Re:Beautiful Windows 8 concept on Wednesday July 04, 2012 @04:59AM (#4198462)
It really is beautiful. If I didnt know it was going to annoy me to no end like all windows apps do, I would try it. Very good effort.
Re:MVC is dead, it's time to MOVE on on Monday July 02, 2012 @09:47PM (#4192064)
Sorry, composable operations and models firing events is bullshit. The article is somewhat correct in that true MVC is dead in practice, however, service oriented architectures have already filled this void.

Eventing is HORRIBLE. Regardless of the source, but models especially are not the place to be firing events.

This was all tried years ago. Before writing an article purporting to replace a foundational concept in application development maybe do a little more research into what the actual practical solutions to these factoring problems are.

How about a front end to MongoDB?
Re:Both true and false: a Zen moment with C on Thursday June 28, 2012 @04:50AM (#4170818)
Thats what Java programmers say.

Dont code C if you dont know what you are doing.

I would call it a "volatile read". Maybe it changes the state maybe it doesnt. Especially since we dont know yet why exactly this occurs.
Its typicaly considered the worst of all side effects of a programming language. Ive heard it referred to only as a side effect. But there is the issue of representation in quantum physics which is real, observation does change the state.

Good question but programming languages avoid this, you would have to coin your own.

Re:Attention HTML5 mobile devs. It doesnt work on Thursday June 28, 2012 @01:47AM (#4170487)
Seems to be doing a good job, is not really a technical statement. Lot of things that fail seem to be doing a good job.

Im sure Zuck had a meeting yesterday about his mobile HTML5 team and said "You seem to be doing a good job".

Re:ZeroMQ - Disconnects are Good for You on Tuesday June 26, 2012 @07:25AM (#4161243)
The TCP stack takes care of this problem this is an insane attempt at POST mature optimization.
Re:"X-" deprecated for HTTP headers on Tuesday June 26, 2012 @05:54AM (#4161001)
I dont know if this will get approved but forcing us all to integrate headers into HTTP standards is not going to work. Thats why X headers exist.

We need ways to move forward or e ven sideways if thats what we choose using an extension mechanism that is simple.

Re:Retina Images in Webkit on Tuesday June 26, 2012 @05:48AM (#4160989)
I really dont like this notion of developers catering to Apple's capricious DPI choices which will be device dependent.

I love Apple products, but I dont see anyone getting on this bandwagon in a serious way unless there is an industry standard. You dont just force producers to provide modified images because you release one new device or even 3.

This is a total Antipattern that Apple in the end will regret.

I wasnt aware that anyone liked GO
Winamp was always a piece of crap.
Re:Java 8 Lambdas on Sunday June 24, 2012 @11:34PM (#4154965)
Hopefully no one with any sense will use these features.
Re:OSX apps that keep you hooked to your Mac? on Monday June 18, 2012 @01:48AM (#4125176)
OSX itself keeps me hooked to my Mac. I can find anything I need for this platform. The whole is greater than the sum of its parts.

Re:Google buys Meebo on Tuesday June 05, 2012 @05:00AM (#4067963)
If they are like a company I used to work for Meebo probably has a patent that reads as follows:

System and message for sending a message using a computer system

Re:San Francisco Tech Boom Brings Concerns on Tuesday June 05, 2012 @04:05AM (#4067843)
This is the New York Times which on a near daily basis features articles with titles like "What you can get for 2 million dollars" (a nice closet in a bad neighborhood) as if thats a bargain.

Expecting sanity in either the SF or NYC market is a waste of emotion. If you can't afford it (and you can't) dont live there. Your a programmer not a rock star.

Re:Is C++ Not Suitable For OOP? on Tuesday June 05, 2012 @12:45AM (#4067357)
Yes, it most certainly is. But what C++ will ask of you is probably more than all but he most disciplined engineer has to spend on an implementation.

It takes knowledge and maybe even wisdom across a development team to build a sane, stable C++ application or system of any size.

If you think you have a team of A players then go for it, even they will bicker and fuss over the implementation trivia that consume their cycles as they try and build a solution.

But for some things, C++ is probably the best choice. Just know what those things are before you take the plunge.

C++ is not a general purpose OOP language to be considered equally with even a language like Java. If you dont have the discipline to rock C++ dont even try it, it will kill you.
