I don’t know if it’s a possibility but I am curious if there can be some artificial solution to this?

Could the need to solve this be the first step in developing terra forming technologies?

> The wondrous ruins of Hampi are just a train ride away. Then there's the UNESCO protected majestic western ghats few hours away, and not to mention the pristing beaches of Malpe and Udupi

I agree, there are certainly amazing places to sight-see but I am largely referring to activities like rock climbing gyms (https://www.youtube.com/c/magmidt88), archery, horse riding, accessible national parks and a more extensive board games culture (surprisingly Hyderabad has 2 active clubs)

The Indian society would cast you as an extremely privileged person if you were to bring this up and rightly so, since most people here are trying to live a life first.

I understand that it may not be what everyone wants and this is personal to what I prefer. I would like to be in a place with a better infrastructure (trains), schools and with access to more recreational activities.

That's correct. I live in Bangalore, India and there are a lot more issues than just quality of life.

1. Since, I am from North India, Bangalore treats us like foreigners i.e. if you don't speak the native language, you will be at a significant disadvantage when requiring the assistance of police.

2. Rather, the police has been known to discriminate against `outsiders`. You can even head over to r/bangalore to know more.

3. The income inequality is real and through the roof. We tech people make much much more than any other private profession and this has made the general population unhappy.

4. Lastly, there isn't much to do besides going out to pubs/cafes.

Which is why I've been leetcoding and preparing to emigrate to Canada/UK. While it's true that I can save a lot more money here (in real terms! At PPP, my monthly savings allows me live for several months without an income) but at what cost.

Re:Apple Mac Studio on Tuesday March 08, 2022 @02:47PM (#30605632)
Apple claims M1 Ultra is faster than 28 Core Intel Xeon W chip, which they ship in Mac Pro. If that's true, then Mac Studio is an excellent value.

Mac Pro with 28 Core, 96GB RAM, 1TB SSD = $14,199

Mac Studio with M1 Ultra (48GPU Cores), 128GB RAM, 1TB SSD = $4,800

Also it looks like they compared their CPU performance with the latest intel generation in their demo.

It's kinda scary how monster of a company Apple has become lately. Their product line-up in compute is now unmatched.

Re:Facebook Pay on Sunday February 13, 2022 @03:33AM (#30320257)
Interestingly India is not on the list. While one can use UPI to make payments via WA, their market share is less than a percentage.

Having said that,I hope this takes off. All of my friends prefer Instagram as our primary messaging app since it takes a username and not a phone number to text someone. It would be helpful, if we could makes payments there.

Re:Show HN: What do you think of my new social app? on Wednesday February 02, 2022 @06:53AM (#30176360)
Doesn't it seem like too much of a work? Just as you were using Hacker News, most people I know use a social network, passively. That is, there are only a few people who post regularly while others just react to it.

Also I think WA / Telegram groups basically replaced what Path / Google+ / FB Lists set out to do. It's just more convenient.

Right now Instagram does all of what I would want from a "public" social network while I have whatsapp groups for close friends.

Re:Alder Lake Core i9 processor is faster than the M1 Max on Thursday January 27, 2022 @02:08AM (#30097196)
There is no Intel 14core laptop with <45w power budget at the frequencies this benchmark was performed.

i9-12900HK consumes 115W of Turbo Power (PL2) [1]

At 45W it can only do 2.5Ghz ( literally half ) on P cores and 1.8Ghz on E cores.

It would be really interesting to see how this processor works with TB disabled which is really easy thing to do.

SteamDeck hasn't been released yet and it's coming to a limited number of countries, first. With the supply constraints, it's likely that it would take two or more years for SteamOS to have any noticeable market share. And, that is if SteamDeck is a success.

Re:Leetcode has taught me that I'm a bad engineer on Wednesday January 05, 2022 @04:02AM (#29806755)
I am genuinely curious as to what makes leetcode harder than MSc? I am not sure if the hate received towards LC style interviews is justified. It levels the playing field and most companies ( except MAMAA ) picks a question from Blind 75 anyways.

On a personal note, I do believe LC has made me a better programmer. In my 3rd year of BTech, I was given a task to figure out splitwise (a bill splitting app) algorithm. I was quite proud to have written a modified version of Kruskal's which solved the problem. Last year, I saw the same problem on LC and it had a much cleaner and nicer solution to it. The solution opened up ways for me to think in different terms all together.

Similarly when I was in my 1st year, we used to play `Chain Reaction` a lot and I wanted to write a brute force A.I. for it. I had not been introduced to graphs, DFS or BFS algorithms. Hence, I had basically produced a recursion hell but working solution. Later when I had discovered DFS/BFS, I was ecstatic to say the least.

Thus, I believe LC helps/prepares/arms you with various techniques which you could leverage to solve certain problems in a more efficient (and also as a result, cleaner code) fashion.

Do you mean Facebook Zero[1] / Internet.org[2]. I had completely forgotten about it after TRAI (Telecom Regulatory Authority of India ) had banned it 2015/2016. It's interesting to know, that the project is still alive.

Re:Google Drive may restrict files identified as violating ToS on Thursday December 23, 2021 @01:48AM (#29659346)
I've again started using a usb-c thumb drive in place of google drive. It's extremely convenient and safe from big brother eyes.
Isn't that too subjective? Do they also have to go through 5 rounds of interviews and are they all about scenarios?
