Don't think it's unreasonable. They crawled it and made it available in an easy to digest form. You can't take their copy and start distributing it infinitely while paying them for one-time read. Write your crawler, and crawl the web on your own if you want... and give it away!

Somebody should put up a second, uninteresting, benign bust just to see what happens to it vs Snowden's.
It's a bit disappointing that G10code[1] https identity verification fails. May be it makes sense given that he's short on $$$$.

Re:Craigslist Suing Padmapper on Tuesday July 24, 2012 @11:46PM (#4289267)
I'm getting sick of the general attitude here. A majority of people seem to think that it's OK to copy user posting data from CL, because they are a monopoly. IE is cited as an example of a monopoly, thus anything is OK to take it down.

That attitude is horribly wrong. Agreed, CL is a monopoly. Agreed, they are holding back innovation. But, you don't disrupt a business (and build yours) by copying their data, especially illegally. Although, the legality of issue at hand is up in the air right now, the general attitude is a bit appalling.

What's required is a way for users to post their listings simultaneously at other properties. The content of the postings belongs to the user and they should be free to re-post it anywhere.

The ToS may not mention exclusivity, but the source of data (for Padmapper) is Craigslist. Thus, the clause of "unauthorized copying" applies.

The look and feel of the ad is publisher's responsibility. Can't blame Google for that. Rest, Google gets the blame. Before I get down to that, however, I would be suspicious of the veracity of a publisher who tries to blend the ad and the content so closely.
Re:Poll: What keyboard layout do you use? on Tuesday December 27, 2011 @07:57PM (#3398146)
If it weren't for vim, I would have definitely considered switching. I know you can map keys and all, but, it just doesn't make sense going through all the hassle.

Are there any bi-layouters out there?

Re:How to speed up the Android Emulator by up to 400% on Tuesday October 11, 2011 @06:59PM (#3100785)
This doesn't help much if you are using Google APIs in your Android application. There are no x86 builds available for Google APIs AFAIK.
Re:A First Look at BankSimple on Wednesday September 21, 2011 @02:32PM (#3023160)
Now that I'm getting a better feel of what BankSimple is about, I don't think it's that revolutionary an idea. I'm not even sure I will use it. Most of what they showed, and more can be accomplished using Mint. And, Mint offers more choice by being an aggregator.

He forgot to factor the risk into the equation here. Investors have risk. If the company goes down they lose $500K. How much do you lose $50K?

1% may or may not be less. We definitely need deeper analysis here.

Actually, verification of hosts is not THAT tough and Airbnb already has a solution - "Airbnb verified" photos of the listing. Airbnb offers (in big cities at least) to send a photographer to your address and have him take pictures and upload to your listing page. This verifies to a reasonably decent degree that the person listing the property is the owner too.
