Re:Help Me HN: I am getting overwhelmed on Tuesday February 24, 2015 @12:40PM (#9102163)
That's a solid position to be in. I can understand it can become overwhelming. I don't think dropping school is a very good option, unless you think you've learned as much as you can. I'd love to figure out how to help out. Contact me (email is in my profile) and maybe I can help in some way.
Re:[ASK HN] When is it OK as an employee to refuse an acqui-hire? on Thursday February 05, 2015 @12:27PM (#9004500)
You aren't everyone else. You are you. Do what is best for you.

I would also explore if there is a way to make the deal a better option for you. Negotiate. If you've explored that, and it's still not, then walk away.

Try 20 years since 95.

Re:Bang with friends is on sale for 550,000$ on Sunday March 24, 2013 @05:53PM (#5433880)
Uh, no. A clone of Bang With Friends is on sale.

The URL to this one is bangfriends.net, the real URL is bangwithfriends.com.

I too believed I would be signing up for a service that was already launched and thought twice when I realized I was being deceived.
Re:Bing vs. Google on Thursday September 06, 2012 @11:23AM (#4484501)
Same here.
Awesome idea and execution!

The only problem I have is that I may want to open more than one, and you seem to be limiting it.

Say, for example, I have a phone that is on there and see a new phone I want. I may want to compare size without needing to hold up my phone to the screen.

I believe you mean "phreaking" boxes.
I just use LiveReload for this.
Re:Hack your way through Stripe's Capture the Flag on Wednesday February 22, 2012 @10:02PM (#3623600)
Is part of the challenge dealing with the server timeouts?

In all seriousness, thanks for this!

Re:Ask HN: Do startups hire 50+ year old programmers?(US) on Saturday January 07, 2012 @01:00PM (#3437563)
When I've hired people, while working as an engineering lead at a startup, It's never been about age, it's been about skills + personality. Out of a development team of around 10 people, I'd say 2 were >= 50 years old, a few 30 somethings and the rest around 20-25.
Re:Anyone knows what's up with Bitbucket? on Thursday January 05, 2012 @11:35AM (#3429294)
According to their twitter account, they are were narrowing it down to an issue with NFS: https://twitter.com/#!/bitbucket

They also mention they will have a blog post detailing the outage.

Had similar experiences with DreamHost, the server load avg was 13!!! nearly all the time. For 20$/mo, I got a linode and have never looked back.
Re:Gun.io Debuts Free Group Funding for Open Source Projects on Tuesday December 13, 2011 @01:02PM (#3348461)
The Gun.io creator posted several bounties previously, which are still up. Including several which are fixed or have fixes in his GitHub pull requests (for LightWrite).

They haven't been closed so I assume the bounties haven't been paid. I get bad feelings about this.

Re:Firebug is a memory hog? Prove it (Please) on Friday December 09, 2011 @01:04PM (#3334746)
The way it's worded, I believe the stocking stuffer is the "reap the benefits" that "You and Millions" will get.
Re:Ask HN: Are ergonomic keyboards really useful? on Tuesday November 22, 2011 @08:18AM (#3265390)
I used to love my Microsoft Natural Ergo 4000 keyboard. I did find that the pressure (PSI to press a key) goes up quite a lot after owning one for a few months, which can cause finger pain if you are coding for long hours.

After having MS Ergo keyboards for about 7 years, I finally switched to a Kinesis model (http://www.kinesis-ergo.com/advantage_pro.htm), and although more expensive, the pressure has stayed consistent for the 1+ years of owning it.

Because they needed $40B.

Re:Ask HN: Best book you read in 2010 and briefly why on Monday December 06, 2010 @02:20AM (#1974338)
Snow crash was great as well.

Also the "Daemon" series by Daniel Suarez is great along the same lines as snow crash.

Re:Fred Wilson's vision of a family CRM service on Sunday August 15, 2010 @05:26AM (#1604850)
Wow!

I started building this about a week and a half ago after watching my wife and my mother-in-law tediously exchanging contacts across the country. And then spending hours filling out thank you cards for gifts on the recent birth of our daughter.

I'm still in development of it, but should be in beta in a week or two.

I'd love if all the interested people would sign up to get early access: http://kindrd.com/?hn=1

If you leave the hn=1 in the query string, I will be able to discern the HN'ers.

Re:Is the SSD worth the extra $$ on a new MacBook Pro? on Monday July 19, 2010 @03:48PM (#1529880)
I would say upgrading my MBP to a solid-state drive has made the biggest positive impact on my performance, battery-life and startup time. Perhaps the best single computer upgrade I've ever done.
