> Of particular note is the “remux” community, dedicated to seamlessly stitching together the best video and audio streams from different releases without any generational loss of quality.
That’s not what “remux” means. A remux is the original data from, for instance, a Blu-ray disc, transferred into a new container without re-encoding. What the author is referring to would be called a “hybrid remux”.

i would genuinely rather read the rough draft before it got turned into this slop. it would be messier, maybe, but it’d have actual human insight and direction.
it doesn’t even need to be particularly fresh. for the purposes of this map, it could update just once or twice a decade with no real value loss to anyone using it.

I always read it as “[disk|data] destroyer”, because that’s what it’ll do if you’re not careful.
what’s wrong with a 15-minute city?
So people will be more likely to think twice before using Cursor, Copilot et al? Good. I think they should.
Your comparison to torture and sabotage is unfounded to the point of being simply bizarre.
What exactly is the problem with having an opinion? People are allowed to have opinions. People working in a field are allowed and even expected to have opinions on that field’s current state and goings-on.
Your opinion, if I had to guess, is that generative “AI” can be good and useful. My opinion is that it’s an insult to humanity that causes considerable harm and should not be used. These are both valid opinions to have, although they disagree with each other.
Don’t fall into the trap of “I’m objectively correct, everyone else just has opinions”.
There’s nothing wrong with judgment. Judging someone’s character based on whether they use generative “AI” is a valid practice. You may not like being judged, but that’s another matter entirely.

not washing the rice is generally a bad idea even disregarding this factor, because the texture of the rice will come out quite wrong.
i’ve wanted to play KSP with telemetry visualisation and basic remote commands only for a while. i guess that makes me a masochist, but you could say the same of enjoying KSP at all.
You can absolutely solve 1000 captchas in a day. If we say it takes 10 seconds on average to solve a captcha, that’s 10.000 seconds for 1000 captchas, or just under 3 hours.
What is it about the people that started it that puts you off?
unfortunately this one expands past my viewport on mobile in all directions and then doesn’t let me scroll horizontally or vertically. i think it’s a pity, considering that even an extremely barebones HTML layout is responsive by default (Motherfucking Website et al.)
> after all some normal passenger airports are a few thousand feet above sea level
The parent commenter is referring to airports at high elevations. They mean to say that opening the doors is almost impossible at cruising altitude, which is far above any airports. Hence, the doors can only be opened when not on the ground during early ascent and late descent.
I hope my explanation makes sense.
> “If somebody came back and said, ‘Your science is bad,’ I think the United States would listen,” Treadwell told the media. “But I don’t think science is bad. I think we’ve had very good science.”
This is a very strange way to say nothing. Why is this guy talking to the media?
My understanding of the controversy around this project and/or its developer:
- The repository, as well as some of the dev’s other projects, contained furry porn. I believe this has since been removed from Thorium.
- The Thorium website also contained an archive of a different website that existed to dissuade people from infant circumcision. In my view, this is a justified viewpoint, though I know not everyone may agree. Regardless of your stance on it, though, I think we can all agree that this is neither a relevant or professional thing to include in a browser project, /nor child pornography/. CP accusations are extremely serious and I have seen no evidence to suggest they’re justified.
All in all, it appears that what started as a small pet project, along with the dev’s personal views and quirks, quickly gained traction amongst others who were then taken aback by seeing content they didn’t expect. I can’t comment on the value of Thorium from a technical perspective, but it seems a shame to spread misinformation about a developer who doesn’t seem to have done anything particularly reprehensible.
This is all my present understanding. If I’ve missed anything, I’d welcome corrections.
funny little chatbot. i was able to cheer it up by telling it a joke and wishing it a happy christmas. made me smile a bit.
not exactly an unbiased or referenced report, either.
submitted using an archived link. the original is still up but the images don’t load. the archive preserves the chicken and the box in their full glory.

i think i recall reading somewhere that apple designed the mouse in the way they did in order to prevent people just leaving the mouse on charge 24/7 and hence not using its wireless capability while negatively affecting the battery.
i’m not saying i agree with apple’s decision, but i find the perspective interesting.

i have respect for people who can ask these seemingly-dumb but valid and good-faith questions, knowing that they may be judged for it. we all have gaps in our knowledge.
I have a combination oven that I bought from MediaMarkt (European electronics retailer) a few months ago, since the small studio I live in didn’t come with one. It has microwave, grill, convection and standard heating options. The controls aren’t particularly intuitive but it works fine and seems to be of decently high quality.
