Isn't the solution really easy? Make the students show up on the first day in-person, compare.with ID and take a photo.
Re:One Year After Switching from Java to Go: Our Experiences on Wednesday February 19, 2025 @01:31AM (#43099206)
There are a lot of applications where the startup time of several seconds does not matter at all. More likely, for most applications it does not matter. Of course, if you are FAANG, it does, but you should not optimize for that in the beginning.

Mouse-over over the chart is broken (scrollbar shown and hidden again and again). I believe you dont need to set x-overflow-auto on the div where the scrollbars appear.

From the lead text in the article:

Switzerland has no space for additional "simple roads". It would also be extremely difficult go get it approved, as it would pass through many municipalities. You would have hundreds of objections by residents and probably also a few referendums.
That is a separate, standalone app, not the regular LinkedIn app
Re:Lenovo Forums stores plaintext password as a cookie on Friday April 22, 2022 @10:16AM (#31121825)
And what if the server is compromised in the future? It is trivially to then extract all the cookies and send them to a attacker-controlled server. The attacker then uses those password to try to login on different platforms.

After initially setting a password, the database/server should only store a salted hash.

No exceptions.

And what about all the climate consequences?
The claim in this comment is fake. Check facts. Without emotions.

I doubt that any country could have prevented covid spreading through the world.

"they"? It's an open source software. What exactly do you expect?
Re:Typora 1.0 on Saturday November 27, 2021 @11:31AM (#29361324)
Yeah, that's one side. But how you can guarantee that everyone that uses your software has really a license? It is not an easy problem.

And once, the product is discontinued, they still could release an update disabling the license check.

> The app would assign the order to a free courier, triggering an email. Their Gmail was our mobile app!

I guess, the MVP tracked which couriers are free and also would automatically assign a courier to a new order, depending on who was free.

If you have to send out an e-mail, you have to pick a recipient, therefore you have to know by yourself / look up manually which ones are free...

Re:The Trouble with Checked Exceptions (2003) on Sunday October 10, 2021 @03:29PM (#28821216)
Hejlsberg said it multiple times: Most software developers handle exceptions centrally, e.g. around their event loop.

If an API really throws a new exception which can be handled otherwise than displaying "something went wrong", then I dont think its the task of the programming language. This should be in the release notes.

Re:Twitch is hacked, and its source code leaked on Wednesday October 06, 2021 @03:11PM (#28777030)
I would be very deeply concerned if Twitch, a multi-billion dollar company owned by Amazon, does not properly hash and salt the passwords of its users.
When he mentions Open route serice, I assume none of the route calculations is done by himself, so Optimile is just an UI for Open route service.
what is TUI? or what does it mean?

Off topic: is it just me or is the font of that webpage barely readable on screen?
Re:What's Inside the EU Green Pass QR Code? on Tuesday June 22, 2021 @08:10AM (#27590648)
The official validation apps will not show this detail to the user. Unofficial apps may come up but app stores will probably quickly ban those (they are very careful about the whole COVID topic in the playstores). There is still the chance of sideloading the app, but one does also need to consider if the vaccination information must really be protected that hard. In most countries, it's more or less randomly when and with what kind of vaccine you got vaccinated. And the really important information in my opinion is: is someone vaccinated or not? And this information is what the bouncer needs to know to let you in...
Re:What's Inside the EU Green Pass QR Code? on Tuesday June 22, 2021 @08:03AM (#27590612)
On most ID cards, there is the full name and the birthdate of the person. So it does not matter if it's on the QR code too. The place of residence is neither on the ID card nor on the QR code.
Re:Now your car is a cybersecurity risk, too on Friday May 21, 2021 @05:45AM (#27232099)
You're not the only one driving on the streets and often, other drivers are the greater danger.
1) Nobody reads them. 2) nice, but not useful for further business. 3,4) maybe the contracts would disallow that.
Re:Java Is Underhyped on Friday April 16, 2021 @07:27AM (#26832539)
Despite Oracle being the primary contributors, there are other big companies (IBM, Apple, Microsoft, etc.) [1] supporting OpenJDK. And this are only the big companies, there are so much medium/little companies just using Java as a language without actively sponsoring/supporting the OpenJDK project. IMHO, there is no possible way that the OpenJDK (and Java) arent going to be enhanced further for many many years.

Re:Java Is Underhyped on Friday April 16, 2021 @07:23AM (#26832521)
Java is not only driven by Oracle, there are even independent JVMs. And then, there is OpenJDK, which is supported by many different big companies (Oracle, IBM, Apple, Microsoft, etc.) [1] As long as you are just _using_ the JDK, I see no problem regarding that Oracle may sue you. And besides that, I see no problems about Oracle _owning_ Java (idk if you really can say that Oracle _owns_ Java, I mean OpenJDK is open-source and free).
No, that's what 5G enables but 5G itself is something else.
Re:Zero Data App on Saturday March 06, 2021 @06:38AM (#26366758)
The name is imho inappropriate chosen. Under zero data, I understand that the app needs no data at all.
