News for hackers. Stuff that matters.

Yes, and it didn't accept them.
I just changed my Jetblue password to contain both a Q and a Z. Seems the support documentation is out of date.
Re:Poll: How many HN iOS users actually use Siri? on Monday June 10, 2013 @05:54PM (#5857490)
I use the dictation feature in email and notes pretty constantly. It's remarkably accurate with zero training needed, and is much faster than typing by hand. Also saves on hand strain.
Re:Pixel art for your Github contribution calendar on Tuesday May 21, 2013 @12:45AM (#5741956)
It's a Python script that takes in some options (which image, your github username, etc) and generates a bash script. Running the bash script actually makes the commits on the correct days to populate the pixels.
Re:Hacker School User's Manual on Wednesday May 01, 2013 @04:10PM (#5640470)
They're a large part of why I've almost entirely stopped reading comments on HN. Too many people more interested in being right than having an actual discussion.
Re:Apply to seventh batch of Hacker School on Monday March 11, 2013 @12:07AM (#5354852)
Let me see if I'm hearing you right:

1) I'm a man, and I don't notice sexism, therefore it doesn't exist.

2) The women I've talked to never told me they experienced discrimination, therefore it doesn't exist.

3) My wife doesn't like programming, therefore all women don't like programming.

4) Being Portuguese is an equivalent status within the technical community as being a woman, and should be treated equivalently.

Is that what you're saying?

Yay! Glad to hear it all got resolved. Be in touch if you hit any more problems. And let us know what you build!
thanks for testing! so glad to hear you like the lessons and are signing up for the APIs!

Could you try the Parse course again? I fixed an issue a few minutes ago that may have cleared up your problem.

And please continue sending in tester reports on the other bugs you mentioned. We & our API partners would love to fix them up.

We launched it a year ago :) http://www.codecademy.com/create/creator

Based on open source repl.it

Good points, thanks for the ideas. Keep an eye on this—today is just day 1!
Great idea—we'd love to host it!
Sorry about that. Could you send me the links and more info? I'll look into it. sasha at codecademy dot com. thanks.
Thanks for the feedback. We'll be sure to make the wording super clear.
Re:I Don't Have Time on Monday October 29, 2012 @11:38AM (#4712753)
True, but you're missing the main thrust of the "I could never do that, I don't have time!" comment.

It's an excuse for not trying. If you don't have time to try, you can't fail.

Re:Codecademy now has Python lessons on Tuesday July 31, 2012 @10:46AM (#4317483)
Glad to hear it; thanks for circling back. what_ever, were you able to have better luck later?
Re:Codecademy now has Python lessons on Monday July 30, 2012 @05:59PM (#4314905)
Nope, it's up. What browser are you using?
Re:Codecademy now has Python lessons on Monday July 30, 2012 @05:03PM (#4314670)
The original link points to a non-official course that is still in beta testing.

Here is the link to the official Python track: http://www.codecademy.com/tracks/python

EDIT: all better now!

Re:Micro-apartments next for S.F.? on Sunday July 15, 2012 @11:26AM (#4247113)
Interesting. This might change the nightlife culture of SF to be more similar to bigger cities. I did a lot of hanging out in friend's houses, cooking, playing games, or having house parties in SF. In NYC, where the apartments are much much smaller, there's a lot less of that—people go out on the town all night and buy $15 drinks instead, and that supports the bars and restaurants than stay open late.

I'm also curious what safety measure they have on those vertical storage units. In an earthquake, all your stuff falling down in front of the door could trap you in your apartment.

Re:On Technical Entitlement on Friday June 29, 2012 @08:57PM (#4179993)
If the problem is something inherent in the male constitution, then why don't we see this disparity across all majors?
Re:Ask HN: How to pass the baby steps in programming? on Sunday May 20, 2012 @02:47PM (#3999654)
This advice is true, but not actionable.
Re:What We've Learned About Teaching Code on Thursday May 10, 2012 @04:00PM (#3955666)
These are excellent ideas! We certainly want users to be able to use what they have learned into real products.

Send me an email—would love to hear about what you're building. sasha at codecademy.com
