Re:Qwen 3.8 27B on my laptop can interpret model weights, too on Tuesday November 03, 2026 @03:18PM (#50357606)
Can you tell a little more about your software setup? Been playing with local AI models but struggle to get anything as easy as ChatGPT or Claude. I have a folder with skills, and I can switch between ChatGPT and Claude, and either will do the same work. I’m struggling to find something that can do that locally
Re:Nix: An idea whose time has come on Saturday February 19, 2022 @08:55AM (#30397136)
Except with nix it doesn’t make it weird. If you delete iwd and something stops working, then you can just roll back to the previous generation of the nix store that included iwd.
Didn’t read the article, but why would you go work at a lower end job when you can make 80-90% of what you would make by just collecting unemployment benefits?

I personally know at least 2 people that admitted this and said they would wait until unemployment benefits expire to seek work.

Re:The Inheritance Tax Is Far Too Low on Wednesday June 24, 2020 @12:04PM (#23629600)
I've never understood why the government thinks that just because someone has died, they deserve 40+% of money that has already been taxed.
These statements are so true. When our company had billing issues with in-app purchases, there were plenty of times that we wanted to refund people for their purchases and we had no way to do this on both Apple and Amazons platforms. We had to send them to Apple and Amazon customer service and we never knew if they got help or not. Google on the other hand actually made it very easy for us to find someone’s purchase and issue them a refund, but even with Google you are very removed from the customer and can’t directly contact them or find out much about the customer.

Also want to give you a big thank you for creating i3. After using it for a long time I can’t imagine going back to a setup without it. I almost always need 2 windows side by side and it makes that workflow so effortless.
Do you have a source for the 10% of young people needing ventilators?
Re:Why we’re switching to calendar versioning on Sunday April 14, 2019 @10:55AM (#19659749)
This could easily be solved by something along the lines of “Version 3.0 maintains full compatibility with Version 2.2” at the top of their release notes.

I dislike the idea of going away from SemVer just for marketing purposes. At least as a user when I’m going to upgrade versions then I could see that “oh, this version doesn’t break compatibility”

Re:Do I really need to get out the soldering-iron again? on Sunday December 09, 2018 @12:06PM (#18641874)
I disagree with you. When you “owned” a physical cd, you had to ability to sell it. When you own the digital version it is not possible to resell it.
Re:Apple Reports Fourth Quarter Results on Thursday November 01, 2018 @09:12PM (#18359954)
Amazon really missed the boat when they came out with their crappy phone attempt. They could have invested more money and made some decent hardware instead of trying to do something gimmicky. They still haven't really learned though by launching poorly designed Kindle Fires with low res screens that lag a bunch. I wonder how different it would be if Amazon had launched a device like the Pixel as a phone.
Re:Windows 1803 Update Turns on SSH on Thursday May 17, 2018 @10:25PM (#17098182)
Just wanted to thank you for this answer. I never knew about OpenSSH escape sequences and I've used ssh for years.

This is really exciting to see! I had assumed that they would be launching most new instance types with only EBS storage so this is awesome that it looks like this will be coming to even more instance types too.

The bottom of the article mentions "PS – We will be adding local NVMe storage to other EC2 instance types in the months to come, so stay tuned!"

I had 35 HVM instances that didn’t have forced downtime. There are other reasons a machine could need to be brought out of service.
So this sounds like this Intel bug will not impact performance on HVM instances.
In your scenario, what happens if you need to change strong_master_password? I’m assuming you now need to change every password on every single site or else remember your new strong password and your old.
Re:iMac Pro Available Now on Sunday December 17, 2017 @11:31AM (#15946358)
That’s interesting, my company in Chatt only pays $160/month for 270 Mbps and a static IP
Re:iMac Pro Available Now on Thursday December 14, 2017 @09:28AM (#15922430)
Are there really people willing to pay $5,000 for a computer built in to a monitor? If you want to run 2 screens, then they won’t match.

RE: converting iTunes gift cards to Apple store cards.

I’ve never heard of anyone being able to do this, iTunes gift cards can very easily be obtained for +20% off of face value and the same cannot be said for Apple store cards.

Re:Advent of Code 2017 on Thursday November 30, 2017 @10:33AM (#15816475)
Have really enjoyed this the last couple years! Wish that this would open at a more reasonable time for the east coast folks.
Re:AWS Fargate – Run Containers Without Managing Infrastructure on Wednesday November 29, 2017 @12:16PM (#15808620)
Thanks! I must have missed that bit about us-east-1 only
Re:AWS Fargate – Run Containers Without Managing Infrastructure on Wednesday November 29, 2017 @12:11PM (#15808555)
Is this available today? I thought that's what I heard, but I'm not seeing anything in the AWS console.
Re:Amazon EC2 Service Level Agreement on Monday November 20, 2017 @01:45PM (#15742090)
Considering amazon is always available according to their status page, this shouldn’t be too hard to meet.

For the record, I’m running in us-west-2 and have barely had any issues in the past 3+ years but I do wish they were more transparent with their status.

Re:Extending per-second billing in Google Cloud on Tuesday September 26, 2017 @07:32PM (#15343583)
The only thing that you have to do to satisfy this requirement is don’t hardcode IPv4 addresses in your app. If you are using domain names for everything then it doesn’t matter if those are only resolvable to v4 addresses.
It's amazing how well kids adapt when expectations are set and they know them.

We used to let the kids watch an iPad in the car and there was always fighting because everyone wanted to watch different shows. So we took the iPad out of the car and now the kids only have books to read in the car. Since we did that car rides have been so much better.

Re:Opening a plane door mid-flight on Saturday July 15, 2017 @12:12PM (#14777379)
Assuming that this was a mental breakdown, what can we as a society do to help these people or prevent this from happening? I imagine that the consequences for this will be quite severe, and I also imagine that many people know someone that could have had a mental breakdown like this and done something like this.
Re:Found a heap of BTC. What do I do? on Tuesday July 11, 2017 @09:59PM (#14749638)
Genuinely curious as a TurboTax user, what are some of the ways your accountant has helped you save money on taxes that you would have missed on TurboTax?
Re:Google Cloud Prediction API End of Life on Monday May 15, 2017 @01:46PM (#14343511)
One thing that I find so amazing about AWS (Amazon Web Services) is that I'm not aware of them ever EOLing one of their apis (I could be wrong). We still have a bunch of code that still uses SimpleDB and even though they haven't promoted SDB for a while, they haven't EOLed it.
Re:Ask HN: What are your app monetisation strategies? on Sunday March 19, 2017 @04:33PM (#13909449)
If it costs $2 to acquire a user but your Lifetime Value (LTV) of a user is only $1.50, then you are just spending money you will never earn back.
Re:Ask HN: Is S3 down? on Tuesday February 28, 2017 @02:01PM (#13756662)
We're in US-West-2 and not seeing any issues. Are the instances behind your ELB trying to access S3 in their application logic?
