I also got that information before your post. I believe an embargo is impossible to keep up when it takes way too long to get a fix out.
Nintendo has been really pissing away the indie developer scene.
They basically shut down since release any way for indie game developers to get involved in developing Switch 2 games. So i appreciate this jailbreak.
I hope they didn't implement web search themselves and are using bing api or so under the hood.
apple, here is your killer app for this awkward thing ;)
We have Ai that can solve any math problem or any technical problem. But we don't have AI that can write naturally like a human. Turns out the purest human intelligence is something no Ai could ever reach. We invented in the past century things like measuring intelligence with iq tests only to realise what kind of bullshit this idea turns out to be in 2026. Turns out we had the wrong mental model of what constitutes intelligence and built machines with super intelligence only in a very narrow sense of the term. We need to radically redefine our idea what human intelligence is.
I have some advice for Jack. Buy a shaver and get a clean face, then those jobs will come.
You're missing the obvious. Time. There are highly talented developers who have the technical ability but had no time in the past to do these things because of real life obligations besides their job. Many are producing 10x more valuable output now. Also you're missing that Anthropic as a leading frontier lab isn't a good comparison for almost any metric for any other company in the world. It defies any principles companies usually have like unlimited talent supply.
> Anthropic has been hiring for a smaller share of junior technical positions.
I don't wanna be the guy calling out the lie or slop but when did Anthropic hire in the last two years for junior roles? OAI and Anthropic could literally hire seamlessly the best of the best worldwide for every job they advertise without having the need to think about the poor juniors.
Christ, every day in tech is getting more absurd than the previous.
At least one positive outcome from this administration :)
That's already happening. The public models aren't anything like their internal models.
What else should we do? It's not like we had any choice.
I think you're slightly wrong. It's not prices, it's not logistics. Amazon dominates because they have the power & money to do the one single thing their competiton couldn't do without going out of business: No-questions-asked returns. 9 out of 10 people i ask this is the single reason they stay at Amazon.
They likely refer to a classic landline phone..
> I often think about how crazy it must have been to be a game developer around this period.
We're living again in this period of time were it must have been crazy to be a developer ;)
Replace the word "software engineer" from this essay with "medical doctor" and the message doesn't change a bit. Replace it instead with "lumberjack" and then you get an better idea what blue-collar work actually is...
So three important data centers strategically chosen to be destroyed? As far as i know such an loss couldn't even Google compensate, let alone Yandex. This could severely impact their economy for months.
They may or may not. I wouldn't like to take on this bet.
Software isn't disappearing - Code is. The craft is more craft than ever and more powerful.
> Nobody will feel sorry for software devs
Software has always been a different kind of creative trade where if you stopped learning and embracing the trends you would get crushed sooner or later - if you just wanted decent paychecks until the end of time and protection by the sheer weight of your academic degree and years of "experience" then software development wasn't the best path forward.
But it often payed better than entry engineering or math jobs therefore many switched to software - although they would have been almost certainly happier staying a profession not so dependent on adapting yearly trends to this extreme.
This was the first major lesson i got taught almost 20 years ago here. It was also around that time where i realized most software professionals never belonged in this creative trade camp but still got a lifelong career out of being more or less disconnected with the trends.
They were doing year for year the almost same tasks and collecting paychecks. Which is totally fine as long as there was more demand for writing code than qualified professionals hirable. The trope of ageism in software and silicon valley is as old as hacker news. But there was still some touch of truth to it - you wanted the best developers who never stopped learning, knew that code isn't the goal and didn't think their years of experience are worth anything three years from now on in a profession that's about trends solving business needs and less about formal engineering.
It's depressing. Those in denial are really difficult to work with now.. they have a hard time adapting to such fundamental changes but their denial leads to sabotaging the adaption efforts of the rest. The other half like you mentioned is only slowly cracking up like still trying to grasp that this ai thing isn't some new tool you will have mastered in a few days. There are right now only very few people who have mastered state of the art ai development and they would like to work with only those also in this camp because it's so depressing to watch the majority of developers wrestling to find their spot in this new world.
> The prophecies that begin with "X years from now,..." - never happen.
Don't worry from now, this one already happened. Ignorance is bliss.
As someone old enough to experience it as a kid: We tried to figure out what the heck this weird game was about until giving up and moving on with life.
The most important problems in our world are currently discussing how to reduce the feeling of stress and pain from our beloved ai (Anthropic) or solving all unsolved mathematical riddles in existence and putting them into a github repo and mathematicians out of job (OAI). So chill.
I liked the triple-a minesweeper better than the windows original. First time i won the game.
You seem to deliberately mislead readers...
Reading this discussion about how software feels pain - wants me to delete my HN account and never look back at the tech scene. Feels like trapped in an Asylum.
So get out and talk to the lady at the bar? Didn't work out either for you? The problem isn't about too many man on dating apps.. it's about men believing society owns them a woman.
Linkedin is the performative professionals social network. 100% shallowness in every interaction. Yet we all do it because that's how we've done it in the past.
