Re:Millennials Killed the Mayonnaise Industry (2018) on Monday December 06, 2021 @08:09PM (#29467996)
I read this whole shitty article and nowhere is there a convincing argument that mayonnaise consumption is even down. So I decided to double check the work of the journalist (quite necessary in this age) and discovered it up year over year.

The author of this piece just lied to us all.

It’s month over month actually.
At our current rate it’s only slightly over 100% inflation for the next year. Really it’s no big deal.
Luckily Tor is set to keep the same guard relay basically forever so attacks are much easier.

It works great on my Thinkpad. I run it on the metal.

I can get 8 solid hours of battery on my t42p with tlp and the schedutil governor. I also have a script that unloads the modules for certain hardware I might not be using that often. This is with one of those new Chinese batteries.

Absolutely beautiful machine. I am pretty sure it’s the greatest laptop ever built.

Oh please do this for my t42!

Great tear down but I’m more of a TDA1541 man myself.
New vehicles are already totally loaded with spyware and telemetry. Everybody bent over without a thought, they will for this, too.

Time to buy another classic Toyota I guess.

GM is a strategic resource, so this only makes sense. I’m a little shocked they didn’t have second sources for their chips here in the US already.

This is a terrible idea.

Yikes, Pidgin was nothing like this in my experience. Rock solid for months at a time. Maybe you pushed the wrong button? What are the details of the platform you were trying to run it on?
Just a week after Bill Gates warned us? What are the odds?
My extended family has opted out of holiday spending for many years now. It’s just not sensible to buy things we don’t want or need, and we’re not low income. Plus it’s a good way to stick it to the big firms who moved their factories overseas.

If I need a product made overseas I just buy it direct from China, which always saves money. End-arounding the nominally US companies who just take the moron cut is everybody’s duty.

Just a quick question - do you work for or contract with Microsoft or their contractors? Because the whole Internet basically disagrees with your take here.
Retasked obviously.

Re:Forth vs Lisp on Thursday November 18, 2021 @02:06AM (#29262846)
X86 forth is brilliant. I just got the GA144 dev board - I have a product in mind and I used several forths in the last year. X86 forth among them.
The tools are claimed to be Free with a capital F, is this really true?
Re:Power Fx: open-source now available on Thursday November 18, 2021 @01:39AM (#29262666)
Just run it in a VM, no random reboots to hold you hostage.

This is neat but how is it low-code?
Re:ASCII Video Player on Thursday November 11, 2021 @01:02PM (#29190943)
QuickTime used to have an ascii output, like 20 years ago!

Re:Which version of JDK should I use? on Sunday October 10, 2021 @04:01PM (#28821497)
Since Oracle took over we’ve had a release every few months. That’s terrible. It should be a few weeks, at most.
Re:Which version of JDK should I use? on Sunday October 10, 2021 @03:57PM (#28821461)
Java is way better than .net, which nobody at all uses outside MS. Certainly not in enterprise.
Didn’t this site start as a jobs and PR board for investment properties owned by venture capitalists?
UEFI was a huge mistake, Open Firmware was all we needed.
