No GitHub pages so I can play?
Re:What do Visa and Mastercard do? An intro to card networks on Wednesday September 09, 2026 @05:22PM (#49634550)
True on the main chain of Bitcoin. Bitcoin payments on the lightning network are not computationally intense.

The default question in my mind is jettison batteries in case of an emergency?
Author here. I built this once learning about front running the Bitcoin puzzles.
The app is simple (read: dumb). No pooling, because it computes everything offline.

I'm not a printer... What does that mean?
Re:OpenNode – Bitcoin Payment Processor on Thursday July 23, 2026 @07:19AM (#49019782)
I have zero experience with C# and it all lives inside a docker container and just works.

Naturally, I would prefer a non-windows language, but it is literally a black box that works.

Lightning ain't slow though.

TIL DAI cannot be frozen. Perhaps the first stablecoins I might be a little interested in.

The merchant should send the funds (sweep the UTXO) back to you if the funds are flagged. So you should not be out of pocket.

You mean payment processing? BTCPay Server is the defacto standard I would argue.

Have used it for accepting LN transactions for years.

Thanks for the tip!
Would love for Pine64 to thrive.

I don't own any of their products, but I am glad they exist.

Re:Asahi Linux 7.1 Progress Report on Wednesday July 01, 2026 @06:55AM (#48744843)
Will this forever exist as a Fedora "remix". Or will we find the support in upstream so I can one day run Debian-based distro?

I think the last time I used an RPM-based distro was almost 2 decades ago.

It's a personal bias for me.

Perception of quality, because the author is under constant review.

I think nowadays on Android it's called QuickShare, and it works. But I believe the fragmentation and awareness is a part of the problem for Android.
Thanks for sharing the "fixed wireless terminal" tip. A HN post a while ago describe hacking a landline to a wireless terminal. But this tip removes the hacking :)
What's the risk?

Personally, I only see benefits.

I guess competition with the Bitcoin equivalent https://www.l402.org/
Here is my recent history of phones: https://www.gsmarena.com/compare.php3?idPhone1=8972&idPhone2...

The Nokia 6.1 now feels like a monster in my hand at 75mm.

I agree that 70mm is sweet spot.

The Pixel 8 might be my next "upgrade" (sidegrade?)
The small form factor phones simply do not sell. Some great thoughts on the topic:

Currently running a Sony Xperia 5 V which farm factor is acceptable, and still will get a number of months of updates. And the winning point is that the bootloader can be unlocked and is supported by LineageOS.

Good thing about trmnl is you can run the entire backend if the company disappears.
Re:Rice Theory: Why Eastern Cultures Are More Cooperative on Tuesday February 10, 2026 @08:45AM (#46959639)
I made fun of the 'America First' campaign slogan and referred to it as 'America Only'.

Then you can quickly use this idea on people who put themselves in front of others. And the reality is it's not about being first, rather it's only about them, not what comes after them.

Coming from Slack for a number of years, there is an initial shock of missing out of the 'slack way of things'.

The killer feature is everything is a stream/thread. I argue that is a better UX over Slack, but it takes some getting used it.

As mentioned, Slack is way more polished.

It's getting movement in tough political environments like Uganda: https://www.archyde.com/bitchat-surges-to-1-in-uganda-amid-p...

And natural disasters like in Jamaica https://www.gadgets360.com/cryptocurrency/news/bitchat-becom...

You might be referring to Bitchat.
As a fan of webapps, https://yr.no is a good no-frills weather webapp.
I was a big fan, the original version was called forecast.io.

It was a rare example at the time when it was _the_ webapp better than any existing 'native' apps.

Whats the cycle time here? This work flow makes sense to me.
