Ask HN: Any east bay / Oakland based hackers looking for shared office space?

Im a freelance developer and looking to find some office space to support my work. I currently do most of my work from home but Im starting to tire of spending so much time working at home. Im looking to find some dedicated office space to serve as a healthier alternative to spending so much time in one spot. Ive looked a bit at finding a space on my own but I think if a few developers got...

Re:Register for Google I/O 2011 on Monday February 07, 2011 @03:09PM (#2190442)
holy cow, I was able to re-attach to my fuseaction session and complete the registration! Thanks the awesome tip, highly encourage others who were able to start the process to give it another shot.

Check your history for urls like,

also, student option seems to be gone already for 'attendee type'
Re:Register for Google I/O 2011 on Monday February 07, 2011 @01:01PM (#2189924)
This is kind of frustrating. Been waiting patiently for registration and now that its open Ive been unable to complete the form successfully due to timeouts/503s etc. And now Im hearing its sold out as well? I hope that maybe a non-web registration channel is opened to take sign ups that the site wasnt able to accomodate.
As a developer working w/ a MI based startup this is intriguing. Well see how it plays out but its an encouraging sign for startup's outside of the sv-hub.

In the twitter demo, I noticed this pathological looking string concat statement

Im too dim to figure out why it would be done this way (besides the fact thats its an early proof of concept demo). Any idea?

Re:Ask HN: How to tell quickly if someone is professional? on Sunday October 24, 2010 @05:52PM (#1827426)
Yep, thats why I only use it as a low-res heuristic. Theres no real substitute for spending time with and individual and really getting to know them.
Re:Ask HN: How to tell quickly if someone is professional? on Sunday October 24, 2010 @02:17PM (#1826771)
One of my personal metrics for low resolution professionalism judgement is spin off of the classic "wtf's/min" standard for judging code quality.

My own unit is "Yes's/min". I find that when I'm explaining something to an individual who responds with too many "Yes's/min", that individual is usually (of course not always) not appreciating the nuances of the topic being discussed. Having an alarmingly high amount of certainty around a new or just introduced topic, I find, usually implies a lack of professionalism.

This thread is really inspiring. I havent found anything yet (only posted this morning :) but Im feeling confident that something cool will turn up out of all of the linked resources. The craigslist gigs idea seems like it has potential. For some reason I never considered it.
Re:Ask HN: Resources for finding short term projects? on Sunday July 18, 2010 @05:50PM (#1526816)
hckrn.ws was a class project that I used for getting my hands dirty in some server side js + nosql technologies so it was an opportunity to kill those 2 birds w/ one stone.

whosreppin.me was built for an NPR KQED iPad hackathon event. So it was super simple and streamlined and I used a more familiar set of technologiess (postgres, django) in order to mash something up in a weekend. The neat part is that whosreppin.me shared 1st place w/ one other team.

Re:Ask HN: Resources for finding short term projects? on Sunday July 18, 2010 @04:11PM (#1526612)
Oakland, CA. Oh but I should add I'm ok w/ remote.
Re:Ask HN: Resources for finding short term projects? on Sunday July 18, 2010 @04:11PM (#1526610)
Im mostly interested right now in python web apps and node.js type projects. A couple things I whipped up recently:

whosreppin.me : A site to connect voters with their local reps (django)

hckrn.ws : A mini hacker news targeted for mobile devices (node.js / couchdb)
Is that what you were looking for?
Re:Ask HN: Resources for finding short term projects? on Sunday July 18, 2010 @03:13PM (#1526478)
Great suggestions, thanks everyone! Ill give those a shot (esp. the area specific ones such as djangogigs.com) and report what worked and didn't work for me.
