Re:Ask HN: How do I stop comparing myself to others? on Saturday November 07, 2015 @04:08AM (#10524240)
Compare yourself with your own self, but several years younger. Have you achieved something notable? Did you just now noticed that you did something wrong before? Then you're all right - you're growing.
Stalin was a Hitler's ally no more than a person, yielding to a ransom demand from a kidnapper. His one and main purpose was to delay Germany attack on USSR, to prepare for war as good as it was possible. Anything else would be a suicide.

It's just a part of massive denigration campaign.

Done, the mail is sent.
Interesting – I was thinking about the storyboard myself. Since I'm no visual artist at all, maybe I could find such a person, who can help me visualize this story. Thanks for your answer.
That is a good advice, and I was thinking roughly in that direction myself. I'll try to make it work, thanks.
Actually I've tried to buy an option first, before writing the script. And after I was denied, I decided to write it and try to find and convince somebody with an influence in the area to help me buy this option. I'm sure that the option is available, they just don't want to sell it to somebody they don't know. And I thought that it would be easier to convince somebody, if I have something to show to them. I've asked this here because by my observation there's a lot of different smart people here with totally different areas of expertise, and even if someone wouldn't help me right away, he can tell me in which direction I can look. Like you just did, pointing me to the donedealpro.com It's very nice of you to offer your time to review my work, and I'll send it to you right away. Thank you for the answer.
Yes, I understand that if someone owns the option, that's it. At least, until they fail to produce the show in time and option will close. And after they told me that option was sold to someone, I've asked the agency to provide me with the buyer's contacts, or even give my contacts to the buyer so he could contact me. The facts that not only they didn't tell me that option was already sold right away, but they also denied my request to help me to contact the buyer, made me think that actually they didn't sell anything.

Ask HN: I Want to Make “The Chronicles of Amber” into a TV Series. How?

I am a journalist. I write articles about gadgets, web, science, technology, space, and the like. And I love to read fiction books. My favorite book is the "The Chronicles of Amber" by Roger Zelazny. It's a magnum opus of 10 volumes about life and adventures of a supernatural mythical family. And for a long time I had a dream – to make this book into a movie. And at some point I realized, that...

Tried that, for no avail. I'm not even sure it was about data mining.

Free book at Hacker News some months ago

This is kind of awkward, but several months ago here at the top of Hacker News stories was a link to a free book. I remember that in the book were examples written in two languages (one of them was python), and that book was about smth like data mining or smth similar. Can you help to find it?

Author of this book has committed treason and famous for his pseudo-historical books, that usually paint USSR in blackest colors possible. No serious historian in Russia takes his works seriously. So I'd question anything that written in the book.
Original short story is in Russian and was written in 2011. http://alex-aka-jj.livejournal.com/66984.html

Thought that you copyright lovers ought to know this.

"Freedom score"? Really? Some number, representing "freedom", calculated from the US point of view - it's, how should I put it... Less than impartial. Not to mention method of calculating freedom.
Re:The Mid-Career Crisis of the Perl Programmer on Monday March 10, 2014 @04:32PM (#7375507)
Wrote perl web apps since 1998. Now I'm seriously considering "selling everything and living on a beach in Thailand or Belize for a year". Programming altogether, regardless of the language, lost it's magic touch for me. Sometimes it almost as funny and interesting as it was, but it's just glimpses from the past. Suppose this is what mid-life crisis looks like. Or maybe it's what "burning out" looks like. Worked for my project for the last 8 years now and had too few holidays. Or maybe people do change and I need to do something completely different from now on. I just have to figure out, what exactly I wish to do. It's unpleasant and scary situation with no one to get help from.
