Hi HN, I’m Sean. I built HonestSky because I was tired of weather apps that were slow to load, covered in ads some to the point of being unusable and then putting longer forecasts behind paywalls.I’ve been using it myself for over a year, and today I finally (finally finally) released it on the iOS App Store. It includes hourly and extended forecasts, radar, severe weather alerts, and air...
I was a reclaim.ai user but I only used it for the merging functionality - i didn't use any of the ai (in fact i found it annoying after i tried it. So I built my own and actually got it approved by google.
https://www.mightycalendar.com ( I worked for Amazon for the past four years - have been a developer for like 20).. commonly fix my own problems. This was one of them.
I wasn't referring to my startup failure, I was referring to not having interviewed or having done a resume for over 12 years. :D I'll get it done I have confidence in my ability to figure things out.
I appreciate you taking the time to respond. Having worked 11 years in IT in the Fortune 100 Corporate World and then giving a startup a go, I find myself a little like a fish out of water back trying to get this many years being on the other side of interviewing.
Then maybe it's my resume skills? I'm not getting the initial interviews, but then again it may be because it's around the holidays.
Thanks for the insight - I have seen a number of React postings.

I gave it a go at founding a startup. Short story - sales cycle was too long and I've run out of cash even with customers coming in. I need to find work to pay the bills now. I'm a developer at heart - I can code the MEAN stack all day long. But looking at jobs out there I see more need for React, GO etc. I'm going to do a project in another language to hone my skills, I've got java, c#, c++,...
Had the same thought - I'm a tech guy not sales, will these guys work for commission and stake in the company in lieu of salary? (Bootstrapping at the moment - have 3 customers after a month and ready to ramp up)

I am 39 years old first time (tech) founder. I'm looking for employee #3, VP of Customer Development - to help crack into a very tight networked group of customers in the construction industry. How do I do this? I am bootstrapping but the business has a 44M ARR potential in 5 years. How do I inspire the right person to join on commission and stake in the company?
What's your thought on mongodb - i've recently started a project that is running in prod now for a customer and I spent almost two weeks deciding between mysql and mongodb. Ultimately went with mongodb but it's not my forte. And I've been thinking that at some point the calls to the database are going to slow down. And i have no idea where to start looking to improve mongodb performance. (MEAN stack application) I'm sure I'll be doing a bit of research soon on that once i get the base feature set working.
Why is this on HN? i just read it and now feel... well i'm not sure but it's different than before when i read this article and the comments. And its not even lunch time yet. Back to work for me.
Just make sure you stay current with the latest trends, technology, usability, target demographics for your space. Kids out of college and recent grads inherently have this because it is what they learned. So when putting two people side by side regardless of their metrics - looking at what they know. Far often the person who is in the know and up to date rather than complaisant will have the edge. (At least in my experience)

My company is looking to transform it's employee support desk. I'd love to mimic what Apple does from all aspects; Knowledge Base and Community Support how they are almost one in the same, Genius Bars, Chat. Basically the whole end to end experience. Does anyone have any articles or insight into what they use and how they do it?
Thank you! - yeah i see those.. what browser were you using?
Going to make some updates - that is very unclear. Probably time to just get my own hands dirty and stop relying on outsourcing. Appreciate you taking the time to give us some feedback.
Thank you - that makes sense. I've have an internal struggle over design vs function. I liked the clean look of mopp.com - but you are right they stick the price right up front. Are there any sites you think are well done around cleaning.. homejoy.com, mopp.com, maidsinblack.com is the business model we are going after.
Any feedback on SEO, the site, recommendations, call to actions etc? I've done a soft launch while i work on the local SEO - i.e. get on yelp, google plus etc. Looking for all and any feedback. This is my second iteration/rewrite of the website.. almost feel like I need another major tweak. I like the look, but I'm just the owner. I like everything i do.

Yikes.. almost lost my post and couldn't find it again. (Is there a my posts section or should i just bookmark it?)
I've looked at kinvey before. Maybe worth looking back into this. Have you had any experience with their ability to scale? (I know - get users first and then scale :| but you know.. can't help but thinking it)
thanks mmariani : This looks very close to the model/py in django.
Django was basically that at the end - but its the fact that i've done it once and so until I get back into it the ramp up time is the same. I've dabbled in ruby before too. Have you had any luck with specific tutorials to get going?

Because I don't trust the results of google and how old they are I am going to ask the HN Community. I want to get a proof of concept out for an app. I am more of a UI developer and have dabbled in django/tastypie however it will take me a good couple days to get that setup in AWS. I have a data model that I could easily implement in a database (pretty good with SQL) but not tied to relational...
Any thoughts - I know there is no magic follow this guide to make money. We've been doing a lot of trial and error and I thought after two years we got the formula down to at least get the downloads... but there is something different between the markets making iOS hard. Is it just the sheer number of apps in the iOS or is the user different?

Ok so I had a similiar app in the nook market that was released last christmas. It still recieved 100s of downloads a day and is played by at least 80 people a day. I didn't put any ads in it and its basically just cross selling our other children games.<p>This year I was able to submit a version to iOS (last years got declined as it was just another...) Its free and has an ad model. (A...

Just out of curiosity... Here's their decision: Update or Delete. People don't like that extra notification laying there. So you will either retain them or loose them when you update. Some who are disengaged will just update all, but those users you care about will either update or delete.
