These suites are also majorly sticky. Would you, as a business, want to completely ditch your ability to open any document you ever created?
Personally, I don't have a project that requires it right now, but aspirationally maybe! I agree with another commenter that mentioned this is basically a public service that should exist similar to Wikidata / Musicbrainz.
I know this is currently a paid service you're trying to make happen and the scraping part is a reasonable amount of effort, but if you wanted to make the data source public, you could publish community.lexicon.calendar.event ATProto records and it would be very cool. At the very least, you could ingest it as a data source!
This is pretty cool, does it scrape Instagram? A lot of events where I live (Toronto) are posted there and not many other places. It's a real problem if you don't want to spend time on that app.
I walked away with _mostly_ the opposite impression. They have a specific tone of voice! I think that's good.
I've yet to see any company match the copy writing skills of Valve though.
Very cool! Did you consider Protomaps for the map tile format at all? It's a pretty clever way of storing everything in a single file and their tooling is pretty nice.
What are you talking about, this IS a nice thing!
Firefox's extension support is far superior to Safari's, cross-platform support, and I really don't want to use Edge for the same reasons I don't want to use Chrome.
That's really encouraging news, the per-commit versioning has been tricky to follow. Happy to see it!
If you're like me and also wondered "huh, what's tinygrad up to?" apparently they now let you place $100,000 USD pre-orders on a $10M shipping container full of GPUs which they say will ship (literally it seems) in 2027.
As somebody who is also terrible at remembering names, I also used to think this but ever since I saw this idea taken to its logical extreme by some students a few years ago I've become significantly more resistant to it:

For anyone reading the thread, they did do this! Had a nice call with James too, which I appreciate.
It looks like the situation is actually more complex and interesting than "The registry rug-pulled me". My .sexy domain price was increased by the owners of .sexy (to $3000) since I bought it 6 years ago BUT in Hover's system it was supposed to retain the legacy price of $38 as it had for the past few years. Something went wrong between Hover and the registry where the legacy price wasn't honoured and as such, it bumped to $3000 on renewal. Apparently support really flubbed this one and we both agreed that going the "post on HN" route for customer service isn't exactly a win on their part.
The money has been refunded and I've been assured they're looking into the bug. Will probably do a follow up blog post!
Heh yeah, I've recently had another site succumb to the same thing (that domain wasn't managed by me). I've long accepted that domains are kind of a racket, but haven't actually been on the losing end of the money until now!
Yeah, I already transferred everything else to Cloudflare in advance of this so that part should be taken care of.
The domain renewal cost in their dashboard is notably right back to $38 too!
Arguably yeah! The issue I have seems to mostly be with Uniregistry (aside from the fact that Hover takes a cut of the transaction).
...But I'm also not a Uniregistry customer, I'm a Hover customer. Do I have any recourse with the TLD owner?

I registered the domain onlyfans.sexy ~6 years ago as a gag where I'd post pictures of fans (everything on the site and in this post is SFW). This year I got an email stating that, like all prior years, the domain would auto-renew at $38 in seven days and didn't think anything of the next two emails also notifying me that the domain would auto-renew.It would seem that I very much SHOULD have...
8 Nvidia B200s. Crazy from an individual perspective, costly for a small business!
Pretty cool! I've also been playing around with GLM 5.2 this week and was equally impressed. At work we're running it locally on some crazy expensive hardware as a test before starting another project so it's great to see people taking this massive FOSS model release and running it on an average machine, even if it's not terribly practical at this point.
Nice work!
I prefer CoMaps' tile styling, they did a bunch of updates to it early on to differentiate it from OrganicMaps, IMO it's much nicer.
CoMaps also has a better system for distributing map data now which isn't bound to app updates. Not sure if this has made its way back to the other app, but it's quite nice.
I've been using GLM 5.2 a lot this past week, it's been replacing Opus 4.8. I mostly do front-end web development and haven't noticed much of a quality difference.
Sure, "it's just frontend", but that's actual use enough for me to take it seriously.
Yes, CoMaps lets users submit basic data that updates OSM for addresses and POIs. It's a harder problem than you may initially think too, quite often the delivery format of OSM data differs in schema from the DB format. In the case of OrganicMaps and CoMaps, they both generate offline-optimized map formats for distribution.
Navidrome is so sick! I've been a full album listener for years, but switching to it was a great excuse to make sure my music library was FLAC only and tagged with good MusicBrainz metadata. If you're a self-hosting / NAS person already and you have a music library of digital files it's a no brainer.
Brand guidelines and web design pretty much don't exist any more as far as I can tell. Gotta get it out yesteday, and the only way to do that is vibe coding, styling be damned.
tangled.org writes issues as atproto data that lives in a user's PDS which is one neat idea.
There's absolutely no precident for Blender Foundation sponsorships leading to such things... So no, they probably won't do that.
It compiles almost instantly which makes this visual design by Claude instruction viable. That alone is pretty neat.
It can't render all your math in exactly the same way. If you need it to do that, it may not be for you.
Noticed that Jellyfin had inched out Plex when sorting by popularity on the TrueNAS app catalogue the other day (45,178 installs vs Plex's 42,225). The existance of this project seems to confirm that the dev ecosystem around it is getting stronger!
"Why should I change? He's the one who sucks!"
