Re:What happens if Japan takes in zero immigrants? on Friday June 05, 2026 @12:33PM (#48414876)
It's perfectly natural for a country to experience periods of growth and decline. Demographic and economic cycles rise and fall over time, and a period of contraction does not mean growth won't return in the future.

What isn't reversible is losing a country's identity. As a foreigner, I'd rather see Japan remain Japan than become a messy cultural mix, like Europe.

Re:Meta's memo to employees rolling back DEI programs on Friday January 10, 2025 @02:40PM (#42659293)
Not really true. We have been asked to hire women in our team. Thankfully we found an amazing person. But other teams were not so lucky. It was pure nonsense.

Re:The Ancient Indian Buddhist Monk Buried in Athens on Tuesday March 28, 2023 @12:57AM (#35336106)
Not true. Unless you learn Sanskrit, you cannot understand that the language can communicate multi[le dimensions of meanings. Ofcourse, it is not needed rudimentary things like physics, chemistry etc.

Ofcourse, Sanskrit can be used like English too. That is like using a super computer as a calculator.

Caste system itself was introduced in India by Portuguese in the 15th century.

Too much centralization. Centralization is bound to fail eventually. It happened.
Amazon is highly irresponsible company. It wastes so much packaging for each shipment.
As a citizen, if I get laid off, I get a severance package and support from the state. It is ok if I get laid off. Temporary inconvenience, but family doesn't need to suffer. It is not the case for H1B visa holders.

If H1B visa holder gets laid off, they need to find a job in 60 days. That is a lot of stress. Suppose they find a in different state, they need to move. This is stress for the family and children as well. In the worst case, they may need to leave the country. It is harder, because they need to sell all their properties, move the stuff and relocate the family in an extremely short period of time. I think the H1B rules are draconian.

IMHO, H1B must be reformed or abolished. In the current form, it only benefits big companies to hire great talent for cheap and keep under their control. Similar to bonded labour.

Re:Queen Elizabeth II has died on Thursday September 08, 2022 @05:50PM (#32772526)
Why do you need a queen in 21st century?

Can't the Brits abolish royalty, how they abolished slavery?

This is not the full set of events as it happened.
There were plenty. But I think they were deleted now.
There is a name for it, democracy.
Re:Ask HN: What exactly is a mindfulness meditation? on Sunday July 03, 2022 @03:29AM (#31965828)
Not really sure what "medidation" means. But the word "Dyan" is clearly defined. There are many types of "Dyans". But, all theory is useless without a Guru.

No amount of googling will not find a Guru. It is your intense desire to find a "Guru" will attract you towards the "Guru".

Re:The dissolution of Apple’s legacy design team on Sunday June 19, 2022 @02:36AM (#31796753)
It could mean there are more than one.
Industrial farming is a wrong idea.
True. As a original developer of code, it protects the original author and the real user. However the middlemen (companies who make money using others code) may not like this.

Re:Tea – the toolkit that builds the Internet on Wednesday March 23, 2022 @12:08PM (#30779935)
please license brew/tea to enterprises. Most of them are willing to pay for license, if the developers ask for it. It can be opensource, but add some licensable features that company will pay for.
Re:Windows needs a change in priorities on Monday March 21, 2022 @10:59AM (#30754878)
The best way to make windows better, is, "stop using windows". That is the only way.
It is published from UK. Probably a fake news story.
Re:Open-Sourcing our Firmware on Friday January 21, 2022 @09:59PM (#30032891)

Knowledge and education should be free of cost and barriers. Any society that thinks otherwise, will not be able to sustain and expand knowledge in the long run.
Re:Tell HN: Salary data is for sale on Friday January 07, 2022 @12:16AM (#29835268)
If all employees share their salary information with each other, it becomes a headache for the employer. Each employee may quote the other person's salary demanding a raise.

This is the reason behind the "keep your data confidential" idea.
