Re:Ask HN: Should source files always end in a new line? on Saturday September 24, 2022 @10:44AM (#32963069)
I mean, I’ve found it very interesting to see different pros of ending a file in a new line I would have never even considered.

Pro: ???

Con: Your file is 1 byte larger.

The flu vaccine?
Do widgets not provide any utility to consumers?
Re:1950 Census on Sunday April 03, 2022 @08:09AM (#30896264)
Compared to 1940census, this is a much more useful tool, with the ability to search by name. I wish the same feature set were applied to prior censuses!
But they're calling it a third sex because it's due to "normal expression of the species' genes", not because of hermaphroditism.
My thoughts are it could create clothes or furniture that will last longer fashion-wise.

Any of your clothes or furniture look out of style? Just download a new style online!

Re:Ask HN: Who wants to collaborate? on Saturday January 01, 2022 @11:20AM (#29759812)
I would think that actually thinking about and defining everything that a Trello clone to do would take more than 10 minutes... Are you imagining a "software requirements" -> "product" compiler type of deal? Or what do you envision the workflow would look like?
My thoughts exactly. According to the Moderna pipeline [0], they're already on phase II trials for their cancer vaccine, which to me seems much more exciting than a proof-of-concept if that's what this is.

Why not just tell ALL the students they’re advanced?
Yes, here's my set for Spanish Vocab: https://myvoicecards.com/set?id=2703f284-754e-4fe8-ad6c-92f6...

Still very rough, but I'm accepting feature requests and suggestions! Email in bio.

OTOH, I think this position is relevant only from the perspective of new scientific inquiry — it’s worth asking questions that have already be asked when learning / acquiring knowledge! Sure, someone could find this information on Google, but misinformation too, so I think it’s worth asking in this sort of environment so we can all more deeply understand existing theory, etc.

Good point, I guess that’s a good argument to use taxes for supporting healthcare.
I would say yes, obligatory vaccination is a reduction of an individual's liberty. But, doesn't NOT getting vaccinated also diminish the liberty of all other individuals in society (i.e. The right to life), much like how the same principles of liberty are applied to outlawing murder? (The freedom to murder is diminished, but the right to be alive is increased)
Re:The architecture behind a one-person tech startup on Thursday April 08, 2021 @09:33AM (#26738479)
Do you mean taking a company public without any co-founders and employees, or starting originally with none, then later taking some on?

If the latter, I would think Dropbox would count, since at least originally it was a single founder.

But it gratifies my intellectual curiosity.
Re:The sources of misinformation that thrived in Parler on Friday January 15, 2021 @10:24PM (#25799749)
Obviously both are important, but I would at least thing that approaching an issue from a rational mind (not angry, etc.) would help one arrive at truth much more quickly.
Re:The sources of misinformation that thrived in Parler on Friday January 15, 2021 @10:17PM (#25799700)
> The question we need to be asking is whether we should banish certain ideas to an echo chamber that the rest of us have no incentive to enter, or whether we should allow free expression of all ideas — no matter how repulsive — so rational minds may finally have an opportunity to prevail

Has the free expression of all ideas through current means allowed rational minds to prevail? It seems that the status quo has failed to facilitate rational discussion.

And what sort of metric would we use to evaluate the success of a community to have rational discussion?

Re:How Texas Can Become the Next Silicon Valley on Thursday December 31, 2020 @10:38AM (#25593598)
One think to look at which may be more closely related to newer startups is that several VC firms have started to move to Texas. It could definitely drive the growth of more small startups WITHIN Texas.

Actually, I was just able to connect right now – must have been a local network issue.

Can I get a link to the Medarxiv paper? Would be an interesting read.
Re:Biden wins White House, vowing new direction for divided U.S. on Saturday November 07, 2020 @03:40PM (#25019061)
Weren’t the main concessions made to Southern slaveholders items like the 3/5 compromise? The senate’s distribution on the other hand would benefit states like Rhode Island, New Jersey, etc...
