Amalfi coast is amazing. Pompeii very interesting. Napels Spanish quarters. As Pimeys says the restaurants are just too good. The seafood is very very good.
The thing that stood out for me is "Somewhere between 2,500 and 4,000 people have been killed by drone strikes in Pakistan since 2004".
WHAT!? That is so wrong! This stinks and we're making fuss about mathematics. Just read that sentence again.
Actually, in my experience the private-sector developers doing government contracts are well paid but are sub par skill wise. The software you work with, the slow procedures and the negativity surrounding failing projects ensure only the mediocre stay, which in turn results in longer and more failing projects. The good developers leave for startups etc.
Have a look at Holacracy for interesting ways in how to structure teams and at the same time gearing up for continuous change. It's a very different approach than creating hierarchy, but it's not completely flat either.
http://www.holacracy.org/ and http://www.responsive.org/ for more interesting philosophies surrounding movements like Holacracy.
(We have a team of 10 people and are thinking about adopting Holacracy).
That's a great tradition, that could be applied to not just coffee and pizza. Hope it takes off at other food joints as well.
On a side note, you wonder how many poor people go to coffee bar Gambrinus, featured in the article. It's well known, but a caffè costs more than 2 euro's there, whereas coffee bars in living neighbourhoods charge 70 euro cents. Gambrinus is a place where tourists and well-to-do's frequent.
Care to share some stats on visits and where they come from? I love the site!
The amount of compendiums sold isn't acurate. The prize pool is being buffed by the purchase of compendium points to garner additional features (with many players sinking money many times more than what the compendium cost).
I wouldn't be surprised if this is a big factor behind how fast the prize pool is growing.
Facebook.com isn't responsive (you'll see fixed width's, just check it out), so it does seem that responsive design is something they disregard purposefully.
I'm not getting any feedback in Chrome or Firefox (Mac OS X) that my signature has been registered... what a shame!
Chess.com. They have a nice iOS app too for playing the games on the go.
Yeah, strafing and walking backwards at least you can do. How would you crouch and go prone for example?
And I wonder how good you would be able to aim with Omni, that's gonna be a deciding factor.
I thought the top bar was nifty. It only showed when you scrolled back up. When you scroll back up you might be looking for a way to continue somewhere else, and that's when they show you the top bar with it's menu.
"you will need them again; maybe at another team, maybe at your next company or next job."
Why does the author highlight this?
So the motive for open sourcing is primarily to help yourself? The collaboration and chances to get better are more important IMHO.
Same here, 1440x900px screen. You have to make the content tiny before you see the statement above the fold.
It definitely is the right thing to do. I applaud you guys for going out of your way to make it right.
I'm really surprised developers at Twitter and Facebook haven't made read-only permissions the default.
Yeah, AWS Marketplace is great. But why does the design/ux have to be so second rate? It could be so much better.
For me the interesting stats are the staggering numbers of engagement the Facebook platform has. 845 million users who've used Facebook the last 30 days, 483 million users who use it _daily_ and 2.7 billion Likes and Comments every day.
For me this is not really about Facebook's stats, but revealing how incredible the next 10-20 years are going to be with internet facilitating this kind of activity on one smart platform. (and it's just the start)
I'm surprised Trello doesn't support IE8. IE8 is the most IE popular browser for now, and that won't change very fast. IE10 might be the first break in IE legacy we'll see, with it's auto-update feature (thanks Chrome).
Google has announced to support the current version of 4 popular browsers and the previous version, and we've adopted that as our policy as well. I guess Trello has the luxury to be able to not support IE8, you lucky bastards ;)
Too bad the test was with undergraduates, and not experts in the field for 20-30 years.
tried soocial.com? everyme looks like soocial, with some smart features.
I'd like to see a graph for man/woman ;)
Exactly the same here. Never authorized sribd, and bam it's there on my list. Creepy.
True it's from two days ago. But the title is 'AIRBNB HORROR' (yes in all caps). I wouldn't want that showing on a Google's first results page when googling my companies name.
Scrolling is cool, and I advocate it all the time, but not for longform content.
