We should be more ambitious with the how we present our ideas.
Re:Ask HN: What are you working on? (May 2026) on Sunday May 10, 2026 @06:57PM (#48089008)
3 things

- AI assisted academic progress reports so parents can effortless stay on top of kids middle/high school academics. https://www.gpa.coach

- A family economy app where parents set the rules, kids earn credits for chores and good behavior and kids redeem credits for screen time, money, and other benefits. https://www.kredz.app

- AI first fun mobile media editor your parents could use. https://www.mix.photos/

All software teams are busy porting apps to Vision Pro
I would not expect tech writers to understand retention rates of mobile apps, but you can search your way to some [meh] data pretty quickly. This is lazy reporting. https://www.statista.com/statistics/259329/ios-and-android-a...
You mean Apple Vision SE

Show HN: Simple golinks server backed by airtable

https://github.com/skhavari/golinks

Like short codes? Like bookmarks? Have fun with this very simple golinks server. If you haven't heard of golinks, they are short codes to bookmarks. In your browser you type `go/<code>` and it takes you to a bookmark. Eg, `go/hn` or `go hn` (space is easier to type than forward slash) could take you to https://news.ycombinator.com. Happy Holidays!

Re:Laws of Software Estimation for Complex Work on Tuesday December 20, 2022 @12:31AM (#34061943)
My experience on large projects aligns with the overall sentiment of this article. Except

> 10. Breaking all the work down to the smallest details to arrive at a better estimate means you will deliver the project later than if you hadn’t done that.

For very large systems, demystifying whats ahead can be a huge time saver. If you march towards a near term milestone without knowing whats around the corner you run the risk of having to go backwards after the unknown unknowns surface.

The smallest of details may not be necessary but enough visibility to know you're headed down the right path is critical. None of this has anything to do with estimates.

I find these much better questions to ask a prospective employer during a job interview: https://github.com/viraptor/reverse-interview

max $1800/mo isn't much, but maybe helpful for some. https://edd.ca.gov/about_edd/coronavirus-2019.htm

If your employer has reduced your hours or shut down operations due to COVID-19, you can file an Unemployment Insurance (UI) claim. UI provides partial wage replacement benefit payments to workers who lose their job or have their hours reduced, through no fault of their own. Workers who are temporarily unemployed due to COVID-19 and expected to return to work with their employer within a few weeks are not required to actively seek work each week. However, they must remain able and available and ready to work during their unemployment for each week of benefits claimed and meet all other eligibility criteria. Eligible individuals can receive benefits that range from $40-$450 per week.

The Governor’s Executive Order waives the one-week unpaid waiting period, so you can collect UI benefits for the first week you are out of work. If you are eligible, the EDD processes and issues payments within a few weeks of receiving a claim.

Would be nice to see a statement on retransmission vs impact of infection. Seems shortsighted.

If you want to do this without giving your data to any third party (plaid will store your data) or you have 2FA enabled on your FI accounts, try this: https://github.com/skhavari/cheddardog.

It supports a few institutions. If you're a developer, its pretty easy to add more. It generates spending and balance reports, and pretty easy to slap an app (E2E encrypted of course) or local only web UI on top of it.

Enjoy

Yes, they are very powerful and flexible. These frameworks actually payoff and simplify once your project grows beyond a particular size.
Re:CS188 Intro to AI – Course Materials on Monday June 13, 2016 @06:17PM (#11898194)
The Berkeley one is a bit slower and it has a statistics/probability refresher. I found it much easier to follow at 1.5x speed. I'd recommend the Udacity one if your stats/probability knowledge is fresh or if you're re-learning the topics.

A little nicer format - with edited videos (1st half), HW and programming assignments, on edx: https://courses.edx.org/courses/BerkeleyX/CS188x_1/1T2013/in...
