That’s very narrow-minded. I love hiking and biking and exploring new places, meeting new people. I also appreciate that I can use the highway to get to the destination conveniently. Often so that I can enjoy the very experience I’d miss according to you.
Re:Building an AI-native engineering org on Friday October 30, 2026 @06:48PM (#50311104)
That’s an uncharitable take. They didn’t say anything about optimizing for it, just that it was a signal for them. Maybe one of the signals.

Japan is a good example of train privatization done right:

What is your experience of the incompetence of the ownership class?
Re:Concerning behavior from a popular open-weight AI model on Monday October 26, 2026 @05:41PM (#50251420)
There are daily posts about how bad OpenAI, Anthropic, Google, Meta, Grok are. Especially on HN. Anthropic is even considered security risk by the US. Yet here you are crying foul that Chinese models are mistreated?
Re:GPT-6.1 Terra on Monday October 26, 2026 @04:40PM (#50250611)
What if GPT 6 small is bigger than GPT 5 large?
So you are saying, just like the Internet, there may or may not be a painful AI burst in a few years, then exponential grow in decades to come? What is the time window to fit your narrative?
Re:Vibecoding isn't as fun as writing code by hand on Tuesday October 06, 2026 @12:17PM (#49980654)
Did you not see how downvotes are used here? To show an example from today:

https://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=49977612

It is clearly their opinion, but it was downvoted heavily. Doesn’t help that he is pro AI.

What makes someone a nazi? What specific worldviews? Holocaust sympathy? Aryan supremacy?
Re:OpenAI (2015) on Saturday September 26, 2026 @09:43PM (#49862515)
> Trump’s biggest donor

Is it a good or bad thing? Half of Americans think that’d be the badge of honor.

What if I tell you the DeepSeek’s leadership are communist party’s members? Is that good or bad?

Re:Did OpenAI solve the wrong Navier-Stokes problem? on Tuesday September 22, 2026 @07:45PM (#49809802)
Who is this math community? Since when did they form the consensus that this option is not at all what they care about, before or after they knew about OpenAI’s solution?

What about Tristan Buckmaster and Levent Alpöge, did they also attempt to solve the same challenge? Didn’t they know it wasn’t interesting?

Re:Mistral raises €3B on Tuesday September 08, 2026 @01:25PM (#49613450)
Eh. You’d have to clarify that. Google get started because other search engines at the time sucked. I had a soft spot for Ask Jeeves, but it was clear Google was better.

Advertising is the monetizing strategy from early on. AdWords came to be in 2000. Nothing fuzzy about that.

And we’ll be lazy if we blindly trust your words. Do you have any number to back up your assessments?

Anthropic is reported to have $11.5B in revenue in 2nd quarter, compared to $787 million a year ago, and $4.73B in 1st quarter. In other words, massive jump. The annual run rate is $47B in May, so probably higher now.

In other word, the article is right —- Anthropic is the vendor with the highest revenue.

Mind sharing who at AI labs saying this?

Re:Waymo – Dallas Open to All on Tuesday August 04, 2026 @04:57PM (#49175041)
Statistics is still the most reliable indicator, because you can’t really tell if a situation is “novel”. How novel is novel? I doubt even Waymo knows for sure.

People will trust them by familiarity, not by any objective measures. Their trust grow as they see them more often, without bad accidents.

Re:Europe's fires are just the start on Thursday July 30, 2026 @06:05PM (#49116470)
You know why China became the manufacturing center of the world? Because it was lowest cost, with little regulation and lenient policies including environmental ones. Red carpet, special economic zones. Nobody forced them to.

They have to bear responsibility, and to be fair to them, they have taken steps to address that.

The clear plan for electricians and carpenters is to eh continue to do electrical and wood works. Or do you think they would be out of work if there are no more AI-related jobs?
Many people said in the original discussion that this was more of OpenAI’s marketing than a serious issue. I counted 89 “marketing”s and 19 “stunt”s.

Re:The AI risk is inside the labs on Tuesday July 28, 2026 @10:09PM (#49092655)
Talking like a true ignorant.

Great Leap Forward killed 15 to 55 million people. Their own people.

China actively involved and supported Khmer Rouge, who killed at least a million Khmers. Three million if you believe Vietnam.

Cultural Revolution caused as much as two million deaths.

2000? Did you try to score Internet point? Mao Zedong, who led China during that tumultuous time, is still untouchable in China. 50 years after his death, 26 years after the arbitrary 2000.

Re:Claude Opus 5 on Friday July 24, 2026 @04:52PM (#49041439)
Why don’t you start a movement to fight for equality, and I’ll join you? Why are you still here and not taking actions?

In the mean time, I’ll unashamedly continue to cheer for creativity and innovation. Note: I don’t even like this website design.

In a thread about Europe’s (lack of) competitiveness and you still manage to make fun of the US on something unrelated. You really need to work on your self reflection.
More sophisticated as in paying HF to get involved, and hyping up GLM for something that it may not actually detect?
If that was true China wouldn’t be able to launch as much as they have done
But do you know why mice is often used instead of says, cat?
Re:Introducing Muse Spark 1.1 on Friday July 10, 2026 @08:32AM (#48859005)
Who are "us"? Maybe you can set up a simonw-free forum and bring your like minded over there?
Why not? The author have their own reasons to do it. Did they ask you to use it instead of the official build? It's a github repo.

Why does there need to be a business case? They aren't selling it.

Re:Grok 4.5 on Thursday July 09, 2026 @09:52AM (#48845850)
Yes, if that’s your belief. Do you practice what you preach? Do you use oil-based products? Do you transit via Dubai or Istanbul?

The issue with Musk related politics here is pretending higher moral positions. Even though I’m against China’s policies, I have absolutely no issues with Chinese products. Their achievements are phenomenal (look at that Europe and India). I’m against hypocrisy.

Again, do you practice what you preach?

Re:Resetting Xbox on Tuesday July 07, 2026 @09:57AM (#48817950)
One of those terrible decisions was probably hiring too many developers, how do you suggest they fix that issue, besides changing leadership?

Many of those developers may not have the job elsewhere, or job paying much less. They now have the experience working in a proper software engineering environment.
