Every time I read a Vitalik blog post, I end up wondering - how did a thinker so smart and so deep end up creating a technology that’s (now) so crass and shallow
Can't wait to cross Trump Ocean, land in Gulf of America, walk through New America (New Mexico) and shake Trump's hand for this incredible allocation of resources

The labs stole my work

The least I can expect is to get the labs work stolen too so I can reaccess intelligence based on my work for cheaper

My todo app generator does not need opus 5.5
Re:FLUX 3 Image on Saturday October 03, 2026 @05:40PM (#49948061)
You know the prompt

Me, casually scrolling on my phone, don’t

I have no way of knowing that you wanted the image to have a red wetsuit. I would just assume its a real image of a surfer in a red wetsuit

Man, AI images are solved

No signal in digital images anymore. If you didn’t see it with your own eyes, it likely never happened

This is why you can't leave judgment to technology, and why we have law enforcement and courts

"Plow into this crowd of people" is nominally wrong, but what if its actually "plow into this crowd of people that are hurting and robbing a family with two small children"

Your smart hammer refuses to let you smash into a glass window, but what if you were smashing into the glass window to save a child stuck in a fire?

Your tools refusing to do your bidding is an absurd idea in the first place

Imagine asking for permission to use your hammer

I genuinely don't know any work that has been taken over completely by AI without humans in the loop managing things

At this point, I don't even know if its possible

Re:DeepSeek V4 Flash 0731 on Saturday August 08, 2026 @01:23AM (#49219103)
Majority of white collar work absolutely does not require sota models
All I see is a flattening of the technical curve. Which is great, but the number of people who want to download an app is still the same. So all you have is 100,000 apps with no users instead of 10,000 apps with no users

You increased the amount of code written by 10x but unless there’s a 10x increase in demand, its worth nothing

I use AI a lot but my final output isn’t drastically different

Writing a lot of code doesn’t mean much when the moat was never “writing a lot of code”

Guess it found the one issue worth flagging
Re:Our position on open-weights models on Tuesday July 28, 2026 @05:15AM (#49081342)
I mean most of Chinese "wars" have been border issues. Most of these border issues themselves stem from badly drawn borders post colonial withdrawal. These are understandable, if not justifiable - countries tug at each other to figure out where their territories start/end. A hostile neighbor at your borders is a legitimate national threat

America's wars have been in countries so far away that they could've never posed any threat whatsoever to America as a nation.

Really not the same thing

Re:Our position on open-weights models on Tuesday July 28, 2026 @02:33AM (#49080158)
Such horrible villains, threatening the world with cheap stuff!
Re:Our position on open-weights models on Tuesday July 28, 2026 @02:32AM (#49080155)
A disease can come from anywhere

Unless you're trying to imply that China engineered the whole thing - extraordinary claim that will require extraordinary evidence

Re:Our position on open-weights models on Tuesday July 28, 2026 @02:30AM (#49080142)
The Indian wars were border skirmishes at most. Literally 2,000 soldiers dead on both sides combined by official count. Very few civilian casualties.

The 2020 skirmish was way smaller with single digit casualties. Again, almost no civilian casualties because it's a largely empty region in the first place

You really can't compare this to the kind of wars America has started. Casualties - both civilian and military - stood in the hundreds of thousands

All my adult life, China has given me cheap material goods. Whatever they do in their country is their own problem. They’ve never interfered in my politics or started any wars

So many of these have some building as the backdrop, but all the buildings are modernist skyscrapers and uninspired office buildings

Europe doesn't have a dearth of stunning architecture. Have they all been discarded in favor of ugly straightline modernist sloptitecture because they might be construed as offensive for some reason?

It’s even worse than before

Businesses like these used to public at reasonable valuations. You could ride with them to trillion dollar valuations and grow your own fortune too. Everyone has a story of buying Apple or Google or Amazon stock and making millions

Now they’re going live at trillion dollar valuations and by the time you get in, all the upside has already gone (see Spacex IPO)

Not only did they steal all human data, they also made sure that the upside was only limited to themselves and their cronies

Re:Codeberg Bans Cryptocurrency Projects on Wednesday July 22, 2026 @10:28PM (#49016097)
You can say the same for AI btw

There’s not a whole lot of utility to filling the world with slop

Democratization of information, but Sam Altman gets a $100B net worth and I'm still broke :)

I would prefer some sort of democratiziation of the money made from the democratization of information as well

My parents put in countless hours and tens of thousands of dollars into raising me to the point where I could write an answer on StackOverflow

And OpenAI scraped and distilled that answer and gave me nothing

Re:Why Are There No Empires in Age of Empires? (2019) on Wednesday July 22, 2026 @01:37AM (#49002266)
Viper was one of the top players even back then

I'm also in my 30s. You could've played this game at 12 and still been playing it without turning 40

Re:Why Are There No Empires in Age of Empires? (2019) on Tuesday July 21, 2026 @03:12PM (#48996781)
The most insane part of AOE2 is that I was a young teenager when I first played the game and the dominant players then are STILL the dominant players now - 27 years later
This should really be illegal
A prompt went viral recently where people were sharing their pictures and asking chatgpt to visualise what their looksmatched partner would look like

The result was always someone extremely good looking

There’s going to be an entirely new class of mental disorders that will emerge from people being deluded by AI

Wild that we all lived exactly the same way before AI

Really changed so little in my life. I just use chatgpt instead of Google search now

It's being marketed as some ground breaking revolutionary change when all it is is a better widget

Remove it and the worst that will happen is that I'll go back to writing my emails and my code by hand - something I've done for the last 20 years anyway

The public has been apathetic about every single thing and will just continue scrolling their TikToks

Public anger is a very pre-smartphone thing. You don’t worry about those sort of things when you’ve hyperoptimized the circus and made the bread cheap enough
