Not suggesting something is not lying.
Maybe we should not use analogies? Just call them secret-text and public-text.

The README is actually much better. Before AI it was three sentences or a placeholder template and you were complaining how nobody writes decent documentation. Now that the README actually describes what the project is all about you don't read it because "it's AI slop".

I would find out the reason they throw the fruit away before eating them.
Re:Don't Paste the AI, please on Thursday August 20, 2026 @09:10AM (#49374143)
I don't see why I should have to "uglify" or compress needlessly the perfectly distilled analysis, just because people associate perfect formatting and details with AI slop.

Not all AI content was created with one prompt.

Reality is most likely self-consistent, but as we can only experience a tiny part of it it‘s impossible to tell. Also, parts of reality may appear to be contradictory with each other when some pieces are not known.
Why is something this important not tested with every build?
Re:LibreOffice – Let's put an end to the speculation on Sunday April 05, 2026 @05:21PM (#47653996)
Over 50 years' time that's $4980.
There is also a middle ground. You don’t have to prepend your message with several sentences of fluff, but asking a question instead of stating your message can be much better receives. Just stating facts may sound like an accusation and especially if your analysis is not correct it makes your message poorly received.
Re:"Car Wash" test with 53 models on Monday February 23, 2026 @11:23PM (#47132836)
The question does not specify where you or the car are. It specifies only that the car wash is 50 meters away from something, possibly you, the car, or both.
You can set grub to select the lastly selected menu entry.
Re:Some thoughts on personal Git hosting on Wednesday September 10, 2025 @10:56AM (#45198726)
I self-host a git site to keep my code private and to integrate an issue tracker. The maintenance effort is very low. I'm running Gitea on my local network Ubuntu server.
Autocleaning: get the last accessed time from a file and only auto-clean files not accessed in the last n hours, e.g. 24 hours? Should be reasonably safe.

The information is transferred through a method called "communication" by another human.

What kind of response would have satisfied you?
Imagine that instead of a forced "Children" account your Netflix would show an account "Thomas" (or any other name which is not yours or your family members') you cannot get rid of. Would that not annoy you one bit? And if not, you cannot emphasize with people who are annoyed by that?

You can create dedicated, already verified objects to pass on to your record. E.g. AllowedDate (extends Date).
Re:FreeBSD 13.4-Release Announcement on Tuesday September 17, 2024 @05:03AM (#41565821)

To leave Malta. I was interrogated by a member of Israel Defense Forces, though.
Using two passports is not always the solution. As a dual citizen of two countries, I also have two passports. A couple of years ago I travelled to Malta with the passport from the country I currently live in. One week later I flew over to Israel, where I used the passport of my birth country. I was extensively interrogated at the border, because apparently the system flagged me to the border officer as there was no record of me entering Malta with the passport I attempted to leave the country with.

Re:What Is a Personal User Manual? on Thursday June 20, 2024 @04:36AM (#40736375)
It's absurd to expect people to adjust their communication timing based on each contact's preferences, when the recipient can simply adjust their communication devices to block and filter messages/calls according to their preferences. That way each person only has to do the work once, compared to having to remember each of maybe dozens or hundreds of people's preferences.
Re:Giving a Shit as a Service on Sunday October 29, 2023 @11:52AM (#38059714)
In my experience caring too much is often perceived as a negative, especially if the other party does not care that much but just wants to get the job done. Asking questions and god forbid, pushing back just makes you a difficult person.
Some of Germany's largest online newspapers, like Bild (https://www.bild.de/) demand either that you subscribe to their online paper or consent to all cookies. As far as I see there is no way to reject the cookies.
Re:Is this fraud? And if so, to what extent am I responsible? on Saturday September 16, 2023 @04:29PM (#37538409)
Or not lie and possibly not get fired? Surely better than lie and having the sword of Damocles hanging over his head for a long time, either because of part-taking in fraud or (indirect) blackmailing from the boss expecting more lies or other dishonest actions as a consequence.
Re:What Happened to Vivaldi Social? on Saturday July 29, 2023 @05:20PM (#36924756)
You could have the first column indicate the type of value and the second column the value. If you now have your columns named "a" and "b" you could have the first column named "type" only allowing values "a" or "b" and the second column would be "value" where the actual value is stored.
Re:Ask HN: Long term local physical backup media? on Monday June 12, 2023 @02:31PM (#36298631)
You could use M-DISCs, which look like traditional CDs nut are made for long-term storage and should be readable much longer than other CDs, DVDs and Blu-rays. The optical drives for burning M-DISCs are readily available and not very expensive.
