Thanks for the feedback. Education is for sure an underserved market. One of the reason is the high barrier to entry. It's a completely different ballgame when you're selling to schools rather than small businesses.
Having a bundled lesson plan, multimedia attachments, and links to resources is definitely something we want to look into. Our goal is to have the teacher eventually teach from his or her Planboard. We're still far away from the digital classroom but we believe the next big change will happen in education.

First off, congratulations on the launch!
Check out Mike McDerment's talk on metrics: http://vimeo.com/10733370
Shortly after launch of our own app, we created a marketing table in our database. One metric we implemented immediately is to find out where users are coming from. Later on, as an example, you can join that with your user table and know where the paid users initially came from.
We also tracked how many times user logs in per day. From that, we started tracking many of the actions within our app. Now, using another table, we log almost all of the user's actions to get a better idea of how the user is flowing through the application. At the end of the day, track what you think will be useful to you and don't be afraid to track more than necessary.
Unfortunately the US Mint has discontinued purchases with credit card since July 22, 2011.
Use a read later service like Instapaper. You wouldn't want to be reading HN all day because that would just be counter productive. At some point, you have to ignore what's going on and get back to work.
+1 indochino.com. I'm another happy customer.
Really dig the design on Kandan but I wish it could be used as a front for XMPP/Jabber also.
I'm surprised no one mentioned
http://tripit.com. I do find that they need improve adding activities but I use it for every trip I go on.
Second Backbone. I use Underscore + Backbone + jQuery and it works really well.
I asked them on their live chat, and apparently at this time, they have no timeline but they're saying Canada is top on their list for expansion.

Liquid Web or Storm on Demand (Liquid Web's cloud solution)
Sweet! I'm living there next semester.
University of Waterloo (CS Major)!
Check out Forrst or Dribbble
Check out the folks at Storm on Demand and Liquid Web. They fit your budget range and provide fully managed hosting. I've very happy with them.
I had a terrible experience years back (no longer with them now). If it works, it works well, but when it's down, it goes down for almost 24 hours!
While you struggle with design, I struggle with code since I'm more of a designer. It's even worse because all I can do is stare at a static HTML version and imagine the functionality of my app!

I've been reading up a lot on A/B testing lately on HN. Since sequential A/B testing is not recommended due to external factors, I'm just curious as to how someone is suppose to split web traffic (say 50/50 without using hardware to balance).
Harvest is great. We use them to track our time as well as to bill our clients. However, I think OP is asking more accounting rather than tracking/invoicing clients apps.
But isn't a focused private beta better than just a public launch?

For those of you that launched a web app, how long did it spend in private beta before official launch? It seems that the general consensus is to just put the product out there to test and iterate. What's your take?
Go through sortfolio or websites like that and pick out a style you like. Many agencies stick with one style. One of the examples is Metalab. I'm sure you all know their style. We do more of a modern minimalistic style at

Any Chinese "friends"?
New guy here, my English is not very good, anybody here speak Chinese?
Been with LiquidWeb for over a year now and their support team is excellent. Just started on their new service, Storm On Demand, but can't really give an opinion yet.
