Re:Why do I lose my passion and want to do nothing? on Monday August 31, 2026 @11:04AM (#49510650)
I think I can help you find a good answer to this but I don't have enough data (one sentence statement is not enough). If you want to have a call and dive into this, feel free to email me: [email protected]

In general, the direction I would explore is: it's not about AI, it's about something in the way your perceive AI. For example, maybe you value (some part of) the process. AI is about short-circuiting the (creative) process, so that may make making things feel pointless.

This is just one assumption, there are probably many more dimensions and variables at play. Maybe you read some perspectives about AI (and/or AI safety) that triggered something in your values about the creative process. Or maybe you want to create via a specific way of collaboration, which is no longer viable. As I said, we (and you) would need more to understand.

Have you ever thought about making your values explicit? Here's a PDF that has a list of values to assess between important and not important:

(I like this PDF because it includes definitions.)

Added some benchmarks for which I am quite proud of 5.6 Sol writing the performance improvements: https://nvnv.yoga/#performance

Whoah there is nvEnvy! If I knew, I probably wouldn't make nvnv :D

Link here: https://nvenvy.app/

And yes, I don't think nvUltra will ever come, but I have zero interest for it now. I never wanted all the new features anyway. Just wanted an nvALT that works great and is kept up to date with the macOS SDKs.

Mataroa is the most efficient word per CSS rule after HN, I concur.

Inspiring! I just asked Cursor to make llmwrap inspired by this, it's like rlwrap (readline wrap) but with LLMs!

Free software is about freedom. Restricting it from anyone means it's not free. There is no requirement that we must create free software but if it's called free I think it should always have the basic qualities of freedom; not only when it fits our purposes and our values.

Re:Bear is now source-available on Tuesday September 02, 2025 @02:40AM (#45099809)
Maybe unfairly but quite disappointed at this development.

This sentence crystalises open source:

> "Unfortunately over the years there have been cases of people forking the project in the attempt to set up a competing service."

You make something for everyone. And they may use it as they please. This is what open means. Did the author make something open source with the hope that nobody would actually use the gift that they made?

Mataroa [1] also started with MIT license (directly inspired by bear blog) and it subsequently changed as well but to Affero GPL instead.

Re:Peter Thiel and the Antichrist on Thursday June 26, 2025 @03:27PM (#44390469)
I seem to be liking Peter Thiel's ideas more and more. I found this conversation quite fascinating. It feels like he is focused, intentional, clearheaded, well-read. I disagree with a lot of his premises, but if we want to take technological progress seriously, I find Peter Thiel amongst the few sensible voices in Silicon Valley.

For example, it's quite common in a discussion for people to not really listen but just jump from one topic to another just so they can have more space to speak. I like this part where Peter subtly calls out Ross on this:

> Thiel: We’re jumping around a lot of things. So, again, the critique I was saying is: They’re not ambitious enough.

I loved the Antichrist-Armageddon analogy too:

> But I think we have an answer to this plot hole. The way the Antichrist would take over the world is you talk about Armageddon nonstop. You talk about existential risk nonstop, and this is what you need to regulate.

Funnily enough I said my native language is Greek but then it responded with an error and reset my onboarding guide. Then, I lied that my native language is English, which worked. But now it calls me Anton, rather than the name I said I have!
