Re:Funding decentralised/local-first applications for GNOME on Saturday April 23, 2022 @02:41PM (#31137077)
I don't understand what you are trying to say but Anjuta and Glade are respectively 22 and 24 years old.

Anjuta stopped making progress well before GTK 4. GNOME Builder is a great alternative and was developed with GTK 3, the GTK 4 port is coming along quite well thought.

Glade is being phased out for Cambalache by its own maintainer.

I find GNOME development/platform refreshing because it's not hype driven, and it doesn't reinvent itself every year.

Them: Facebook is bad You: What about Twitter and TikTok ?

I'm pointing out that you are not refuting their point while still defending Facebook.

It seems you believe social medias are the way they are because that's all they can be.

It shows a lack of imagination and understanding of how they influence each others rather than compete to the benefit of users and society.

It's one thing to run a small research lab - it's an other to bet your entire company future on something that doesn't exist yet.

Perhaps this helps answering the question "Why Bother with All This"

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MBRqu0YOH14

> Because we are still humans and fallible.

Did you look at what Wikileaks revealed? https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/WikiLeaks#Leaks

I don't think you realize the scale of what is happening. These aren't some cute human mistakes or tax evasion.

We are talking war crimes, environmental disasters, political corruption, ...

And yes - lots of it targets the US gov, maybe time to rethink what the US (and others) gov is and isn't ?

This isn't the work of fallible humans, this is the work of malfunctioning states.

Without Wikileaks, medias and investigation that reveals the wrongdoings ... dictatorship is at the end of the road.

This is why the reasoning that Wikileaks helps dictatorships and hurts democracies is absurd.

I believe the reason you are getting down voted isn't because you don't cite your source, but because the reasoning is absurd.

  > You will always find more dirt and problems in public/accessible records than in dictatorships.
Wikileaks isn't some sort Wikipedia of public/accessible records, it's a platform to publish confidential information.

If the US gov is a healthy, democratic, open gov, how and why can Wikileaks be so damaging?

Should we stop newspapers?

You can. GNOME has a JavaScript binding called gjs. It runs JavaScript (with SpiderMonkey) and has support for most of GNOME APIs.

Re:System76 Launch Configurable Keyboard with Open Source Code on Thursday February 11, 2021 @03:32AM (#26099465)
In this case I believe it's because System76 want to start designing their own laptop rather than relying on off-the-shelf Clevo designs and some of this keyboard design might make it into their own laptop.

I do like smaller keyboards though, easier to switch with laptop, less finger travel, less travel to the mouse and so on

Re:How to Start Using Microservices on Monday August 17, 2020 @11:19AM (#24188090)
Thank you for clarifying. Then I would suggest rephrasing the following sentence

> Microservices are an alternative to the monolith approach that gives developers the flexibility, scalability, and simplicity they need to build complex software applications.

Re:How to Start Using Microservices on Monday August 17, 2020 @10:56AM (#24187896)
An interesting thing to do here is to ask who wrote this and why?

> Microtica is abstracting complex cloud setup and automation on AWS

https://microtica.com/

Microservices aren't necessarily a bad idea but keep in mind that the company behind this article has an incentive to encourage developers to build complex systems.

Re:ES Modules and Node.js: Hard Choices on Thursday June 16, 2016 @01:37PM (#11917623)
Why not

import for modules

require() for cjs

load() for modules (or any other function name)

?

Re:A Comparison of JSON Patch and JSON Merge Patch on Tuesday May 17, 2016 @02:16PM (#11715944)
I implemented/used both.

Here is a "live" playground https://json8.github.io/patch/demos/apply/ for JSON Patch

A few additional thoughts

JSON Patch can be pretty verbose but going around that is easy https://github.com/JSON8/patch#patch-size When possible I also compare the size of the patch (packed) and the expected document. If the expected document is smaller than the patch I use the PUT verb with the document as body otherwise PATCH verb with the patch as body.

Even though the spec doesn't talk about it at all, JSON Patch have the nice effect of being completely reversible (if you have the context) https://github.com/JSON8/patch#buildrevertpatch , not true for JSON Merge Patch

JSON Merge Patch patches can be translated to JSON Patch easily https://github.com/JSON8/merge-patch#tojsonpatch

https://github.com/JSON8/patch

https://github.com/JSON8/merge-patch

There is also https://github.com/ottypes/json0 which looks interesting and support more operations and string patches.

Well there is Servo https://github.com/servo/servo and

Regarding Pwn2Own it seems that Firefox would be in the competition again once electrolysis (one process per tab) is introduced.

One could argue that self-driving cars potentially consume less energy by driving more efficiently than humans.
