Re:The Absurd Primacy of the Car in American Life on Thursday April 14, 2016 @08:30AM (#11496058)
The author seems really angry, maybe a good Sunday drive would cheer him up.
The more you know, the more you know you don't know. Interesting article, even if I only really understood the title.
My only regret is that I only have one point to give.
Re:Project Rider – A C# IDE on Wednesday January 13, 2016 @08:36AM (#10894119)
I wonder how this compares to "Visual Studio Code" which is also cross-platform and MIT licensed: https://code.visualstudio.com/

Ampaches inability to handle like named Albums (https://github.com/ampache/ampache/issues/807) was my reason to drop it and start Roadie https://github.com/sphildreth/roadie
Re:Koel: A personal music streaming server on Tuesday December 15, 2015 @08:48AM (#10737702)
I also started a project on my own; mostly to accommodate my 80k music collection and partly to get better with Python: https://github.com/sphildreth/roadie
Re:How Azure scaled to 2,000 employees on GitHub on Tuesday November 24, 2015 @09:05AM (#10620706)
Is this the proper use of Ironic? Complaining about Github by mentioning a superior alternative that is hosted on Github?
Re:Chuck Forsberg has died – author of Zmodem on Thursday November 19, 2015 @08:55AM (#10594730)
What an awesome obituary.

Re:Microsoft Azure Outage on Wednesday November 19, 2014 @08:38AM (#8629900)
Oh its 99.9% from Microsoft see http://azure.microsoft.com/en-us/support/legal/sla/ which means they get 9h a year to hit the SLA see http://uptime.is/
Re:Microsoft Azure Outage on Wednesday November 19, 2014 @08:27AM (#8629853)
So much for the idea of 99.999% uptime with the magical "cloud" buzzword. I noticed during this downtime in North America that Word Online wasn't functioning as my daughter tried to use it to do some homework.
Re:Ask HN: What (side) projects are you working on? on Wednesday November 05, 2014 @04:32PM (#8564390)
I am building https://www.rdrbot.com using:

* ASP.NET MVC 5, Knockoutjs, Momentjs, jQuery and Bootstrap

* Azure Websites, Azure SQL, Azure DocumentDB, Azure Caching

* OAuth 2 providers (Google, Facebook, Twitter and Microsoft Live)

The idea is to make a site that aggregates multiple sources into one so I can try to keep up with RSS, Twitter, Facebook, etc. Right now its somewhat a glorified RSS reader. I dunno if I will ever monetize it, something I just wanted to make.

Re:Does people still use RSS? on Tuesday November 04, 2014 @02:55PM (#8558697)
I am building https://www.rdrbot.com to (among other sources) aggregate RSS feeds. So far 100+ RSS feeds have been setup most are fairly active.
Re:The new bower.io on Friday June 27, 2014 @08:28AM (#7953657)
Is it something like NuGet for .NET packages but for Javascript? Does that mean that an ASP.NET MVC application using NuGet wouldn't really have any "need" for Bower?
Re:Hackathons done wrong on Monday June 23, 2014 @09:25AM (#7931780)
I had a decent experience at a recent hackathon. I sat down started coding, fell asleep about 0400, woke up, pointed at things like I had a clue what was going on. Sure the code was not anything to brag about, for me it was the socialization. Being able to talk development with others; hell I even learned a couple of things.

Hope I am not the only one that thought this had something to do with Leonard... http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Leonard_Hofstadter

I wish I knew how to quit you...
"life is an absurd circus; we're all clowns trying to amuse ourselves in the face of inevitable death and meaninglessness"

This is full of win. I will soon annoy everyone I know with this new mantra. Thanks!

I am in an open layout room with 8 people. Without my headphones blaring out Iron Maiden I estimate I would last about 3 days listening to the constant rambling and complaining on a wild variety of topics.
Having a sense of humor is one thing; having some common sense shouldn't be another. I don't have any issues with someone being jovial but I expect it done in a responsible way. Perhaps I am just old.
I make a good living with C# and the entire .NET platform. There are plenty of jobs (KC area) and I regularly get recruiters contacting me with new opportunities. In my opinion there is nothing wrong with that.
At least once in your life take the $100 and break it into 5 $20. Then find someone who you appreciate (Police, Fireman, EMT, Preacher, Teacher, etc.) Walk up and give them the $20 and say something simple like "Thanks for what you do, let me buy you lunch". It's an awesome experience to see someone receive unsolicited gratitude.
ReSharper is a crutch for .NET developers who are too lazy to learn all the features of Visual Studio and who get confused by LINQ. The best feature of ReSharper is the ability to easily turn itself off without totally un-installing; this allows you to conform to the notion of having ReSharper installed but not crippled by having to use it.
Connery seems to make his mark by being a professional douchy complainer. Just saying take whatever he says with a dose of "if I didn't write it, it sucks" type attitude.

Preach it brother! Much truth in this.
Re:Full Disclosure is suspended after 12 years of service on Wednesday March 19, 2014 @08:38AM (#7428167)
Seems somewhat like "Waah, I am taking my toys and going home. Internet is mean!"...
