Re:Ask HN: Which TV do you recommend for privacy? on Sunday November 01, 2026 @11:27PM (#50333106)
That hasn't been my experience so far.
IQ is a useless metric for intelligence.
I disagree. There is a huge difference between web host data centers and hyperscale compute data centers. It's disingenuous to use the same term to refer to both of these things. People are mad about the hyperscalers who want to pollute low income neighborhoods with noise and smog. Traditionally, data centers have used grid power, used far less power, and created far less noise than a "compute center".
It’s insane that a prosecutor can do this and not be sued for those damages.
As long as qualified immunity exists, no citizen is safe from this kind of terrorism.
Re:Data Centers Are Turning Trump Voters into Democrats on Sunday October 18, 2026 @08:15PM (#50146875)
You mean the one that supports genocide or the other one that supports genocide?
Re:Data Centers Are Turning Trump Voters into Democrats on Sunday October 18, 2026 @02:19PM (#50143792)
This is hilarious to me. Democrat messaging re: technology seems to be all about building new power plants (obviously for data centers). Republican messaging re: technology seems to be all about building data centers. They both have the same plan.
Re:The NIST Elliptic Curves Seeds Bounty Has Been Claimed on Sunday October 18, 2026 @02:14PM (#50143748)
I don't see how this demonstrates that. The seed could have been generated at a specific point in time, resulting in a specific value, which may be useful in some way. How is it any different from just defining a seed manually?
Some of it is. But those are often mandatory expenses. A lot of places only offer valet parking, and not tipping makes you look like an asshole.
This is because you dream in REM sleep (stage 4). Cannabis increases the length of stage 3, and decreases the length of stage 4.
Re:How Long Until AI Hacks Everything? on Sunday October 18, 2026 @12:14PM (#50142375)
You can’t get in trouble if you hack a thing that you bought. Just don’t hack someone else’s things.

Why?
Re:Apple may have an iPhone 18 Pro demand problem on Saturday October 10, 2026 @08:36PM (#50038559)
I just want a 4S sized phone made with modern parts. I also miss how the 4S camera looked, all the cameras since that one have produced weird looking images.
*67 just stops the call recipient's phone from displaying caller ID, your phone company still knows what number you dialed
Investment firms are apparently not immune to enshittification
Re:Apple iPhone 18 Pro Camera test on Tuesday September 22, 2026 @01:03AM (#49796980)
It started with the iPhone 5 in my opinion. The 4S has the best iPhone camera in terms of realistic looking photos.

Oops my hard drive is full, I'd better delete a bunch of 5kb .txt files that contain important information
Salami tactics? Is that when you carry a stick of salami in a little black holster on your belt?
You can't even read a single line of the article at this link, its just a full page ad obscured by various popups.
Re:Finder is so frustrating and has been since day one on Monday September 07, 2026 @01:09AM (#49594116)
The only real problem with Finder is that it doesn't show the current path anywhere. If it showed that, then it would be trivial to understand where to find your file later. Of course this is an option, hidden in a menu, so it is never used by the people who need it most.

Re:Get your Windows license refund on Friday August 28, 2026 @03:31PM (#49483194)
Software devs absolutely live in their own little world. Regular people don’t even know what an OS is. All the details of computing have become so abstracted away from the user that they’re completely unaware.
"the assumption that higher efficiency tires are worse gripping" This is fact not assumption. Ironically you are the one who made an assumption here. People who don't understand a topic should not attempt to regulate it based on assumptions.
Ah yes it could have been so easy: All we needed to do was convince everyone in the world to behave a certain way.
Most "user generated content" is no longer user generated, or at least not in the traditional sense. It is mostly advertiser generated these days. There are multiple competing ad agencies that poison the well on sites like this with content that is designed to look like word of mouth, but is actually an ad.
I don’t believe that, there’s probably some missing data. Outside the techno echo chamber that HNers live in, most people use the defaults. I see people using adware browsers that were installed without their knowledge. Computers are just too complex for most people to notice details like what web browser they use.
Synthetic opioids sold at gas stations.
It doesn't make much difference if you perform similar practices in a different country. UK police are just like American police.

Junkies et al can log into chatgpt right now and use it to create a phishing email to steal drug money from your Grandma. Many people saw this coming.
