched to Okular, you can install it directly from the Microsoft store directly.

Please add math support in github markdown. Something real users need.

Stop trying to make it a social network.

It's kind of hard to imagine how DoorDash execs are going to explain to those investors who find this on HN / elsewhere and ask them what the eff is going on ?
Re:Nbdev: Use Notebooks for Literate Programming on Tuesday April 14, 2020 @02:37AM (#22863284)

Re:Nbdev: Use Notebooks for Literate Programming on Tuesday April 14, 2020 @02:36AM (#22863281)
this is exactly what I was looking for. thanks.
Re:Nbdev: Use Notebooks for Literate Programming on Monday April 13, 2020 @10:17PM (#22862152)
Can nbdev be used with other Jupyter kernels, for eg like Julia.

My main issue with notebooks is putting them under version control in git. This seems like it could help with that.

I cannot believe that you make more from such a niche dev tool than your job at Google. I always thought people who use clojure/scheme would be using their custom setup in emacs or vim.

I'm interested to learn more details, how things were when you first started out selling the app and the trend.

Re:Getting 1Password 7 ready for the Mac App Store on Sunday May 20, 2018 @10:39AM (#17112876)
I have been using Bitwarden for some time now. It’s an open source password manager. There are apps for all major platforms and extensions to all major browsers. Checkout https://bitwarden.com/
Re:Ask HN: What do you want to see in Ubuntu 17.10? on Tuesday April 04, 2017 @02:53AM (#14030140)
For me the default colors on ubuntu were never welcoming. Changing them would be great. Hopefully with Unity 8 they choose better and warmer colors
I don't understand why Gadfly is the top repo. I always found it to be very slow and having too many dependencies. Last I remember it installs more than 20 packages as dependencies. Its also not a supported backend in Plots.jl
Re:Google Duo, a simple 1-to-1 video calling app on Tuesday August 16, 2016 @01:24PM (#12298983)
Wire also takes a similar approach.

I think google is trying to mimic whatsapp here: A single device with end to end encryption so that your keys never leave the device.

I use google scholar alerts for people whose research I want to follow. You will get a jive email when ever people you follow publish something with links.
Re:iPad-only is the new desktop Linux on Sunday July 31, 2016 @07:57PM (#12199504)
This is going to change with projects like snap and flatpak. Soon every app will be come bundled with its own dependencies like Windows exe's
Re:Gimp 2.9.4 Released on Thursday July 14, 2016 @05:02AM (#12092484)
Found this http://www.gimp.org/docs/userfaq.html#arent-you-interested-i...

Turns GIMP developers encourage private campaigns focussed on developing specific features.

Another good article on current state of GIMP: http://libregraphicsworld.org/blog/entry/gimp-is-20-years-ol...

Re:Gimp 2.9.4 Released on Thursday July 14, 2016 @04:14AM (#12092333)
For preexisting OSS, I think it is difficult to get a successful Kickstarter campaign because they cannot really sell something for pledges. Have there been any successful Kickstarter FOSS projects ?

I think Bountysource is better here but for mega issues like UI redesign or GTK3 port etc a campaign may be the right way to go.

Re:Gimp 2.9.4 Released on Thursday July 14, 2016 @03:19AM (#12092168)
Adobe's new subscription model for Photoshop, makes it expensive for non-professionals. GIMP looks more attractive now for occasional photo editing.

For Inkscape and GIMP to be a good alternative for Adobe's apps, I think they need to improve on UI a lot. I wonder if there is any umbrella organization which can look after FOSS Design apps like GIMP, Inkscape, Krita etc.

Re:Introducing MIR on Wednesday April 27, 2016 @08:34PM (#11585791)
I am not sure if Julia already has something like this, because there was some work precompilation. Can someone throw some light on this ?

Would love have support like this for Python.
I was going to mention anaconda but you already said that.

This should be first in the list. I was wondering why it was not in the list..
